Fiera was just walking Victor. A normal day, a normal walk. He was being surprisingly cooperative, which was unusual for him. She guessed that maybe he wasn’t as cooped up in the kennels as she thought, though she was hardly complaining. The more time she got to spend with her pets, the merrier as far as she was concerned. Her coming by the quest board was more coincidence than anything else, as she hadn’t been planning on actually looking at it this month… but things in life rarely turn out like you expect. Victor seemed to notice that something was off first, as he lifted his head and pricked his ears. He pulled on the leash harder than usual, straining to bring his owner over to it. “Oh, for- what is it Victor? Come on, go easy on me.” Fiera stammered, staggering down the sidewalk as her pet dragged her along. Fiera 1 Victor 29.1/31.1 1

As they got closer to the quest board, Fiera could see a woman standing there awkwardly next to it, looking around, harried. She looked… familiar, as far as Fiera could tell. That didn’t amount to much, though. Fiera knew a lot of people after all, being a local politician and whatnot. Still, something inside Fiera began radiating dread as she approached. Victor’s nails clacking on the sidewalk finally alerted the woman to Fiera’s presence as she looked up. “Oh! You, you there!” I remember you!” She said, exclaiming loudly. Before Fiera could even squeak out a response, she rushed over to the humanish and gripped her by the arms. “You’ve got to help me! That damnable nyssa is back! It’s ruining my garden again, my poor bonsais!” Oh, heck. It was THIS woman. Now Fiera remembered her, that was for sure. She tried not to let her distaste show however.

She could remember it like it was yesterday, when she first met the woman. She begged Fiera to take a look at her garden and help her plants, and to scare away a nyssa that had been trampling all over them. It was one hell of a task to complete, considering that the nyssa was many times larger than Fiera, and she swore that she would never take a job from this woman again. Unfortunately for her however, it didn’t look like the woman was giving her a choice. “You remember where my garden is, right? Just head right there, I’m sure that beast will be around. Thank you so much dear, I’ll be sure to give you a prize worth your while!” Then, before Fiera could get a single word in edgewise, she turned around and left. “Thank you again dear! Let me know when the job is done!”

She said it cheerily, without a single note of her former despair audible in it. Fiera was left stammering in the middle of the sidewalk, before letting out a string of expletives. Victor merely cleaned his pelt some. “Come on! This was supposed to be an easy day!” She yowled, but the universe didn’t seem to care, as it didn’t deliver any sort of solution to her. Fiera DID enjoy getting paid, but… well. She sighed. At least this would be a good opportunity to get some fighting practice in with Victor. She had recently taught him some battle moves, and was eager to see how he’d use them in a real fight. At the very least, he could burn off some energy, even if they didn’t end up beating the nyssa in the end. Fiera took a very long, deep breath in, and then let it out again. Fine then.

“You win, old lady!” She said to no one in particular. “I’ll do it!” Then she turned heel and went the other way, leading Victor toward the gardens. She knew the way to them well, having been there plenty of times herself to maintain her own little patch of land. Victor didn’t know the way quite as well however, and spent a lot of time sniffing all of the new scents that each plot had to offer. “Yes, yes, it’s all very fancy.” Fiera grumbled, tugging him along. She understood his love of novelty, but honestly, she just wanted to get in, whack the nyssa until it left again, and leave once more. “Seriously dude, come on.” She said, giving Victor’s leash a particularly strong yank to get him out of a flowery bush he had half lodged himself in. “You can sniff the nyssa all you want once we actually find it.”

Soon they had passed the plot that held Fiera’s own garden. She looked at it longingly as they passed, wishing more than anything that she was pleasantly gardening, weeding and planting, as opposed to doing someone else’s gardening for them. Really, how bad did someone’s pest problems have to be before they lured an entire NYSSA into their garden? It had looked quite neat when she was there last time, but Fiera had the feeling that the garden wasn’t nearly as clean as that woman made it out to be. Really, what other options were there? She strode forward in the direction that she was PRETTY sure the woman’s garden plot was. She didn’t exactly get a chance to double check the directions before she was sent off on her quest. But hey, how hard could it be to find a crystal and bonsai garden out here? It wasn’t like she was surrounded with lush greenery or anything.

The garden slowly came into view as you walk with your Rakai-Sarane. What a pretty little garden!

Fiera finally managed to relax a bit as she and Victor walked, now that they weren’t being harassed by the elderly. It gave her time to plan their approach. So far though, her plan only consisted of “Find the garden. Look for nyssa. Give it a whooping it wouldn’t forget.” Which wasn’t, granted, especially helpful. She didn’t have time to plan it any further than that though, as a glimmer of light slanted into the corner of her eye. Fiera stopped and blinked for a moment before turning to her left. Sure enough, she saw a crystal, large and imposing, next to an archway covered in ivy. She clicked her tongue at Victor and began leading him toward it. This was the place, apparently. Now that she was here though, her memories of it started coming back to her. This quest hadn't been too hard last time.

And yet... the nyssa could have only gotten bigger since last time. And she didn't think just shouting at it would work this time- after all, there had been a lot of people shouting at it in the past. You just had to get used to the noise after a certain point, right? Fiera walked through the archway, blinking lazily as dappled light filtered over her and Victor's head. "Let's see what the damage is, eh Vic?" She said. The rakai merely snorted in response. At the end of the tunnel of ivy, the humanish and her companion stepped out into the light and... well, the old woman certainly wasn't joking around. This place was well and truly trashed. "Looks like that nyssa threw one heck of a part here." Fiera said, taking in the sight. Victor immediately got to sniffing around, ignoring Fiera's idle musing. It was as if he was the only one that remembered they were trying to solve a mystery of sorts here.

The last time Fiera was here, there was only a giant crystal missing. Sure the fancy sand garden had gotten a bit messed up and yes, there was a piece stolen, but for the most part the garden was intact and Fiera could tell what it was supposed to be. It was one of those (in Fiera's opinion) boring zen gardens, with bonsai on 'natural' looking crystal pedestals, surrounded by carefully brushed sand. Crystals jutted out at various angles, including the massive gem that made up the centerpiece of the garden. Rows of hedges surrounded the area, with tunnels leading off to other sand gardens that the old woman had made. Were it not for the hedges and the bonsai, Fiera would mistake this place for a miniature desert as opposed to a garden. Not to mention despite there being little stone paths, it was nearly impossible to not mess up the sand.

That was not a problem she'd have now though. This place was, in a word, trashed. There wasn't a single hint of the careful furrows dug in the sand now, and in fact most of the sand looked like it had been kicked out of the garden, leaving massive gouge-like... footprints? Fiera admitted that she couldn't tell if they were footprints or the thrashing of a massive beast. If they were though... then she had to admit that she had bitten off more than she could chew. The hedges were full of holes with large chunks taken out of the top of them, as if something had just pushed right through effortlessly, snapping branches on the way. Some of the bonzais were safely nestled up in alcoves- likely the ones that the old woman had managed to save- but not all of them had such good luck. Fiera passed them by.

The rest of the bonzais, well. Fiera figured there wasn't a trim in the world that could fix them, she noted as she kicked the shards of a pot down the path a bit. They were practically obliterated, just messes of tiny branches and dirt. The pathway almost wasn't either, with only one or two stones present to indicate where it once was. Half of the crystals were knocked over, and about a quarter of them were cracked or outright shattered. Honestly, if it was up to Fiera, she would just scrap this garden and start over. And yet, that wasn't what she had been hired to do today. No, instead it was her job to find the creature that did this and... get rid of it, somehow. Yeah, Fiera wished she could just tell the nyssa that it could have this darn garden, but that just wasn't in the cards today.

So, that just left the 'investigation' to get to. For such large creatures, Fiera knew that nyssa were pretty quiet and blended in with their surroundings well, so it would be harder to find than one would think. With that in mind, Fiera dropped Victor's leash. If anything would find it, it would be her rakai sarane. He was pretty loud once he found something interesting too, so it should work out in her favor. From there, Fiera re-examined the environment, looking for clues and trying to put together the order of operations that happened here. A hedge near the entrance had been nearly demolished, with the branches bent inward. Fiera supposed that that was the nyssa's entry point. From there, the gashes in the ground and the trail of destruction circled around the area, with a lot of the damage just seeming to be accidental due to the size of the beast.

After that, it looked like the creature took off down one of the hedge tunnels. Before that though... Fiera poked around the area, looking for anything of value. Some part of her was outraged, but really. How would the old woman know if anything was taken? Fiera could just blame it on the nyssa destroying or stealing it, and she'd be off scott free. That being said though, there really wasn't much of anything left undestroyed. No stone left unobliterated, as it stood. Some of the crystals were still intact, but all of the ones that were were far too big for Fiera to just pick up and take with her. She huffed- how dare this quest not have something to it that she could convert directly into monetary value! She'd have to have a firm talk with... well, probably herself over a bottle of tequila and in front of a soap opera.

From the trail of destruction all over the garden path though, it looked like one of the tunnels was less demolished than the other. Fiera had to guess that that was the one that the nyssa had pushed itself through, leading to the next area of the garden. If she was going to get this thing to leave, she was going to have to find it first. So that was the tunnel she was going down then. "Victor, come here!" She said, looking around for her rakai sarane. She found him in one of the possible footprints in the ground, sniffing heavily. That was a good thing, as far as Fiera was concerned- the better a bead he had on the nyssa's scent, the better. If anything would help her find this thing, it would be the bright blue pet with a powerful nose. It took some tugging on the leash, but she finally got Victor to come away from the footprint.
