Sevyrn had... never owned a pachee before - she'd been interested, heard that they made great garden companions and knew that they were one of the few species that were readily breedable, but she simply had never gotten the chance to own one before. That changed one day when she was offering her koguma up for sale to a good home and someone showed up interested in it - that had been how she came to own Albion, a rather interesting looking white-furred little thing. Now that strange bug-like beast was in a new home, one that would love it much more than she would, and Sevyrn had her foot in the door to start raising and breeding pachee. It had worked out in everyone's best interest! Almost immediately she had gone to figure out how to get her hands on a female, only to realize that they were rather expensive and hard to get.
That wasn't something that she was going to be able to solve in a day, but rather something that she was going to need to put work in to. Either she would need to be able to make the credits to be able to buy one, or find someone willing to let her borrow theirs.

She ended up choosing to stop by the place she had been not too long ago, the one where she had borrowed Trip for the day and gotten two rather stunning orbaru babies out of it. She remembered that there were pachee up for offer as well there, and she was allowed to take a look over all of them. So many of them were absolutely stunning, but she had ended up taking a liking to one of the tri-colored girls - black, orange and white. Her name was Cross, and her owner had been happy to let Sevyrn borrow her for the day, in exchange for a small sum of credits. She was ready to breed, the owner assured her. She didn't mind the cost at all - it was chump change to her... for now at least. It wasn't going to stay that way if she didn't stop spending her credits instead of saving them.
From there Sevyrn loaded the little lady in to her cart, and started her trek back to pick up Albion from the kennels. Once there she walked Cross inside to meet Albion for the first time, and the two seemed to be happy with each other.

Sevyrn wasn't in any rush to get to the breeding center - it would likely start just like every time before, sitting in the waiting room filling out paperwork. It was getting late in the month so there wasn't as much of a rush as earlier on - most people were done for the month now, and would be starting up in about a week when their creatures went back in to season. Sevyrn was looking forward to the new season - it would be her first with that pretty lotine she had found the other day, and she imagined that the lotine that girl would create would be beautiful... and potentially make for some very interesting lola, were she ever to buy a maturity potion.
After sitting idly in the kennel for a few minutes to let the two pachee get to know each other, Sevyrn coaxed one and then the other in to her hooded wagon. She tossed a few strawberries in to the little feed-trough she'd installed back when she first bought the cart, knowing that she planned to use it for transporting animals, and then it was time to head off. Hopefully this girl would end up liking Albion enough that they would breed.

She pulled up to the front of the breeding center and parked the cart outside, urging the pachee to come back out of it. Sevyrn opened the door for the pair and let them run in, curiously investigating the reception room. As the attendant handed her the paperwork to get a room, they must have been able to sense her nervousness. "Is this your first time breeding pachee?" She asked, and Sevyrn nodded, slightly embarassed that her anxiety was so obvious. The attendant was helpful, though - gave her a few tips and tricks to keep the little guys happy. When asked if she had any berries for them Sevyrn had to say no, but she also did that on purpose - she wasn't going to put money in to something she wasn't sure about yet. As long as this was a success, then she would be back again later, and this time with the various items to encourage the lady to have more kits, as well as one of those berries that would hopefully give her a female of her own. For now this was simply dipping her toes in to the water to see how it went, and give her a baseline understanding of the process in action.

Books could only tell her so much, but book smarts was all she had right now. As much as they could tell her quite a bit about... well, anything she could dream of, they couldn't predict exactly how these little guys were going to act. While the nature of a species as a whole could be semi-predicatable, on the individual level every being varied from the next one. For example - Albion seemed fearless compared to the female, trying to climb in potted plants (only to be pulled away by Sevyrn) while they waited for the paperwork to be processed and to be brought back to the room that they would be assigned. It only took a few minutes - pretty quickly the attendant was calling her and the pachee over, only to guide then down the hallway and stop in front of one of the rooms. "This one will be yours for today - take as long as you need, good luck!"
And with that... the attendant was off, and Sevyrn was left to take the two pachee inside and see how this went. With any luck it was going to go well and she would be walking out of here with some new babies and another thank-you to Cross's owner.

Any time that Sevyrn went out with one of her creatures, she always packed toys and treats that she figured they would enjoy. Today was no different - she wanted these little guys to be as happy as they possibly could, after all! As the pachee ran around investigating every corner of the room to take in their new surroundings, Sevyrn settled in to a chair at a small table. She had to get comfy - this could be done pretty quickly, or it could take forever before the little lady became receptive to Albion's pollen. With her backpack on the table she scoured through it - her sketchbook could go on the table, but it wasn't what she was looking for. Sevyrn wanted to find the various toys that she had brought to entertain the pachee and let them play together with. After a moment of digging she was able to pull out the small selection, and placed them on the ground in front of her, rolling the ball from her feet towards where the pachee were closer to the center of the room. Albion already seemed to be incredibly curious about the female that was there with him, but Cross seemed to still be shyer.

It seemed that she still needed some time to grow fond of Albion - that was okay. They had all afternoon if they needed and Sevyrn wasn't about to rush reproduction. Lart of the reason that she had gotten so interested in breeding various critters lately was that genetics and reproduction fascinated her. It was always interesting to see what genes ended up passed on from parent to child, figuring out what was more dominant and what wasn't. There was a science to it as well as an art, a predictable rhythm that Sevyrn hoped to be able to learn. Sometimes it was basic - red plus blue equaled purple. Sometimes it was more complicated - what genes had given Spacemonster that shimmer in his tale, while his sister looked more like their mother in terms of body? How exactly was lola appearance determined, was it simply how well they were cared for? How much of a role did parent variety play? She knew enough about pachee to know that females were more likely to pass on their genes - why? Would she see any piece of Albion in their child? How was sex determined in pachee, a majority male species? It had to be more complicated than a single factor like in people.

Curiosity would always get the best of her, it seemed. There had been so many different topics that Sevyrn had immersed herself in, hoping to find out the deep-down 'how it works' of just about anything that crossed her way. She had always been that type, the one who always wanted to know why and how. Back when she had been a kid and still had the attention span to keep her nose buried in a book for hours that was all she would ever be seen doing - as an adult she had turned towards the more hands-on approach to the world around her in order to keep herself actually invested rather than distracted and abandoning various projects. Breeding... was easy enough. She could forget to make time to bring anyone down here for a month or two or five and no harm would come from it, but the possibilities excited her so much that Sevyrn was continually looking for any new excuse to come down. She was currently waiting on a response to borrow another Orbaru, this time from the Zu - eventually her own stock would be varied enough that she wouldn't need to adopt, but that potentially came with the risk of inbreeding. Spacemonster and his sister were Sevyrn's current top picks to try out next, and she couldn't have all of her troupe related to them...

Sevyrn was brought back to reality by the sudden thud of... something. She looked up just in time to see a cloud of pollen dust growing around Albion, and the first thing that Sevyrn did was look towards Cross. The slit on her forehead wasn't open - she wasn't quite ready to breed with Albion just yet. She seemed to be intrigued by him, but was still closed off. That was okay... as long as the boy didn't push her. Tamed pachee had the benefit of being able to be selective with their mates, so Cross wouldn't be having any babies until she was ready - not him, or any other male that might come around her. Sev was going to tell the pale-furred boy that he needed to calm down a bit, but he didn't seem to need that encouragement - he had just gotten excited. Rather than slamming his tail against the ground to release another cloud of pollen dust, he leaned in close to the female and gemtly nuzzled her. Yes, Albion - that was the more appropriate response to her. Rushing wasn't going to get him anywhere, as much as he seemed to want to make a mother out of the borrowed pachee.

From there things happened quickly, though. Sevyrn kept a close eye on the two as they bonded, and as such she noticed the moment that the slit on Cross's forehead started to open up - the mere sight of that was enough to excite Albion enough for him to slam his tail down again! He thumped his tail another couple times for good measure and Cross leaned in towards him, taking his pollen in. Obviously she liked him enough to be receptive to him, which was great. Were the females guaranteed to take? Sevyrn hadn't read anything about them potentially needing multiple pollinating sessions, so she assumed that just one trip would be enough for her to go home and end up with a new pachee of her own. If worst came to worst, she would come back with them again to see if a second go would have any more luck. Knowing that the females' genetics tended to run more dominant, Sevyrn was really hoping for a baby that would end up looking mostly like Cross - she was an absolutely beautiful pachee that Sevyrn would love to have a mini-me of. Happy that things seemed to be done, Sevyrn packed up and got ready to head out.

A male is born! He seems to favor his mother quite a bit.
