This was... certainly unusual. Silver had made a habit of checking the quest board now and then to see what was available. It was a nice break from their usual adventures, and they enjoyed trying new things. The weird little trinkets they received in return was just a bonus, really. This time around, though, they were nearly assaulted by some woman who seemed desperate for someone to take her quest. Silver did want to help her since she seemed to really need it, but the erratic way she acted made them more nervous than usual. Last year? Did she mistake them for someone else? That didn't seem likely. They definitely didn't know of anyone that looked even a little bit like them. Maybe they had helped her before, and they didn’t remember it; or maybe she was famous and they missed the news. Either way, they were determined to help her out since she really seemed like she needed it. They had already agreed to help and walked away before they realized they had no idea what they were going to do about this one. A rogue creature was running around a garden, and they were meant to drive it off. They had conflicted feelings about what they would do once they got there. Could they tame the creature? They would certainly try, though they had a nagging sense of doubt in their ability to actually do it. It was one of those times in which they really felt like they shouldn’t go it alone. On their way to the gardens, they stopped by home and dropped some things off, namely Quintessence. They asked Gen to watch over him while they were gone and cast a spell which allowed their auras to separate for a while. They just couldn’t risk him being hurt and Gen was the only one they trusted to watch him. With Gen busy, they would have to choose another companion for the trip itself. Hopefully someone that was tough or scary enough to chase off a huge Nyssa. How big were Nyssa, anyway? Silver was fairly familiar with Cher, but she was small. The faint glow of a purple flame caught their eye. ‘Perfect,’ they thought. [108.05, 7.2] [Silver casts Sever Bond.]

“Hey there,” Silver said, slowly approaching Bytor. They had raised him from a kitten and were an expert in training Estharne, but they were still slow and deliberate with their actions. Estharnes were not known as gentle creatures, which was exactly why he was chosen for this task in the first place. Bytor did not object to Silver’s approach, so they rubbed his head and heard him let out a faint purr. They smiled softly, a little relieved that he was willing to play along. “Good to see you buddy,” they moved from rubbing his head to scratching his chin. Bytor flexed his claws in and out as a sign that he enjoyed the attention. “I need you to come with me on an adventure, okay? I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise.” There wasn’t much in the world that Bytor was afraid of, except maybe getting a bath. Nonetheless, Silver felt the need to protect him and ensure his safety above all. They’d never forgive themselves if they let anything bad happen to him while they were out. [108.1, 7.4]

"We're going to the gardens," Silver explained as they walked along according to the instructions they had been given on the quest slip. It took a little longer than usual to get there with Bytor's rather lax version of following along, but Silver didn't seem to mind. Every time they looked down at the quest slip, the frowned slightly, then looked back at Bytor for reassurance. Surely nothing bad would happen to them with their magic and Bytor's (literal) firepower, right? No matter what they wanted to believe, they found themselves unsure.
"I think this is it," they said. They let themselves into the gate and immediately started looking around. There wasn't anything of note within sight, but the trees were fairly thick and obscured most of the garden. Silver let out a sigh. They had almost thought that they'd see action as soon as they stepped into the gate. They weren't sure whether or not they relieved to find themselves wrong.
Bytor sniffed the air and flicked his long ears. He waved his fiery tail, low and slow, as a sign of warning to anything that dared to approach. While Silver hadn't seen anything of note, he seemed to be aggravated about something. They could only wonder whether or not it was the thing they were looking for or some other unknown entity.

"What is it?" Silver asked quietly. They tilted their head and twitched their ears, hoping that their own senses could pick something up as well. Nothing. They watched Bytor carefully to see if anything changed. As much as they wanted to protect him, they also wanted to be ready to stop him in case he pounced on some poor unsuspecting soul. For all they knew, this place was full of people who were all looking for the same thing and Bytor was about to murder one of them.
Bytor snorted into the grass and started to wander deeper into the trees. Silver shrugged and followed along. They had expected to take the lead, but they weren't about to stop him if he had an idea. His fierce orange eyes glowed brightly, even in the shade. He was certainly hard to lose against the greens and browns of the plant life. Silver's heart started to race when they heard the unmistakable sound of Bytor's growl. He began to lash his tail and settle his body low in the underbrush.

"No... wait!" Silver called out, a second too late. By the time they spoke, Bytor was already in the air with his massive claws out. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as they watched his grey and purple fur fly through the air. He made contact with something solid and slid to the ground. Was that a tree?
Silver couldn't tell what was happening. They were trying too hard to calm themselves down before something really bad happened. Something more bad than what had already happened. They shook their head and put their palms on their ears. What to do? What to do!?
Bytor landed on his paws and gave the cat version of a frown. He was so certain that he had something, but his claws just bounced off. He looked down at his paws and breathed out a puff of flames in anger. This was stupid. He might as well burn it all down. That would show them for deflecting his attack so effectively.
