Perhaps there in that field they could focus for a little bit - turn their attention to just the very basics of obedience. There was safety in being able to see for such a wide distance, and Sevyrn needed to know that she was going to have some control over the ghaenelt if they were to wander deeper in. In fact, this was probably something that should have been done before she had decided to bring the little thing in here in the first place. Hindsight was twenty-twenty, though, and Sevyrn wasn't known for having the best impulse control in the world.
She did have the forsight to pack some snacks, though. She had a bag of Brin's favourite and some snacks of her own, so the first time that the ghaenelt got pushed off of her and didn't try to climb back on after Sevyrn had told her to stop, the little thing got a treat for her troubles. "Good job, Brin. Sometimes you gotta stop what you're doing, doesn't mean you're misbehaving. Just means you don't know better than to not do the thing. You'll get it, Brin. I promise."

"Do you want to see your little birdy friend before we go, Brin?" The ghaenelt's head cocked to the side. "Yeah, I'm talking about you. Now that you're not so excited, I'm happy to let you introduce yourself. Can you tell her who you are little girl? Are you my baby B?" The chittering that erupted from the ghaenelt's mouth made Sevyrn chuckle sweetly, thrilled to see the little girl look so happy. This one was so much like her other ghaenelt - Bez would have probably lost his marbles over a little bird, too, and he was trained to be a fighter.
"Alright, alright. See the birdy, Brin." Sevyrn held her hand towards her shoulder, and as if knowing what the girl wanted it stepped off of her shoulder and down on to her fingers. Slowly, Sevyrn lowered her hands toward the ghaenelt who... immediately jumped up at the creature and startled it. The next thing Sevyrn knew, their little bird friend was perched on top of her head and making a nest out of her hair.
"Brin, no. No." Sevyrn wondered if the little thing would do any better this time than she did the last - and when Brin cowered instead of simply backing off, Sevyrn was struck with guilt. She hadn't meant to make the ghaenelt feel bad. "You're not bad, I promise. You just can't do everything that you want to, Brin. It's okay. Good girl, thank you for backing off."

Finding this bird actually ended up being incredibly convenient for Sevyrn. It was rather calm compared to most, who tended to be nervous and ready to fly off at a moment's notice. Brin was small enough that Sevyrn was able to keep it safe with ease, and it was strangely trusting. It made for a good motivator to Brin, who was eager to meet her new buddy but unable to if she chose to rush at it or climb on top of her human to get at it. Not only was the ghaenelt responding positively to her own name, looking up towards the girl each time that she was called, but backing off when told to and being gentler although still excitable.
This time the pair had been interacting almost playfully when Brin got just a little too excited for the bird's comfort. "Brin," Sevyrn called to catch the ghaenelt's attention, shaking her head as she said the word 'no'. Without hesitation B backed off, stepping away from the bird on her own free will.
That seemed... like a job well done? It was something that they would undoubtably continue to cement throughout the day, but Sevyrn felt confident that things would be mostly alright.

All is as it seems, for one moment. The next, the ground is shifting - you get the sensation of standing out at sea, watching land retreat away from you. But you're not moving... are you? Your stomach turns, uneasy with the peculiar motion. By the time things have slowed to a halt and you've regained clarity, you realise that the strange experience has separated you from your pet!
[Your pet is lost! It cannot be roleplayed for the next 5 posts while you find it!]

What just happened?
One moment all was as it should be, and in the next Sevyrn swore that she was atop a boat, waves rocking her from side to side as as she sailed farther and farther away from the shore. It didn't make sense as she was sure that she hadn't moved a muscle, but nonetheless it was so... real. It was the woman's first time experiencing the tricks that the mansion had to offer and she was left speechless by the strange encounter.
Even stranger, Brin was nowhere to be seen. A ball formed deep in her throat as she started to panic, scouring the razes of grass taller than that ghaenelt could ever hope to be. "Brin! Where are you?" She called out, the sound of her yell scaring the bird that still fluttered at her shoulder. It zipped off - maybe it was scared, maybe it knew where Brin was... Sevyrn had no way of knowing.

The bird flashed by her face, moving as fast as lightening as it dashed off eastward. Did it know where Brin had gone? Could it bring her back to her dearest baby - now, preferably? It was killing her not knowing where the ghaenelt could have gotten off to, and this was an unfamiliar place... though Sevyrn had feeling this place would be unfamiliar again if she ever returned to it, ever changing and leaving those inside wondering what might come next. Though she had known that the mansion had... questionable.. tendencies, she could honestly say that she was surprised by the sudden change she'd just gone through, an illusion so real that she couldn't even tell that it wasn't true.
Desperate to find the one she had lost, Sevyrn took off after that little bird they'd bonded with. Please bring me back to her, she begged, not even sure who or what she was trying to bargain with.

The world seemed to continue to shift around her - the canopies in the distance never seemed to get any closer, the door behind her never seeming to get any farther. Despite that, the little bird flew farther and farther in to the distance until Sevyrn could barely see it. She knew that she wasn't standing on one place, though - this bulding was playing tricks on her. It didn't want her to find Brin just yet - Sevyrn had to hope that the presence wasn't malicious, though - that the mansion didn't want to bring harm to her little baby. She really had done the wrong thing by dragging Brin out here in the first place. What had she even been thinking?
Desperate to locate the baby ghaenelt, Sevyrn called out her name, praying that maybe - just maybe - the training that they had just finished up would help her find Brin now that she was lost.

Nothing.
Sevyrn wasn't greeted with bitter silence - the world didn't even want to give her that much. No, all she got in response to her call was the distant echo of her own voice calling back at her, taunting her, teasing her that she couldn't find one of the things that mattered most to her. The search couldn't stop - she'd paused to call for the ghaenelt, but she couldn't stand there forever. That bird... that damned bird... was reaching the point that Sevyrn was about to lose sight of it entirely when she finally watched it swoop towards the ground. Was that a good sign? Had it found the ghaenelt that it had seemed to bond with just a little while before? As Sevyrn ran, the tree line finally seeming to come closer with each step, all that she could do was hope. In a good world, Brin would be awaiting her soon.

How did such a little building hold such a big field? Sevyrn found herself getting tired before she even reached the trees - now she wasn't a world class runner, but typically one could expect to be able to clear a simple field without being out of breath. It didn't help that she had essentially ran on the spot for ages while the landscape around her hadn't wanted to move. That wasn't what mattered, though - she could take a break and have something to drink after she finally found Brin. If she was lucky, that would be really soon. She swore that the spot she'd watched the bird dive down in was approaching.
And then the bird flitted back up - back towards Sevyrn where it flicked about right in front of her in a flurry of feathers and flapping wings before it dashed back towards where it had been before. Sev hoped that was the sign that she had been looking for.

Relief - that was the only word that could describe the way that Sevyrn felt as she reached the tree line and caught sight of a little black and white body huddled at the base of one of the oaks. With a last mad dash she made her way over to the little critter and picked Brin up off the ground, holding her tight to her chest - the ghaenelt squirmed to get away from the hold like nothing wrong had ever even happened. "I'm going to need to get you a leash," Sevyrn said to the little girl, loosening up her hold so that Brin didn't have to feel quite as claustrophobic. She had needed to make a trip to the Supply & Demand shop at some point soon.... a leash was going to be a must-have when she owned a critter like this. Brin may have been unharmed this time, but things could have been much, much worse.

With Brin held close in one hand, Sevyrn was able to grab a drink with the other. After finishing off what remained in one of her two canteens she shoved the empty back in to her backpack... it was time to get moving. They had quite the trek back to the main trail, if it even still existed. Knowing Sev's luck she would never make it back to the spot where she had started, and she would end up lost in this ever-changing maze of a mansion. She was much slower walking back than she was on the trip to the treeline, both out of breath and nook in desperation any more. She idly chatted with the ghaenelt, knowing that Brin wouldn't really be able to understand her, while that bird flitted along beside them. It dashed ahead here and there, even went so far off that Sevyrn had thought it would never come back, and yet it always circled back around to the pair.

It was surprising, seeing the pathway they'd started on as they got closer to the entrance. Sevyrn had truly expected it to be gone and replaced with... something or another. Something meant to screw with her, that much had felt like a given. The fact that all seemed well left her wondering what waited for them next, for now it was time to either hightail it home or pick a path to walk down. How was she supposed to know which one was the right one? Was instinct the right thing to trust in this mysterious place?
No. The bird was the right thing to trust in this place - it knew the mansion well, after all. As they reached the main path, the bird flicked down the left-leaning path and Sevyrn put her faith in to one of the mansion's own creatures. After all, this little thing had already been on her side when it returned Brin to her.

A gate awaited at the end of a short trail - fencing sprawled out as far as the eye could see. Sevyrn figured that she should expect many such things during this adventure, seeing how doors offered the divide between what this building had to offer. The other side of it seemed... normal, though. Nothing seemed to be any different. Was it a trick, or was there simply more path to wander? With Brin still clutched close it was time to test the waters out - she opened the gate and stepped through it.
Nothing changed... not immediately. She was maybe a dozen paces in when the expansive field she had just been part of faded and gave way to what seemed to be a tropical oasis - tall palm and rainforest trees (were those even found in the same places?) surrounded a lush expanse. The gentle flow of a waterfall pulled Sevyrn's attention to her right, where the bird dashed off.

What awaited her looked utterly serene - a river let out over a rocky outcrop, draining in to a pond so clear that Sevyrn could see the bottom. Despite the fact that she couldn't swim to save her life, Sevyrn found herself drawn to it - and to the idea of climbing in. Would it hurt to dip her toes in? Would the mansion suck her deep beneath the surface if she did, or at least trick her mind in to believing such a thing had happened like it had with that ship not so long ago? She didn't dare let Brin go, she wasn't about to lose the ghaenelt again, but she did dare to remove her socks and shoes and pull up the legs of her pants. Sitting on top of a large rock at the edge of the pond, Sevyrn dipped her toes in to water and let out a sigh as the cool relief hit her. 25 (Brin - 4)
