The ghaenelt didn't seem to understand what was being asked of him, so Sevyrn repeated the command a second time and then a third before she opened her palm - at that point Fier realized that there was a treat awaiting him and ran as best as his little legs could move him towards his girl. "Good job little guy," Sevyrn said to him as she crouched down to offer the ghaenelt his snack reward. He didn't even wait for it to hit the ground, just gobbled it up straight from the palm of her hand. It seemed that she had been graced with another treat-motivated creature to care for, which would make training him much easier than it could have otherwise been.
After letting him get his excitement and go back to his own business, it was time for Sevyrn to try again. "Fier!" She called, grabbing his attention. "Come here."

He didn't get it, but that was okay. Sevyrn repeated the command and only once he didn't seem to make the connection a second time did she reach in to her pocket to pull out of one the treats. Yeah, that did the trick - the ghaenelt came back over to her with a wagging little tail and a smile on both faces. What an excited little egg he made.
After that Sevyrn was fine with repeating the process a few times, knowing that any kind of training took time. Once he was comfortably responding on the first go with a treat, Sevyrn could wean those down and eventually he would be listening to her automatically. Life was good - they would be making their way inside the mansion in no time given how easy of a learner this one seemed to be already.
After a while, Sevyrn did as planned and started cutting down on treats. Fier still seemed to be doing good.

Sevyrn took her time with the ghaenelt, not rushing him to grasp the concept immediately - the more time that they spend on it, the better Fier's foundation of what was expected would wind up being. He didn't seem to need too much from her, though, and with time she had weaned her way right off of treats. Sevyrn was rather happy - they were half way done what they needed in order to venture inside. Once in there... well, who knew? As creepy as the place looked to her, she was getting excited to be able to finally wander in.
She was ready for one last go with this command, though, and then they would move on to 'stay' and finally 'follow me'. As the ghaenelt was a little bit away from her minding his own business, Sevyrn called to him. "Fier! Come here," she directed, and as expected the young one made his way over towards his girl.

Half way there - now for the second half. Sevyrn was prepared for this, she'd done the basics many times before. Luckily they weren't getting in to anything too difficult, otherwise she would have trained the ghaenelt back at home rather than waiting until they were already outside.
"Okay - now you just have to stay where you are, that's it," Sevyrn explained to the ghaenelt, who was still at her feet. She gave him a little pat and prepared to move forth. "Okay Fier, stay," she said, holding one hand up as a signal for the command. She started to step backwards but he didn't seem to understand it. What was the hand for? He followed after Sevyrn and she shook her head, crouched back down and held her hand out to him as she raised back up. "Stay there," she repeated, as she tried to work on the process. He would understand with time.

What... what was that? Sevyrn's attempt to teach the ghaenelt to stay was interrupted by the sudden clash of bone against bone, and the woman's gaze pulled away from the ghaenelt. It was a good thing that he was small because she didn't trust that he would stay where he was yet, and so Sevyrn scooped the ghaenelt up in to her arms.
Two creatures, bodies made purely of bone, fought in the distance, and Sevyrn held Fier close to her body as she dared to venture towards them. Finally something in the world struck fear in the little thing because there was no struggle to pull away from her body. They... they had no bodies, no guts at least - how the fuck was she supposed to do anything about this? They were rather small, approximately the height of her hips - they wouldn't be bothered by her would they?
As she approached she caught the attention of several small creatures around them.. Well, it seemed that things were aware of her presence now. She hushed the ghaenelt in her arm who was now starting to freak out a little.
"What are you things fighting about?" Sevyrn asked as she looked around - maybe she would be able to figure out what had them at arms with each other and quell the fight.

What were they fighting about? It was hard to distinguish - and they forgot quite easily, because they stopped what they were doing to stare at the person. Wow, they weren't very intimidating just loitering like that. They looked about ready to run away!

Well... that had been easy to break up, it seemed. As soon as the two bone familiars had realized that there was something much bigger around they seemed to forget why they were fighting at all... was that a little bit of fear that she saw in them? It was hard to read a creature that lacked facial expressions, but their anatomy gave away that they were debating running off. Even Fier seemed to calm a little more.
Alright... she was too big for these things. Would they accept some kind of offering? Sevyrn crouched down towards the ground and just looked at that pair for a moment, gaze switching between one and the other. She looked smaller than they did now, and hopefully that would be a little less scary. She had some bigger snacks meant for Fier in her backpack, so she pulled them out and tossed a piece towards either. That... probably would not work at all.
She also had a couple balls, meant to be toys for the ghaenelt, so each of the boney beasts got one of those rolled towards them. Quite frankly, she had no idea how to convince these things that she was friendly.

Huh. The beasts looked at each other, and then the offerings. One extended a leg... bone?... to bat at the ball, and jerked in surprise when it moved back in the person's direction. How interesting! Would they... like to play?

Huh... these things weren't so freaky after all. Look at them, wanting to play with the ball. They'd probably never seen anything like that before had they? Sevyrn crouched down to grab the ball that had been rolled back to her, and at the same time she loosened her hold on Fier. The ghaenelt seemed happy to have his feet on the ground, though he did find the two bone creatures rathee strange.
As Sevyrn rolled the ball back towards one of the familiar, Fier stepped towards them very slowly and with both of his heads low to the ground. What were they? He had never seen anything like them before in his life!
"You guys aren't so bad," Sevyrn said sweetly. Now that they weren't fighting... yeah, she kind of liked them. They would be a pair of interesting oddities to add to her gang if they liked her enough. "Yeah... you want to play with the ball?"

No one ever really wanted to play with the familiars. They were odd and frightening and scared everyone off. Thus, being shown the ball was a great excitement to them. They were happy to push it back and forth, and their posture appeared happy, if nothing else - they didn't look like they were going to run away.
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

Well... she had managed to quell that situation and even get the two bone familiars to seem playful if not friendly- whatever they had been fighting about was a thing of the past now that they had a ball and someone had been nice to them!
That meant that Sevyrn could get back to working with Fier - they were so close to being able to head on in to the mansion. Sevyrn kept a close eye on her two new buddies while she worked with the ghaenelt to get him to stay put on command. It was easier said than done now that he was so excited, but they would get through it.
"Stay there," Sevyrn said for the fifth time as she held her hand out and backed away from the ghaenelt, repeating the command and offering him a treat every few steps to reward the good behavior that she was looking for.

Bit by bit the young one started to understand better what was going on. He was getting rewarded for not doing anything? That was pretty nice, wasn't it? He really did want to go play with the two bone familiars now that they didn't seem so scary, but that just gave Sevyrn a good opportunity to teach him to ignore the distractions and that her instruction came first and foremost. The pair had shown up at the right time!
It took a few more tries before Sevyrn wanted to start work on the end stages of the command - not needing to repeat herself or offer treats. Luckily those were two things that she could do at once, increasing how much time she spent before telling the ghaenelt to stay where he was once again and still offering a treat each time. After that they could work on using the command without a snack reward.

After a few more relatively successful tries, Sevyrn was ready to stop offering him rewards. If he truly understood what she wanted and knew to listen to her, that wouldn't be a problem. Fier didn't really like that she wasn't rewarding him any more, and cocked his head at the girl. Despite the confusion he did stay where he was supposed to, though. Awesome! Sevyrn wasn't about to call it good here, though - she wanted to see if he would listen even when in unideal circumstances.
"Stay," Sevyrn said as she turned and walked away, offering neither reward or a second command. She then walked over to the two bone familiars, something that would surely make the ghaenelt want to come bounding over to her. She stopped to say hello to the two before turning around. When she finally looked back the ghaenelt seemed anxious but still where she left him. Awesome!
"Alright, come here!" Fier came as called, excited to be around his friend and the two strangers.

One more jaunt and then in they went! Now that she had already come to meet two of the creatures that may await her, Sevyrn was excited to see what else might be within the walls of the mansion - Fier just needed to know how to follow her on command so that he could be trusted to stay at her side. Sevyrn trusted the bone familiars to be fine... they were part of the mind games of this place, and likely already knew the secrets that it had to offer.
"Alright, Fier - one last thing. I need you to follow me when I say to," Sevyrn directed, though the ghaenelt simply cocked his head in return. What was she saying? He had no clue at all. He was going to find out soon, though.
Sevyrn gave him one final treat as a reward for learning how to stay put, and then walked off a little bit.
