> Xentus, accompanied by pachee trio.
Another day, another venture. That's been his motto lately, it seemed. One day, he'd take to wandering the earth within the abandoned mines, the next he'd in Eterra with the nanaiyesh, and today, he found himself at the breeding center with a group of pachee. He had two loaners from Jack, and one female which he bred with Miss Ferella a couple weeks prior. They.. Seemed like they'd be an interesting set of pachee to breed. He didn't know much in terms of genetics with them.. If they even regarded much in terms of genetics. He rather just wanted to see what would happen. It was kind of his driving force in live, seeing what would happen.. For better or worse. That and wanderlust. And curiosity. Ah, he could be a mental mess sometimes.
The leopard shook his head, refocusing at his venture for the day. The three pachee were toted along with leashed harnesses, quite happily chittering among themselves. Well, one was chirping. Blackbird in particular was an interesting pachee, sporting a beak and feathered wings! He rather enjoyed his coloration. Next to him was Gambit, a particularly flashy pachee with lightly bioluminescent skin. Xentus hoped it might pass such a curious feature to its offspring. Then there was Fauna. A fluffy female with beautiful natural brown colors. Being the only pachee of his own, she was of course his favorite of the bunch. She was steadily attempting to escape the incessant courting of the males, scurrying closer to his legs than the other two

"Settle down now", he gently advised the pachee, looking down at them fondly. Of course, they cared little for whatever words he had to offer. He sighed at them, figuring to leave them to play freely as long as they didn't tangle their leashes. That would be troublesome. The group arrived at the sterile white building, front doors sliding open before the leopard. The lobby within was no different than the last time he was here, plain white, clean, moderately busy.. There were a few other people here sitting at the benches, waiting for a room to clear for their breeding. A couple turned their head at his arrival. Nobody he knew in here, it seems though.
Xentus walked in and filed in line after a mammalian woman and her pair of kairfuryoo. The three pachee in his company made squeaky little noises of alarm, seeming unnerved by their new surroundings. It was a stark difference from the bright and sunny outdoors. Blackbird stretched his wings, chirping at the bird-like creatures in line before him. One of the kairfuryoo glanced back, clucking curiously at this decidedly faux-bird. Xentus couldn't tell if the little pachee was trying to impress the much larger and different kairfuryoo or what. Whatever the case, it staying relatively still was only a good thing for him. As long as it didn't try to harass anything here, he'd let it be. Meanwhile, the other two pachee bobbed their upper bodies about like squirrels, establishing their presence in this sterile environment.

Before long, it was his turn at the registration counter. He had his ID ready, though he would need to spend some time filling in the forms for all three creatures with him today. Thankfully, he was growing familiar enough with the process. The mammalian greeted the attendant at the counter, presenting his information and letting the woman behind the glass catch a glance at his trio. The bored look on her face lit up briefly as she saw the interesting bird-like pachee, but settled back to a jaded facade. A set of forms were slid to him along with a clipboard and pen. Xentus dipped his head in thanks and strode off to sit and spend the time filling in the forms, letting the person who filed in behind him have their turn at the counter. He'd return when he was finished. There was no rush, he had plenty of time for the day.
The harnessed pachee scurried along behind him, with Fauna jumping up onto the bench as the mammalian took a seat. Gambit and Blackbird seemed content enough on the ground, rattling their segmented tails at each other. He hoped that was a sign of them getting along.. He didn't want to break up a fight between two creatures which weren't his own. That'd make him look pretty bad in a public place such as this.. He silently wished for them to be on their best behavior, keeping tabs on them inhis peripheral vision while filling in the first form.

The curious female pachee shoved her nose around his arm and hand, seeming to sniff about for whatever interesting thing he was doing here. Scrawling on paper wasn't the most exciting, but the sounds it made were intriguing. Scratchy. The leopard smiled gently at her, pausing from writing to pet her fluffy little mane. Quiet chuffing sounded from the pachee, somewhat like a purr if he had to guess. As much as he hated to admit he enjoyed cute fluffy things.. He did. They were a stark contrast to the giant beasts he kept in her personal menagerie, but even the biggest of them were covered in fur. The smaller, cuter things weren't usually the most interesting of creatures.. But he figured he could make an exception for pachee. At least they were different from most other animals.. Er, if they could be called animals. Living plants? He wasn't actually sure what to classify them as. Which in turn made them interesting! The breeding was as much a venture to garner himself more of the little plant-creatures as it was an opportunity to study them. He did bring along his journal, after all. He didn't really get the chance to take down any notes when he bred them with Miss Ferella. Out here on his own, though, he'd have as much time as he wanted to study and document their behavior.
Down by his feet, it seemed the two males were generally alright with one another. Not fighting, at least. Given that they came from the same owner, he sure hoped they were accustomed to one another.

As much as he didn't want to stop petting the fluffy little Fauna, he still needed to finish filling out the paperwork. Very carefully, he offered her a couple more assertive pets, then carefully nudged her off the clipboard. Her half closed eyes widened quickly, noticing the movement. The two bright yellow eyes peered up at him longingly, questioning his heinous actions. Xentus sighed, deciding that it would be alright to indulge the plant creature for just a little while longer.. He could try to manage writing with just one hand. It was a little cumbersome, and his penmanship would suffer, but he wanted to look favorable in the eyes of the little pachee. He could feel the soft spot he had for them grow bigger. Not like anyone would judge (nor would he care if anyone did), but he did feel as if he were cheating his goal of 'beast tamer'. Such cute creatures could hardly be counted as beasts.
It took a little more time now that he had to balance between rubbing the soft mane of a pachee and filling out the form for a breeding room, but he managed to get the first one done relatively well. One down, two to go. One for each pachee. He glanced down at the two males down by his feet again. It seemed like they'd mostly calmed down about the new place and each other. Gambit lay on the ground while Blackbird attentively watched as some strangers came and went.

At least those two weren't antsy. The leopard settled back into his head, satisfied that the two males were going to stay calm. Pachee were rather lax in his experience. They could be playful, but never really too energetic. A nice garden companion or even house pet. He didn't really had much a plan for Fauna and her future progeny aside from decorating his garden with life. He did read a bit about selling pachee pollen.. From males, of course. He figured he might end up taking on that venture eventually. But he had to garner himself a few male pachee first. The form page was flipped, blue eyes checking the reverse side for any other information he might've needed to jot down. Even if he had done this before, he was rather meticulous about getting the job done correctly. Seemed like Fauna's sheet was fine, though. Now for Gambit and Blackbird's.
Fauna seemed to lull herself into a small nap given the head massage she was receiving. Which meant.. He could have his hand back now, right? Slowly, the leopard's petting ceased, and ge gently lifted his hand from the fuzzy mane of the pachee. He held his breath, scared for her to suddenly awaken. And.. No, no, she was still awake. Those bright yellow eyes jut open and stared him down hard, silently demanding he return his hand. And he couldn't say no to those adoring little eyes. Back into the fluff his hand went. Was it just an excuse for him to continue petting the plant-animal? Probably.

The page for the female seemed to be a lot more in-depth than the male's. He didn't realize it before, since he'd never specifically brought in a female pachee before. If he remembered correctly, the female pachee could only be bred and bear young once a month or so, while the males could produce pollen all year round. So it only made sense that there was a bit more care put into the well being of the female of the species. The leopard continued to fill in the form literally single handedly. Hopefully Fauna would get her fill of petting by the time he was done, or else this venture might be cut short if this was all she was interested in. Perhaps once she had some of the berries he brought along, she'd find more interest in the company of the males.
With the rest of the papers filled out, he was ready to get them submitted and ferried into a room. Hopefully they wouldn't have too long of a wait. In his prior experiences, he never did need to wait long. Last time, he waited longer for his partner to arrive than for a room to open. The breeding center was always seemed to be moderately busy. Not packed, not empty. The leopard clicked his tongue as he stood up and started toward the counter, rallying the pachee to follow after him on their leashes. Fauna seemed a little sullen, while the two males were happy to have her company with them on the ground again.

There was nobody at the desk, so he was free to stride right up and her things going. "Here we are", the leopard said quietly as he submitted the forms. The attending woman hummed an affirmative noise as she looked the forms over, writing down a few notes on the papers herself, then turned to submit the information into a computer. When she was done, he was handed a note to attach to the door to signal occupation.
"Room number 5", the lady muttered, waving him off. Xentus thanked her with an unseen bow of the head and headed to the hall where the breeding chambers were. The first few were usually for orbaru, but it seemed Pachee did well in such an environment as well. Bright, colorful, filled with toys. He'd used one of the orbaru rooms when he bred kairfuryoo a while back. The trio of pachee padded along after him, seeming happy enough to be out of the sterile white lobby. The hall wasn't much different, but there were glass windows to see in through to the various, colorful rooms. As they passed by, Xentus noticed the mammalian woman with her kairfuryoo within one of the first few rooms. It was oddly comforting to see. This was the first time he was here completely alone, he realized. The first time was with Xio, the second time with Miss Ferella.. And now he was on his own. It didn't bother him, but the realization only now set in.

All things considered, the wasn't a very difficult venture to undertake. Supervise some creatures as they.. Do their thing. Make sure they get along, no fights, maybe feed them some snacks, then be rewarded with their progeny whenever they were born. His prior experience was enough to tell him this much. And with the guidance of Miss Ferella, he did feel confident in rearing pachee on his own. They, like orbaru, were more or less intended for the 'common folk' to be able to rear. He took this as a stepping stone toward rearing animals like houluh, which was another venture he intended to undertake at some point. He was raising two puppies for the show ring, and hopefully they'd end up producing young that he could sell or add to breeding stock. He wasn't nearly as interested in the creatures for their companionship, unfortunately.
Room 5 was only three sets of doors down, and the group reached their destination without a problem. The leopard entered the bright and colorful playroom, ushering the pachee in and locking the door behind himself. The note for occupation was posted, then he turned his attention to the pachee to unleash them. He figured that the harnesses could stay on, to make it easier to gather them up later. Fauna was the first freed from the lead, and she very quickly scampered off to play with the grand assortment of toys available. Blackbird was next, who was a little eager to play and rather took a closer look around. Then Gambit, who happily scampered off to play with the female.

Xentus opted to seat himself on one of the bright plastic chairs in the corner of the room, situated next to a squat table. His pack was slung off his shoulder, his leather backed journal fished out of the messy interior along with a mechanical pencil. The pages were flipped to the first available sheet, halfway through the journal. Most of the notes taken in here were of the various animals that he kept in his care, more recent entries centered around the elemental golems that had been taking up a lot of his time recently. He'd calmed down a bit about ferrying about the undying loyal beasts. Admittedly, after he was finished here, he was probably going to spend time with one of them again. They demanded a lot of attention in order to mature properly. Ah, he didn't want to think about them. This was his much needed break from the creatures. The nice thing about pachee was that they were 'born' as a mature specimen. He definitely wouldn't have invested this time if he needed to rear them as young..
Blue eyes glanced between the blank page and the three pachee scattered about the room. Well, that was the first note he'd like to make: no needing to rear young. Ah, and then the berries! He'd need to portion out the berries between the three with him.. And there were three berries. Or did he want to give them a bit of each? Ah, these kind of questions were ones he didn't have the chance to ask Miss Ferella..

The scribbling paused for a moment so that he could take a look at the berries he brought with him, tucked nicely into a container in his pocket. The bright red berry was a.. Masculinity berry? Yes, that sounded right. For the males, only. Looking between the two males, Gambit and Blackbird, he felt like he'd rather give it to the bird-like pachee. If he garnered himself his own winged, bird-beaked pachee, he'd be rather happy. He had an affinity for those who could take to the air and fly. Wiurn were among his favorite beasts in his kennel, with his precious alurook being a close second.
The leopard clicked his tongue, gathering the attention of all the pachee. He really only wanted Blackbird to come over.. But what did it matter if they all did anyway? And so they all did. Fauna was the quickest to curiously see what the clicking was about, jumping up onto the table to sniff around. She made a soft smile crack onto his muzzle. Next to arrive was Blackbird, the one he originally wanted anyway. Gambit was slowly taking his time, seeming unwilling to part with the ball he'd found to play with.
"Here, Blackbird", the leopard cooed, beckoning the creature closer by tapping his claws against the table. Fauna seemed to already know what was up, nosing about the container on the table. Blackbird hopped up with a flutter of his wings, chirping curiously at what the man had to offer. In his hand was the bright red berry.

The beaked pachee tilted his head at the berry, edging closer to it to eye it better. Then, with a careful peck, it was plucked from the man's hands and quickly swallowed down. The creature rattled its segmented tail, deep purple eyes looking at the man as if to ask for more. Unfortunately, he could only offer a gentle smile and showed the creature his two empty hands to show he had nothing more to give it for now. It didn't seem to get the hint, however, staring the man down hard for something more. The leopard felt he might get pecked if he didn't have anything else to show the creature.. There were some strawberries in his pack that he could share.. Ah, but the other pachee berries came first. He could have them all share the pink ones, if he remembered right.
Those ones were Feminity berries, to help increase the chances of producing female offspring. As far as he knew, female pachee were more difficult to produce by normal means. If he wanted to breed the creatures more often, he'd need to either keep borrowing loaners from Jack (which he truly didn't mind) or have females result from breedings he did. The second option was preferable. As much as he enjoyed the selection of studs and dams Jack had to offer, he would prefer to be a little more self sufficient. As he was opening the container to fetch the pink berries, Gambit made his appearance atop the table, seeming more interested knowing that food was present.

Well, the gang was all here now. Localized entirely atop this table. Right, best to speed up the process of feeding them. The leopard plucked a few of the berries from the sprig, portioning out some for each pachee. Both males and females could enjoy these ones, so why not give everyone a little taste? Blackbird was the easiest to feed, considering he had a beaked mouth to pluck the berries with. But the other two.. He remembered seeing Miss Ferella's pachee kind of mush them around and soak in the juices with its paws. He didn't really want to make a mess in here, but if it was localized on the table, he figured it wouldn't be a problem to let them do their thing where they were. He'd just need to clean up whatever remained. It was difficult remembering that these creatures were actually animate plants. They seemed so.. Mammalian.
That was another note to jot down about them, for posterity's sake. He'd have a hard time keeping in mind that traditional animal biology might not really apply to these beings. Xentus gave each pachee their own serving of the pink berries, watching each consumption method. The bird beaked one continued to pluck and swallow, while the other two stamped down the berries to release the juices. Fauna was a little more elegant in her method, pressing the berries between her paws. Gambit opted to use the hard table top to press against, making a much bigger mess than he was looking to clean..

And the last berry he had was to help enhance the.. Fertility of the female. It almost looked like a pepper, shaded in a soft blue tone that almost matched his fur. This one was only for the female, and so to Fauna it went, held up to the female while she was busy mushing the pink berries between her paws. Her brilliant yellow eyes looked between the leopard's own blue eyes, then to her little paws, then to the berry presented to her. An intruding, curious little nose pressed forward to give it a sniff. Gambit seemed interested in having some for himself.. While Blackbird was a little more interested in the leopard's pack. The mammalian man shooed away the greedy nose and waited patiently for Fauna to take the blue berry in her tiny paws. It took her a moment to be decidedly finished with the pink berries, dropping the dried skins onto the table as she grabbed for the pepper-shaped berry.
Xentus smiled at her, letting her have it while keeping Gambit away. He seemed to get a little more riled up after having himself those berries.. Blackbird too. The winged, beaked pachee had its head stuffed into his pack, tail flicking like a squirrel's as it pried around. With a sigh, the leopard pulled the creature from its fun riflings, picking it up and setting it down on the carpeted ground much to its displeasure. He was met with a fluffy of wing flaps, which were deceptively powerful for such a small creature.
