What's more, he'd brought another of those drakes with him. Kunzite recognized this one. It had been there while she trained. It knew that she could breathe fire and might even pose a danger to Kunzite if she did it in the wrong direction. It had NO idea why she needed to be back here. She already knew how to defend herself, what else could the human possibly have to train her?
Heh. Best not mention that to her. Then again, she'd probably take pride in it.
“Alright, girl. You can breathe fire just fine, but we need to get you using your claws, too. There’s only so much you can do with fire. What if you come up with an opponent who’s resistant?” Kadin babbled on, completely ignoring the fact that his sarane couldn’t understand him and was probably looking at his back, utterly bored right now. Eventually he lead them to a fairly decent sized cave, one he’d scoped out just for this purpose. It needed to be large enough that she’d have room to move, but it also shouldn’t be too far from the entrance. They wouldn’t be here too long.

MORE ways to defend herself? This was just overkill. Kunzite slunk off in protest, figuring that if it was going to be disgruntled it might as well be disgruntled while it looked for gems and other shining things. It could feel them, all around it, especially since it didn't have any gems on itself right now. It thought longingly of the crystal it had found once before focusing on the task at hand.
“Alright.” Kadin walked over and picked up one of Chiara’s paws. She grumbled, a lot growl in her chest, but let him handle it for now and examine her nails. “Hmm.” Kadin then walked over to a second of the wall and pointed to it. This was another reason why he’d brought her here. There were plenty of pick marks on the walls that looked just similar enough to claw marks that they might work.
“Rend.” Kadin said, trying to get her used to the word. He picked up her paw again and scratched her claws against the stone. “Rend.” He repeated.
Chiara was mostly tuning him out. She sniffed at the wall, curious about the markings, but not curious enough to actually, you know. Do something.

The blue gem was first. It was easy to see, in the dark and with mining familiar senses. It picked it up carefully and tucked it away, knowing that items such as this needed to be treated carefully in order to be taken care of. It had found it along the wall as they'd walked along, in a pile of rubble, like so many gems had been found before. Carefully humans, always over looking what was right in front of them.
Try to replicate them. She DID think that whoever scratched up the stone must have had the right idea, however. It would probably feel good to run her claws over them, she hadn’t been able to do anything like that since she was a hatchling down here! It had been so long! So the hen lifted up onto her hind legs, rumbling pleasantly while she scratched her claws against the stone surface, sharpening them up to fine points. Only to be startled by that human again.
“Good girl, Chiara! Good rend!” Kadin said quickly, offering her a treat. She seemed puzzled, but she’d never been one to turn down treats. Chiara took it from him with a happy rumble.

It circled around the human and sarane as they trained, knowing there was another gem nearby. This one was a bit more tricky. It could sense something shielding it, probably rocks. It was probably partly buried, at least. It stick its head into nooks and crannies, searching it out, gazing through walls as if they were made of paper so thin it was translucent. Eventually, it found it, a purple gem to add to the rest of a purple collection. It was pleased.
She went back down on all fours to stare at Kadin after than, expecting something else. But he was just standing there staring back at her, not giving any commands and any more treats. Rude. With a huff, she went back to sharpening her claws since he’d interrupted her to begin with.
“Rend! Good Rend!” Kadin said again, offering her another treat. Chiara took this one, too, still puzzled, but still not ready to turn down a treat just because she didn’t know what it was for. Once again, she waited to see what Kadin wanted. Once again, he just stared back at her, waiting. She huffed again and sat down with a thump, tail flicking.

Not sensing anything else just yet. Kunzite decided to see what the human and drake were up to. A whole lot of not much, it seemed, but it wouldn't be too harsh a judge just yet. It wasn't like it was the one being trained. It had seen training like this before, too, although on a much smaller scale. The male, the one that had followed it around. That was the one who had done this training before.
He was being annoying. Interrupting her and then not explaining why! She tossed her head and scraped her claws against the stone again and-
“Rend! Good Rend!” And more treats. Huh. Maybe there was something to his strange behavior after all. Chiara accepted the treat and, considering, scraped her claws down the stone again. “Good! Good Rend!” And she earned another treat for her troubles. Chuffing to herself, pleased that she’d working out why Kadin was acting so weird (seriously, he needed to work on his communication, she didn’t speak whatever weird babbles he kept making), Chiara turned to really scape her nails down the rocks. Sure enough-
“Rend! Good Chiara! Good Rend!” Kadin have her more praise and treats for it.

Kunzite soon grew bored and went off to look for gems again. It did not want to learn to hit things with its claws, unlike the sarane and its owner. It simply wanted to continue its search and find more gems. Perhaps more purples. Perhaps blues. Really, it wanted more crystals. Finding the one was almost additive to it, in a way, tempting it with what it knew was out there. What it wanted.
Her tail flicked happily this time, pleased with her discovery. So all she needed to do was scratch the wall and she got treats! Before she could turn to do it herself this time, Kadin said, “Rend!” Just as she was going for the wall. Once her nails made some decent groves in it, he followed up with a, “Good Rend! Good Chiara!” And more treats. She could get used to this!
They continued that way for a little while longer. Kadin was lucky, in a way. Everything he’d been trying to train his sarane were all natural behaviors they had already. Just like with any large predator, it would be next to impossible to teach them something they didn’t already want to do naturally.

Kunzite wandered around, seeking more gems. It searched the walls some more, remembering the ones that had been hiding away. It also searched any rock pile it came across, knowing how careless humans were to leave gems lying around unattended. It continued looking, knowing that it would find something as long as it was patient. It wouldn't take long before more gems were in its grasp.
All he needed to do was make sure that he timed his treats at the right moment and eventually they’d get it. Chiara knew him well enough to pick it all up pretty quickly, too. Kadin repeated the exercise at least a dozen more times, making sure that she associated the word ‘rend’ with, well. The action of rending something with her claws. Once he was satisfied she attack that once patch of wall readily enough, he enlisted her to attacking the opposite wall. Then some stalagmites that where in a corner with a small puddle of water. Then some other places here and there. Chiara, pleased with herself, and claws freshly sharpened, took to it all quickly enough. It certainly helped that she enjoyed tearing things to pieces. And, who knows, maybe all this destruction would give Kunzite plenty to find later.

Kunzite wandered back over to the human and the sarane as they seemed as if they were wrapping up... whatever it had been they were trying to accomplish. It circled around them, clearly judging them for something or another, before going up to Kadin and having the human take its latest finds from it. Might as well. It was going to find much, much more soon. It could feel it. So it didn't mind giving up paltry treasures for now.
Satisfied with the training and how Chiara had done, Kadin figured that it was time for a break. He walked over to the hen and praised her for a job well done, patting her side and making sure that she hadn't done any damage to her claws with all that rending. That was the last thing they needed, not when she still had so many fights left.
Chiara did not protest the attention. In fact, she reveled in it, enjoying that she was the focus. When it had been her and the drake, he had fought for attention, but even then she had been more special. She knew her worth and she was ready to continue to prove it. It was easy enough in the pit.

Thinking on that, she was impatient to get back to her fights! The hen grumbled at her keeper, pushing and shoving at him as if trying to get him to MOVE. SOMEWHERE. She did not care for his amusement, only that she was returned to her rightful place to continue to show others what she was worth!
Kadin chuckled at her behavior, which she clearly did not appreciate. Kunzite certainly wasn't going to be happy about this, but it looked like it was time for them to get moving already.
That accomplished, it moved away again, giving the sarane a wide space just in case its claws decided to get a little too friendly. It did not think that the sarane could hurt it, not unless she tried to use fire, but there was no harm in caution and it had caution today. It could not die before it found more gems, after all. And especially not before it was able to venture into the deepest and darkest parts of the mines proper.
The human started for the exit and he was right. Kunzite was NOT pleased. It swirled angry, sulking, behind the human and the sarane, clearly not ready to leave, but also not getting much say in the matter at all!

[Annnnd back to Lux!] Kunzite was pleased to be back at the mines. It had NOT been pleased at ALL to have left in the first place! Now that they were finally back, it huffed its way through each and every tunnel Kadin lead them through. It knew that literally nothing it did would move the human or the houluh that was with them, but it was going to vent its frustration in any way that it saw fit. And, they were back again. Chiara had finished her training up and headed back to the pit to beat up more drakes. So Kadin was back in here with Lux, ready to get more of this training on the road. But first! They needed to pacify the mining familiar. Kadin walked the houluh and familiar through the tunnels, going through each twist and turn until they came across a place deep enough that Kunzite seemed satisfied. Once that was accomplished, they could get started. Kadin had brought a hoop with him this time. Lux was very, very excited to see what they were going to do with the hoop. What he probably hadn’t been expected was for Kadin to put it right in front of him. Through Hoop: 1 126

It continued in much this same regard as they continued through the mines. Along the way, its senses slowly began to pick up on objects in its surrounding once again. Huffing a little bit less now that it was distracted by actually finding things, Kunzite wandered in and out of the shadows while still vaguely following after the human, for the most part.
He then held a treat on the other side.
“Through!” Kadin said, tempted Lux with the treat. The hoop was low to the ground so Lux had no difficulty walking through it! He quickly trotted through the hoop to get his reward! “Good, Lux! Good job!”
Alright, they were off to a good start this time. After the last couple tricks had been a bit iffy, Kadin was happy to have an easier one. He put the hoop down again and tempted Lux through again with a treat. “Thought!”
And Lux happily walked through the hoop again! There was nothing scary about the hoop. Lux could easily was through it, it was big enough for a full grown houluh and he was still a puppy! He also had no trouble walking forward, he would jump for less! He could do it!

It could sense something... that wasn't a gem. Something living? Something that made its home in the mines, just like it did, but was not like it. It huffed and puffed to itself some more, wondering what it could be, when a pocket pet literally jumped out at it. Swelling up to over thrice its size, Kunzite quickly scolded the pocket pet. It swept around it, herding it with its shadows.
So it was easy enough to tempt him to do this part of the trick so far.
Kadin held out another treat on the other side of the hoop. “Through!” He said, wanting to make sure Lux knew he was supposed to go through the hoop every time he was given the command. The puppy easily walked through the hoop again, tail wagging.
Kadin had him practice this several more times. Each time he’d tempt him with a treat, having him walk easily through the hoop, then give him the treat, praise, and pets once he did a job well done. They repeated this for a while longer until Kadin could just say the word ‘through’ with no treat and Lux would happily walk through it! He was doing real well!

It had no time to babysit this kind of nonsense! It had actual gems to find! Once the pocket pet was appropriately subdued, Kunzite went back to searching. It quickly found a gem that, apparently, the pocket pet had been hoarding for some reason. Time for another scolding. It berated the pocket pet, pleased to have something to take its frustrations out on that wasn't the human or the silly things he brought with him.
Now that they had that part pretty much down, it would be time to introduce a more difficult aspect. Actually getting Lux to jump through the hoop. Kadin wasn’t looking forward to this part and, considering Lux’s history? He was probably right not to. Here goes.
He held the hoop up a little higher this time, only a few inches over the ground. It was still plenty low that Lux should be able to walk through it with ease. “Through!” He told him, pleased when he stepped through just fine. Kadin gave him his treat and praised for it. He didn’t want to rush Lux, either, so he kept the hoop at the same height for a couple more turns, getting him used to it.
