Fanged hadn’t spent time with Heather for a while. She wanted to take the Pasha-Sarane out for some fresh air and she found herself instinctively heading towards the quest board. Heather was content to follow along, happy to be outside after being cooped up for a little bit. Fanged chose a quest that looked easy enough to accomplish with the baby pet in tow. “I don’t think I’ve ever been to the garden area of the labs before. This will be a learning experience for the both of us,” she remarked. Heather blinked up at her, following the woman dutifully as she headed off in the direction of the gardens. The Pasha kept pace with her easily as they navigated through an unfamiliar section of the city. It didn’t take them too long to reach the gardens however, it took Fanged a bit to work out which garden plot they needed to go to. (Heather 9 1/5, 16 1/5) 1

Fanged didn’t know much about gardening, but she figured driving away some pests would be an easy enough job. Heather appeared at ease in the garden environment. She took in the various sights and smells, appearing to have a fondness for flowers. While she was busy investigating the flowers, Fanged took it upon herself to hunt down the pests they were meant to be eradicating. She had a few strategies up her sleeve for dealing with the pests and she would try them out until she found the most effective one.
“From the quest description, it appears that we’re hunting caterpillars, so keep an eye out for where they’re clustered,” she commented. Of course, she didn’t expect Heather to do that much work in fighting the insects, but she could maybe get lucky and squish a few under her feet by chance. Fanged grabbed a magnifying glass and went to work examining the plants.

When she looked at the plants up close, she didn’t see anything that resembled oversized caterpillars, she was clearly looking in the wrong place. She moved away, taking a less close-up approach to things. Heather followed her. After she had removed her preconceptions of what she considered garden pests to be, she finally saw the oversized caterpillars that she was meant to be exterminating.
“Those are a lot bigger than I expected,” she commented.
Suddenly, she felt silly for bringing a magnifying glass with her. A morbid thought crossed her mind that she could use the magnifying glass to burn the caterpillars, but that method felt too awful for her to indulge in. She would start with good old-fashioned squishing of the unwanted pests. She had worn rubber boots for precisely this purpose. There were five caterpillars in the immediate vicinity. She gritted her teeth and went about eradicating them.

Taking care of the caterpillars temporarily was easy enough, but she needed a more permanent solution to keep them away for good. She dug around in her backpack, pulling out a small, electronic device. She’d picked this up before heading over to the quest. She’d need to find a good area to set this up and cross her fingers. If it worked properly, it would solve the pest problem. Heather had grown distracted once again. She was busy staring menacingly at the caterpillars that had invaded her space. Fanged laughed at the strange image that produced. Her Pasha-Sarane couldn’t exactly be described as menacing, so the glare was mostly ineffective. Fanged gauged the area, trying to find where the caterpillars were clustered in the greatest numbers. When she saw a cluster of fifteen, she decided to set up the device there. She placed the electronic device down and began to fiddle with the settings.

When the electronic device blinked to life, Fanged took a step back to observer. Heather raised her head, curious as to what the device was exactly. She tilted her head as she watched it blink, not sure what it was supposed to be for. To Fanged’s relief, the electronic device seemed to be doing its job. The caterpillars immediately fled from the area, moving in a large swarm away from the area the device was in.
“Well it’s definitely repelling them. I hope that’s enough to keep the infestation at bay.”
Heather moved back to her side. She didn’t appear fond of the device, but it didn’t seem to be impacting her like it was the caterpillars. Hopefully, that was a sign that it wouldn’t impact the natural wildlife in the garden as well. It was meant to be a sort of pest control and it seemed to be doing that perfectly fine. She considered this quest to be a success.
