Well. Kadin had come here looking for a new quest, but he hadn't expected to be confronted by an old lady who was having a nyssa problem. He listened to her carefully as she told him how she'd been looking and looking for questers to solve her problem. Some people even had! But for some reason, not all of what she'd lost had been recovered yet even though it had been a while. Or maybe she meant that the problem happened again? It wasn't exactly clear on that point. What Kadin did know was that there was a large nyssa out in this woman's sprawling gardens somewhere that needed a talking to. At first, he hesitated. He still had his puppy with him, having just gotten back from his last quest, and they'd had a bit of a problem with the lama that had been involved in that one. At the same time... 1

He didn't want to leave this old lady here in a bind. Plus, he had experience with nyssa in the past. If all he needed to do was to convince this one to give up its treasures, he was sure he'd be able to do it. His own nyssa back at his kennel weren't too bad, not once you got to know them. Hesitantly, Kadin accepted her quest.
"Sure, I can look into the problem with you. It might take a little bit of time, I'll have to go slowly and carefully to keep this little one safe, but we'll recover your crystals." He told the old goat, hoping that she wouldn't try to hug him or anything for saying yes.
"Oh, bless you deary! I'll be right here when you come back with your reward. Now run along, I'll keep my ears out in case you run into any trouble! Good luck!"

She waved him off, gesturing vaguely in what was probably the direction of her gardens. With a shrug, Kadin went, still holding his sleeping puppy in his arms. Now if he'd thought to bring one of his grown houluh? They'd probably have an easier time of it. But unfortunately he'd been caught with nothing but this puppy in his arms so he'd have to make the best of it. Kadin made his way over to where the gardens were, as he'd been directed by the old woman. Once there, he had to just. Stop and stare for a moment. They were HUGE. Larger than he'd been expecting. They were also full of trees and plants and other growing things. He wasn't sure how, exactly, he was supposed to find on Nyssa in this whole big mess of plants. It would blend right in with the rest of the area! But he owed it to the woman to try.

So, Kadin and his pup ventured off into the gardens. He figured he'd best start on the pathway. It was a winding, twisting thing that went between rows and rows of veg, flowers, and all manner of plant life. In truth, he figured that a plant pet probably wouldn't be right off the path, but at the same time the path was literally built to take a traveler throughout the entire garden to see literally everything there. This wasn't a wild woods where he needed to go trekking off and create his own path. He was sure that if he just kept following this one he'd find the nyssa. What he hadn't figured on was that the path itself moved much like a maze. It twisted back on itself a worrying amount. It crossed over itself, even under itself, and before long Kadin was pretty confused about where he'd started and where he was now.

His entire directional sense was throw off. But he kept going for it, convinced that he'd find what he was looking for if he just kept following the path forwards. As best he could, mind you. And trusting that he didn't accidentally take a wrong turn and wind up retracing his steps. Which totally didn't happen. Like, two times. ... Oops, make that three. Kadin frowned down at a bush that he was sure he'd seen before. Its leaves looked purple and it had blue berries. How many bushes that looked THAT strange could be here? Taking a page out of his sarane and houluh's book, he growled softly to himself and decided to just keep moving forward. He told the old woman it would take a while anyway, on account of the puppy. She'd just. Uh. Probably assume it was because of that and not because he got lost a few times. Totally.

It was a surprise to all involved when he finally did come across the nyssa. Kadin had come to a part in the path that practically made a flower itself with how many twists intersected each other. He stared at that path for a long, long time. He didn't want to just walk eight loops and look like the fucking idiot so he was trying to trace the path in his mind so he could just cross over it and go in the right direction. The problem was? There were at least six ways that he could be led off from this path. And he had no idea which was the right one, even if he did walk around all the loops and followed the path exactly. He was just about to take the 'fuck it' route and walk straight forward and hope for the best when he saw some leaves and branches shifting out of the corner of his eye.

Normal trees did NOT do that. Kadin spun around, staring at what he'd thought was just a tree off to the side of the path. The tree stared back at him. He sighed, relieved to have finally found the nyssa, and tried not to think about the long, long walk he'd have back and how difficult it would be to find his way back. Instead, he walked up to the creature and said, "Hello. I'm not here to hurt you. I'm just looking for something you took."
The nyssa, obviously, did not understand common. Kadin figured it would be a bad idea to get too much closer. He didn't want the nyssa to think that he was a threat. Instead, he decided to circle it to see if he could spot the crystal cluster the woman had been talking about. If he knew where it was, it would probably be easier to convince the nyssa to make a trade.
The nyssa stared at the human, mistrustful. Other humans and other creatures had come here and tried to take things from it. It did not appreciate things being taking from it. Some had been rough and mean. Others kind. Only time would tell how this one would be.

After circling for a bit, Kadin finally spotted what he was looking for. The crystals were there, half buried in the ground and cradled in the nyssa's roots that passed for feet. It had dug into the ground deeply, clearly planning on staying here for a while to guard its hoard. Kadin's shoulders slumped down, knowing that now he was in for the hard part. Convincing the nyssa to give up its prizes. He shifted the pup to one arm while he was holding it, ignoring its whine of protest at being moved. He dug around in his pockets until he found some shiny stones that he'd been collecting. They were nothing of real value, not something his mining familiar would kill him for giving away, but they sparkled in the light and were no double full of different minerals that the nyssa might take and interest in. Kadin held them out for the nyssa to see, offering one, simple word, "Trade?" while gesturing to the crystals.
The nyssa eyed the human, tending and shaking its leaves in threat when he started digging around for something in his pocket. It knew it! He was up to no good! He would try to hurt it and- oh. Hm. That was interesting.

The nyssa leaned forward, blocking out the sun partially as it examined what was in the human's hands. Shiny rocks. They caught the sunlight, sparkling and shining in it, and it was captivated. It leaned forward even more, extending branches to take the shiny things, knowing that these would be its now and it would hide them away in its roots and no one would be able to take them...
The human pulled his arm back. With a frown, Kadin closed his hand over the rocks he held and shook his head. He gently put down the puppy by his feet, behind him so that he was between it and the nyssa, so that he could point to the crystals still at its roots and say a word it didn't understand again, "Trade?" He was firm about it, too, clearly not backing down.
The nyssa shook its branches at the human, rustling its leaves loudly and longly. It did not want to do whatever it was the human was indicating. It did not like him pointing at its crystals! It wanted the shiny rocks and it wanted them NOW the human needed to give them up! But he was clearly not intimidated.

Kadin simply, calmly, pointed to the crystals at the nyssa's roots again. He said the word it did not understand. "Trade?" But it was beginning to pick up the intention behind it. With a sound like a sigh that was the wing running through its leaves, the nyssa shrank back on itself, looking around from the human. It looked as if the great, giant tree was pouting.
Kadin rolled his eyes. All creatures here were the say. "Hey!" He called until he got the nyssa's attention. He took a step forward, pointing at the crystals again and opening his hand to show it the shiny rocks, tempting it over to his way of doing things. "Trade? Come on, you know you want to. You can do more with these than those crystals. They just sit there and look pretty, these are actually useful to you."
Leaves shaking harder, the nyssa eventually slumped down and admitted defeat. It DID want the shiny rocks. The human wanted the crystals. It would have to give up the crystals to get the shiny rocks. With great reluctance, it passed the crystals over to the human and he gave it the shiny rocks. Smiling, the human also offered it a bag of fertilized dirt, which it happily accepted, before scooping up his houluh and leaving. Perfect. It was alone again.
