It would need to be able to stick its legs through the soil in order to branch out and absorb nutrients. This could not be done if it could not get its legs through the soil in the first place! So it needed a spot with looser soil. While looking, it happened to notice that some plants had been fruits. Well. Not plant. Mushrooms weren’t plants, even if they looked like them. They worked well with plants, though! Since they broke down compounds.
Once more leading him through his legs and rewarding him once he did it correctly.
As they kept practicing, Lux started to pick up some confidence. He still clearly was a bit cautious about the whole thing, but over time he was going through more and more readily. Kadin kept up the same thing, leading him through his legs, saying the word, and rewarding him for it over and over again until Lux was more comfortable with it. He didn’t try to encourage more speed or to do it multiple times in a row just yet, just for Lux’s comfort, but he was working him up to it. Kadin kept up with the command until Lux was no longer hesitating at all.

They added nutrients back into the soil by decomposing old plant matter and organic matter so that the plants could use them later. It poked at the mushroom a bit before moving on to look for something else. It still needed a spot where it could get nutrients, after all. But instead of that, it found some fruit on the ground. It was very red and partially broken open, showing small red seeds inside.
And he would readily go through the moment Kadin asked it of him. Once he hit this point, Kadin figured he could go on to the next step.
“Through!” Kadin said, stepping forward. He made the same gesture he had been making before, as if leading Lux through with a treat, although he didn’t have a treat in his hand anymore. Lux went through his legs without any hesitation, just like before, seeming to have grown comfortable with this new word. Kadin tossed him a treat and stepped forward again, “Through!” He said, directing Lux to go back through his legs. Lux did so again, following the direction, tail wagging as Kadin tossed him another treat. They repeated this for a while more, Kadin stepping forward and directing Lux through.

It didn’t really have any use for fruit like this, although if it rotted and the mushrooms got ahold of it, then it would have some use for it. But if the seeds were left alone like they currently were it was more likely that it would sprout than that. Regardless, it decided to move on to look for another spot, one with less fruit around and more of the soil consistencies that it was actually looking for and wouldn’t be displaced by things later on.
He did this until Lux was going through with no hesitation and seemed completely comfortable with the command word. Once that was done, Kadin felt comfortable moving on to the next thing that he wanted to teach Lux.
This time, he wanted to teach Lux he’d actually already taught a couple other houluh. This was a fun one, too, and required a lot of running around. Since there were plenty of paths in the gardens, Kadin felt that that shouldn’t be too difficult. Kadin started off by calling Lux over. Then he started walking, encouraging Lux to come with him. After a bit, he shouted, “Race!” and started off running. Lux, of course, wasn’t sure what to do about that.

It continued on its search, looking for a good place to put its roots down. It tested a few spots in the soil, digging down to test it, but it hadn’t found a good spot just yet. Many places the soil was too packed down, especially with the roots of all the other plants around here. It dug its roots in all over, looking for a good place. On its search, it just seemed to keep coming across more and more fruit!
He was confused, barking in concern while Kadin ran away, but after a certain amount of time he was worried about Kadin running away for good! So Lux took off running, too, not wanting to be left behind. He wanted to make sure it was near Kadin and that Kadin didn’t go home without him and leave him there! So Lux ran after Kadin, barking and yipping at his heels, trying to get the human to slow down and stop and explain what was happening! This was very confusing! But Kadin kept running, for some reason, going ahead of Lux and running up and down the paths of the garden. Lux whined about it, keeping pace with the human for lack of anything better to do.

As they ran along, Kadin eventually spotted a creature that seemed to be looking over... something on the ground. He slowed to a spot, recognizing the creature vaguely as similar to some other things he'd seen in his kennel before, but he'd never seen one quite like this. As they drew closer, he noticed that it was standing over some fruit and berries. Curious, Kadin called out to it, wondering if it could understand him at all.
"Hey, what do you have over there?" He asked, glancing down at the berries and back to the creature. Was it trying to hide away some food for winter? It certainly looked as if it was getting ready for the transition to winter. "Are you hungry? We have some fruit we could share." He said reasonably, hoping he didn't just scare this creature away the moment he had just found it.
The Skutirut, meanwhile, seemed to sense the commotion both from the human and houluh running and from the creature hoarding fruit. It made its way over, also curious about what was happening. Although it couldn't see anything, it could still sense things, and it could tell that there was another creature like it nearby.

The koguma is torn between protecting its tiny hoard and running off! The person doesn't seem too frightening, though, so it deems it safe to stick around for now. It blinks its huge eyes at you, and then cocks its head. The words don't mean anything to it, but it's certainly listening!

Alright, well, talking didn't seem to do much. Nothing besides entering him in a bit of a star off with this creature, at least. Kadin frowned to himself, wondering what he could do next to seem non threatening. He dug around in his pockets to see if he could find anything that might convince the creature that he wanted to befriend it or something. As luck would have it, he DID have some fruit in his pockets and... it was even red! He held it up, showing it to the creature. Then he tossed it over, half way between it and him, to see if he could convince it to get any closer. He also held up another fruit, too, but didn't throw this one, instead just holding onto it.
Lux watched all this with his head tilted, curious about what was going on! Throwing food? Should he go get it? He wasn't sure! The Skutirut skuttled around Kadin's legs, waving its leaf around and also seemingly not really sure what was going on around here. At least the both of them weren't trying to scare off the strange creature at all. Hopefully having them with him would make him seem more like a friend.

More fruits? And the same colour as its preexisting hoard? It clicks and scuttles over to pick up the thrown one, and forgets its hesitations to come right up to you. Huh. That was easy.
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

Huh, well. That was much easier than he thought it'd be. At first he was a bit nervous when the creature was coming right up to him like that, even going so far as to back up a step, but all it did was accept the fruit from his hand. So, easy. He smiled at the creature, pleased that it seemed so comfortable with him so far, and figured that'd be about it. Probably time to get back to training. Kadin glanced over at Lux again, supposed that what was best to do now was to get back to trying to teach him how to race. So he called out to the houluh, "Race!" and took off jogging again, encouraging the houluh to go back to running with him.
The Skutirut wasn't much sure what to do with all of this information at all. It was beyond pleased that there was another plant creature here now, but this one seemed to require an awful lot of fruit and berries to be happy. Perhaps the fruit that it had been finding before would go to a good purpose now. It could easily take on the goal of finding a good spot for itself and also look for fruits for its new friends.

After running together side by side for a bit, Kadin stopped to praise Lux and say “Good race!” After all, what he wanted was for the houluh to run! But this wasn’t exactly everything he wanted. He also needed Lux to try and beat him in this race, although the houluh seemed hesitant to leave Kadin behind in that way. So, he needed more encouragement. Kadin said, “race!” and took off running again, away from Lux. He started off slow, not wanting to get exhausted himself by running all over the damn place, and he also wanted to encourage Lux to run with him. Lux yipped again and seemed very concerned by this, not knowing what to do when Kadin was running away like this!
With that resolve, the Skutirut set out again to look around for a good place to root and also good fruit for its new plant friends. It wandered around for a while, not really knowing where to start in finding fruits. It wasn't exactly its area of expertise, after all, being a creature that didn't need to eat so much as just absorb nutrients. But even a novice like it would be able to find something before too long.

So Lux ran after Kadin again, this time hanging back and mostly just running after him. He wanted to stay with Kadin! He didn’t understand that Kadin might want him to run even faster. Or maybe Kadin wanted him to just chase him? Chasing was fun and Lux didn’t mind doing it! He did like to run a lot! But after a while of running around Kadin stopped and looked at Lux and seemed confused. Lux was also confused. Kadin didn’t give him praise and a treat this time for running around and he wasn’t sure why. He ran right behind Kadin the whole time and stopped when he stopped! He wanted to stay with him!
The next fruit it found was very green. It was shaped strangely, with a large end and a small end. It poked at it a bit, wondering if the other plant creature would even want it if it wasn't red. In the end, it decided that it probably didn't matter and gathered it up anyway to bring to where the plant creature had been storing all of the other fruit it had been gathering. If it could help in some small way it would be satisfied.

It decided to keep searching, figuring that the more it found the more comfortable the new creature would be. It scuttled around, here and there, looking for the proper things an insect plant like creature would need to be happy. Of course, being a plant itself, it didn't have much of an idea of this, but it was the thought that counted. It searched high and low to see if it could find anything.
But when Kadin stopped he was looking back as if he wasn’t sure if Lux was even with him. Now they were just staring at each other, both a bit confused and unsure about what to do now. Kadin signed and Lux tilted his head, not sure what he meant by that. Kadin figured that there wasn’t much to do for it but to try again, so he told Lux ‘race’ again and took off running. Lux was actually really starting to enjoy this game, running was always fun, so he happily started running behind Kadin again. He ran behind him like that for a while before picking up some speed to run along beside him, barking happily about this fun game they were playing.

The next thing that it found just happened to be some flowers. They were small things, falling down and looking like bells, not that it could see them. It could sense, them, however, and how they were trying to gather pollen to reproduce for the plant they were attached to. It wasn't sure if a plant insect would eat flowers, but it wouldn't hurt to get them anyway since they were there, more likely than not.
Kadin seemed to encourage this behavior, too, telling him how good he was for running with him! They kept running around a bit more, Kadin encouraging Lux to keep running faster and faster, but Lux seemed to stay by Kadin’s side. After a bit he stopped them to praise Lux and give him some treats for at least picking up the pace. It was slow going, but at least he was starting to get it. Kadin wasn’t quite sure how he was going to encourage Lux to go from just running next to him to actually racing ahead like he was supposed to, but he’d keep giving it a try. For now he was going to celebrate the small victories of having Lux run alongside him instead of running behind him like a creep.

Now that it found the flowers it brought them over, too, but it wasn't sure if they would be accepted or not. It didn't exactly stick around to find out, either, instead choosing to wander off again in search of something else, something more. Surely there was more fruit around here, everyone, even the human and houluh, seemed to appreciate having fruit around. If it could find enough everyone would be satisfied.
This was the progress that he wanted to see in order to know that Lux was starting to get it. Kadin decided to try something a bit different with Lux this time. Instead of just running on his own, he started running AT Lux. If Lux liked to just chase Kadin, then maybe Kadin could get Lux to race ahead by chasing him. And wouldn't you know it? Somehow that seemed to work. "Race!" Kadin called, charging at the houluh. Lux started, watching him approach and getting more and more excited before he took off in a sprint, looking back at Kadin to make sure he was chasing him. "Good Race!" Kadin called, offering Lux praise as he tried to keep up. That was what seemed to get the trick to work.
