In order to compete in the Show Ring, reply to this post to put on your show! Include your pets' image and stats in your first post, as well as any items they're wearing, will be used in your performance, or the pet was groomed with. - At the bottom of your first post, please note which participation prize pet you would like! -
The show ring or arena can look however you like, and it's safe to assume staff could procure some extra embellishments if needed for your performance, or special accommodations for critters that require it. Use any of your pets' many abilities to show off for points and votes from the crowd! Pets may use moves that they don't know on command in the show ring; there's ways to prompt that untrained COD to breathe fire, right?
At the bottom of your show ring posts, please make note of what abilities, moves, and tricks were displayed, and if they are used on command or not! Otherwise they will not count towards your score.

The first of the twinned contests to participate in was the freak show. To celebrate the freaks of nature and those who were wholly outcasts from the norm. That is what a freak was, as the leopard understood. Though it didn't sit well with the him, he carried through with displaying Astaroth in the show ring. The chimera rarely known of and even more rarely seen.
The talkesh wasn't a freak.
It was a monster.
Of course, to the leopard, Astaroth was respected other. Regal. Careful. Reserved.. To Xentus, it was unfair to the talkesh to be known as a freak or a monster. Perhaps he could come to educate those here in the show ring. To begin erasing away any tales of the horrific, terrible, three headed monster that was the talkesh. He did understand that people were here to gawk at freaks, but wouldn't they anyway? Xentus inhaled deeply, then lead the black beast into the show ring.

The talkesh stood tall and undeterred by hushed crowd. It was an imposing creature, standing about eight feet tall - it towered over the leopard as it followed after his lead. Each of those three heads were looking in different directions, taking in the sights and sounds of this strange place and these stranger people. For being a monster, it was groomed and looked rather proper, with a freshly brushed mane. Its fur was shiny and scales were shinier, making it look all the more sleek under the spotlights.
"Greetings", the leopard announced to the crowd as he took center stage, "Xentus brings before you all to see today something of a rarity. Astaroth here is a beast known as - a talkesh." He gestured to his companion, glancing at the steadfast chimera. There was a disapproving look at the lion's face as it stared out at the crowd. And the serpent tail was focused on the leopard, seeming to question the meaning of this activity..

"A chimera of three different heads, merged together and sharing a single body. Borne of nature but feared by peoples, it is called a monster by most", the leopard explained, pacing along the edge of the stage. His blue eyes gazed about the faces in the crowd, gauging their reactions. Some were wide eyed, like they were witnessing a fairy tale in the flesh. Others were leaned forward, expecting something.. More. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else that he had in store here than to speak of the chimera.
"Some of you may have heard of the talkesh. But, weren't they rumored to be only female? A huntress with a goat head and stamina, a lioness's head and might, and a serpent's head and venom", Xentus continued, walking about the stage. Astaroth gingerly paced behind the man, finding the most comfort in his nearby presence.
"Such a tale makes Astaroth here an even rarer sight"

The talkesh fanned his wings and shook his maned head, growing anxious about the lot of people staring at him. At first, it seemed to not be so bad, but he preferred the peace and dimness of home. Xentus glanced over at the beast, reading his body language well enough to understand. They wouldn't be here much longer.
"Fret not, despite the stories of talkesh being stitched together from various animals by some form of twisted magic, it is not quite the case. Xentus would call him an enigma. Others might say a freak of nature. But, certainly not a monster", the leopard finished up his speech, returning to the center of the stage with a bow.
"This one thanks you all witnessing Astaroth!", he concluded his little march around the stage with the lumbering talkesh. The performance (if it could be called that) was a short one, but he truly had nothing more to show about the chimera. What he wished to say had been said. And with that, he and the black beast made their exit.

She had little time to glance over the soft-skins and their beasts, the majority of which looked as if they belonged rotting in some butcher's cave than prancing about for entertainment, but she had noticed the three-headed creature. She had heard rumors about that one, that it's kind were of the best to hunt on the plains, that they had three powerful hearts to feast upon, and plenty of others. It was a pity, from what attention she could afford to show them while her beast shifted and randomly leaked flames, that the soft-skin owner only bragged about the rarity of the beast. Oh, what she would have given to have brought a single dagger that day. But she had no dagger, and the braggart was mercifully quick. Then it was her turn, and the glaring lights of the stage dimmed as she walked the crossbreed before the unseen swam of soft-skins. And for a short time, that was all they did. There was no great show of power, no bragging to the soft-skin audience that this beast was rare, just a mute stroll as the crossbreed leaked tongues of flame from its body while it trotted along like a normal equillion. After they reached one edge, a quick turn and a little more walking revealed the almost graceful stumble-stagger that was the result of having a greater amount of legs on the this side. They halted as they reached the center of the stage and, with a demand that the beast wait for a moment and the beast amazingly staying still, Haix skip-ran to the edge of the stage, grabbing the cheerfully burning torch that had been placed there as they had walked for the amusement of the soft-skins. The light of the torch hid much of the stage from her, but the crossbreed stood where she had left it, dull beside the light of the torch but more than bright enough to see. The torch was waved in front of Hekesh, it's glowing purple eyes tracking it as she did so, then she stabbed the butt of the torch into the ground and took a step back. At first, nothing happened. She might have imagined the cough from the darkness, some muttering as the crossbreed did nothing but stare at the flame for a handful of seconds. Time enough for the question to rise in her mind of how many treats she had fed it to lead it here. It was a good thing she had no need to win to secure what she was after. Then the thing opened it's mouth, wider and wider, until the purple flame within it flickered for the soft-skins to see. It extended its mouth toward the burning torch until it was only an inch away, the merry yellow flame now dancing toward the open maw as if it could fight the crossbreed, could protect itself from the thing. It was a flame, what could it have to fear? Little embers of red and yellow drifted into the things mouth, then the flame itself began to stretch its way down the things throat, the crossbreed burning brighter as the last tongue of flame leapt free of the torch with a huff of air and down the crossbreed's gullet. The thin stream of smoke winding up from the torch was just visible in front of the crossbreed, the beast glowing brighter than it had before the feeding. "Hekesh," she added for the crowd, pulling the torch free of the ground with one hand as the other flapped at the crossbreed. They left it a moment later.

It was the day of the Freak Show, and Morgan had walked out to Waar's barn very early in the morning to get him up and around for the contest. He definitely wasn't happy, but something within him had a desire to follow Morgan to the edges of the earth. So he deals with all of the preparation, and before long they are waiting around for their turn out on the field. Waar is quiet, and so is Morgan. Waar was well trained, though he could be even better trained if Morgan didn't have so many projects going on at once. He was a long-term project, if one could even call him a project. It was an odd way of thinking.
It was their turn soon enough, and they lead the large zombified critter out into the Show Ring. "Greetings Everyone, this is v-Waar!" Morgan whistles a command, and immediately Waar draws himself up, his wings held high, looking intimidating. 'Great job' Morgan thought. "Though he looks Scary, he is very smart. H-he can even speak, but only when he wants to." At this, Morgan nods to him. He makes a deep noise in his chest, and Morgan responds.
"Waar c-can repair lots of damage to his body u-using his ability to shift his bones back into place." Morgan gives him a command to play dead, and then they step purposefully on one of his forelimbs with a thick rubber-soled boot. The corrosive body sizzles against Morgan's boot, but thankfully the rubber boots they had decided on did the trick of protecting Morgan from it for the most part.
The bone shifts out of place, and then with another command, Waar shifts the bone back into place, and stands up. With yet another command, he SCREECHES across the room, into the open air of the show ring. "Waar can also f-fly, and do plenty of other things, but that will be all for us today. A-after all, Wiltholm will be back with another spooky beast in the Vai Min Mur Show. G-goodbye everyone!" They called Waar to follow them out of the ring. Thank goodness that had gone well.
[Waar shows off his Intimidating nature and Corrosive Body, and then uses Play Dead, Bone Shift, and Screech all on command.]

Should she have even been here? Probably not - she had come to care for a creature that suited the theme of a 'freak show' was too late in the game to even be able to even train it anything...
She eyed her bone familiar nervously, aware that she would likely place in the bottom rung of this contest. At least the creature suited the theme? Ish? She had laid eges on the other 'freaks' here and they were all strong contenders. Worst case this would be experience for her, maybe a few bonus contest hall points on the basis that Noctus at least vaguely belonged here.
She walked to center stage, the black bone familiar ambling after her. He was nothing more than bones, creaking joints with each movement of his limbs. As they reached center stage and the spotlight fell on them, and his lifeless eyes glowed bright red.
The familiar growled towards the audience, bones shifting against each other as he contorted his body and then realigned himself. The audible cracks and creaks of his bones sent a shiver down Sevyrn's spine.
"And this is Noctus," was all she had to say.

In some ways, Aster's job for this competition was easier than it had been for the Vai Min Mur show. He'd had to coordinate a whole routine for it, even if it was simpler than things he had done with Grunty or Avander, or even Rhys. Nightshade hadn't had the benefit of a ribbon, and he hadn't known as many things to show off either. But Draugr had no training, and knew very little at all. But in some ways that made things harder too. Planning out a way to showcase anything Draugr might be able to do was a nightmare, and so was getting him here in the first place. But at last it was done, and they were ready, and the show, as it were, could begin. (Male Orbaru please)

The creature in question was a real freak, though Aster had already seen other creatures who were even more unnerving - not to say disgusting, to speak of the ones who were visibly falling apart, held together only by some dark magic. But there were ways to demonstrate just how strange Draugr was, and most of them were unpleasant.
He could only hope the staff and audience here had the stomach for it. It was a 'freak show', after all.
When the lights went up, it was on a stage with a transparent glass tank filled with water. Inside was a heavy cage on a complicated looking platform; and inside the cage was Draugr. The halfbreed was very much awake, and slowly shambled from side to side, possibly made restless by the sudden burst of light.
Aster took to the stage. "This is Draugr," he said. "He doesn't need to breathe, or to eat. He's not really alive, technically."

Having demonstrated that much, Aster pressed a button on a remote control, and the platform rose out of the water. The halfbreed stopped moving, and turned his attention to Aster. A low, rumbling snarl emanated from him; apparently he hadn't fallen apart enough to make him incapable of vocalizing. But then, Aster knew that much.
There was a gasp from the audience, presumably as they got a better look at him, and Draugr wheeled, as if noticing them all for the first time. Another snarl - and this time me moved a step towards them, suddenly menacing in the face of all these strangers. Aster had to give it to the halfbreed, he could assert some oppressive force when he wanted to.
Aster pressed another button. At once, a tinny wail went off around them. Draugr stopped short once more for a moment, caught off guard, before giving a screech of his own in answer.

One would expect such a massive beast to roar, not screech like a banshee, but there it was. Aster had been plenty discomfited himself, when he had first heard it. And as the tinny wail playing from the speakers rose in pitch, the halfbreed let out a much more unsettling wail of its own, a shriek that was unnervingly similar to a human scream. It seemed to echo throughout the building with supernatural force, and after a moment, the cage bars rattled precariously.
"Draugr's specialty," Aster said, "is taking punishment." He pressed another button on the remote, and several steel stakes shot out from the bottom of the cage platform, piercing the halfbreed. Rather than screaming out, however, Draugr bore the blows with only a low grunt. It was the kind of attack that would have felled lesser beasts, but he remained standing, his baleful gaze sweeping out at the audience.

Then, moving without warning, he freed himself from the stakes and lashed out with his tail. The first strike merely clashed against the metal stakes with the harsh sound of metal ringing against bone, but the second strike was imbued with a dark energy that threw motes of shadow on impact. The stakes snapped under the blow, at which point Draugr seemed to regain a measure of calm; and then, with another low rumble, he resettled himself. With a roll of his massive shoulders, his bones snapped back into place one by one, in a small cacophony of crackles and pops.
"That's it for us," Aster said. Unlike his showing at the Vai Min Mur contest, this wasn't really an occasion for dramatic flourishes. They'd come, they'd shown off some of the things that made Draugr... 'special'. And now it was time for them to go. The stage lowered down into the floor, where Aster could collect it from backstage later, and Aster made his own exit by walking out of the ring.

With the pumequin done and settled, it was time for the second show. In so far their luck had been good - she had hear tell rumour of a pliathor having been entered, but it was neither before them nor matching the description of the 'offending one', so as far as their prospective 'Do Not Make A Scene' plan was going, they were right on schedule. But even so, as they drew closer to the curtains and the line before them dwindled, they still needed to put up a show..
The Contest Hall wasn't a place the sphinx frequented often, as the usual contests had more pomp and circumstance than she was used to. The concept of the competition was to show off pets performing, but it was rare that any of hers really wanted to perform to begin with, so unless they were whimsical enough to not care or enthusiastic about it, she hadn't seen a reason to take part most of the time. Nightmare was a bit of an experiment, in that case. Her initial reluctance was largely fuelled by a previous negative experience, so to better accommodate her into settling unsettled aspects of her past, they needed to try again (And this time, with hopefully less of the drama).
You ready? the sphinx asked, as the previous performer left and they were up.
Nightmare snorted a puff of blue-green smoke, eyes narrowing, Let's spook 'em.

It would have been a fair bit of spectacle to ride into the arena with saddle and bridle, but as this was a contest about more freakish physical aspects, they had decided against it in favour of showing off more of Nightmare's true form. (Plus, riding without a saddle didn't really work due to very sharp bones and spines making it.. Uncomfortable. It's why she had had to get a specific adjusted saddle to begin with). Instead, the sphinx walked into the arena first and gave a bow to the judges and audience. "Good day, everyone. Today I am here to present a true undead marvel - Nightmare." As she finished the sentence, the hand extended towards the side of the stage and she stepped back. The clip-clops of ghostly hooves echoed as the equillion walked in, head high, gaze gold, and tail slowly lashing behind her to leave chilling trails of smog.
"Nightmare is the result of a Tainted Equillion risen in the Temple of Shadows, and thus has been Blessed with shadows in return. Much like her Tainted kin, she still has a weakness of the light, but a mixture of wind affinity runs through her blood as well." The equillion made a slow circle around the arena, just slow enough to be seen, just quick enough to show that she had nothing but disdain for anyone and anything looking at her, and should anyone make a comment about anything (Whether she understood it or not), she can and would burn their face off.
The sphinx stepped to the middle, continuing, "It can be a bit unsettling to see her at first, but rest assured, she is well-trained." As the equillion gave a particularly baleful glare at one audience member, craning her head towards them with the beginning of a hiss, the sphinx called out, "Nightmare, stop." The equillion paused, turned her head away and looked to the mammalian. "Come here," she beckoned, and the equillion followed.
A bit much there, don't you think? The equillion's posture betrayed no sign. Perhaps. But they were looking shifty. Probably deserved it.
