Another day brings a new venture. As the fates would have it, he would be frequenting the breeding center yet again. The leopard was growing familiar with the facility and the services which it provided.. And seeing what manner of creatures people brought with them to that place. One species in particular, lotine, struck his fancy actually. With a bit of research and inquiry, he'd come to learn that lotine could be bred within the facility and harvested for lola! While he did have a lola already at the garden, he found them to be fascinating creatures. As he did most in his collection. The immature form of lotine were distinct from their mature counterparts, floating through the air and communicating their emotions in subtle waves to those around them.. He did want to research them more fully. And so he decided to try his hand at coaxing his own colorful lotine, Valii, to the facility.

One of the bigger conundrums was getting the lotine to the building. She was too big to carry, as he would pachee. Musing on it, he figured the serpentine creature could fare just fine on land, though they wouldn't be getting anywhere any time fast. Xentus sighed. A wagon would be in order. He stepped away from the pond and went to make arrangements..
It took a good bit of effort to haul the lotine into the cabin. Valii squirmed in protest despite the leopard's attempts to coo and shush her. He disliked having to essentially man-handle the serpent, but there was little other way he was getting her to the facility that he could think of. There were those bonding collars.. But that meant making another trip to that salesman sooner than he'd find comfortable. This would do for now, it was already decided.
"Shh.. Xentus apologizes, Valii. Please bear with him", he pleaded as the lotine squirmed in his grip.

It didn't help that she was slick with water from the pond. And her tendrils were flapping about, slapping his face on occasion. But with one last spirited heave, the creature was coiled into the cabin. Xentus sighed in relief now that one of the harder parts were over. The lotine was more of a garden decoration for him than anything. It was a perceptive, intelligent being that he preferred to treat with respect - and give the appropriate amount of space to. But, well.. Perhaps this would be a bonding experience? They weren't starting on the right foot, but once they were at the facility, he was sure to treat her well.
"The hard part is over, Valii", he gently told the sullen looking lotine, "We shall be on the way now." His gentle assurance seemed to fall on deaf ears. Valii's pitch black eyes stared hard at his form for a momment before accepting this as her life now.. Her head tucked down into her coils.

He couldn't help but to feel a little guilty.. But it was what must be done. Xentus gave the signal to the driver to ferry them away and the wagon started moving. On the trip to the facility, the leopard mused on different things he might try to get Valii's affections. Perhaps just some casual bonding time, keeping her fed, teaching her name, maybe some little tricks. He wasn't exactly sure how to win over a lotine. They were somehow mysterious to him.
Before long, they had arrived to the facility. The wagon was arranged so that they'd be available for the return trip when they were finished. Hopefully this process didn't take long. Xentus was mostly dry as he entered the facility to do the paperwork. The attendant made a note that the lotine ponds were out around the back, separated by fences as they were territorial. Somehow, despite that being the most sensible, he had the thought that lotine would also get ferried into the playrooms for pachee and orbaru..

With the paperwork complete, it was time to get Valii out of the wagon.. He had the driver wheel them to the ponds in the back. Each little plot was like a tiny garden; a pond surrounded by lush greenery. It was an impressive sight, he took a few mental notes for his own garden. Hopefully Valii would find it accommodating enough. Xentus opened the wagon door and did his best to garner the serpent's attention. She was still coiled into a tight ball.. But after a minute of continuing her sulking, her head peeked out from under her tail, eyes falling upon the sight of the pond. It might not have been home, but being back in the water sounded much more comfortable than being in this stuffy wooden carriage. The lotine slinked out of the cabin and dove immediately into the water, her colorful form disappearing into the shallow depths.

Even though lotine were most comfortable in the water, they weren't aquatic or even amphibious as far as he knew. They needed air to breathe. But They could certainly stay under the water comfortably for a long period.. He'd be in for a wait. There was little that could test his near endless patience, thankfully. As such, he would be here for as long as it took. But while he was waiting, he procured the enriching drops from his pack and poured a drop of the liquid into the pond. Whether or not it helped, he wasn't sure. He then added a pellet of fertilizer for good measure as well. Ideally, he'd also feed Valii some fish, but that was something she'd need to go without for now. He did have some blueberries to offer her to try to earn her forgiveness.. When she was ready, of course. Xentus hummed, sitting at the water's edge waiting for the lotine to surface.

The water distorted the sound, but the humming did reach the lotine's ears. Valii coiled herself at the bottom of the pond, head pointed at the light blue mammalian sitting there. She was upset with him. It was confusing why he had brought had her. Was she being dumped into the care of another yet again? His humming was nice. Where was this? The questions floated about her mind, but the train of thought was interrupted by that humming.
Almost against her will, she could feel get own song rising in her throat. Trying to catch the melody. Trying to hum along. Her coils loosened, her arms paddling herself gingerly toward the shallow surface. She was still mad. But singing was nice. The conflicted feeling prevented the lotine from outright surfacing and facing the leopard, but for now, this was good enough. Lurking just below the world of air, staring up at that strange man in this strange place.

Xentus to vaguely make out her form below the water, his head tilting curiously at what the serpent was doing down there. But as soon as he thought he made eye contact with Valii, her form disappeared once again. His humming was interrupted by a sighing exhale. This was fine, she would come up when she wanted. But he could've sworn he heard a melody pitching in from within the water. Curious.. But he resigned himself to waiting and watching, hum echoing from his throat to fill the air. It was almost funny how such a colorful lotine could disappear into the pond so easily. No matter how he scanned through the water, he couldn't find her shape again. Ah.. Perhaps this wasn't shaping out to be the best experience so far. First step forward into something new was always a little shaky. This reasoning sat well with him as he mused on it and his venture here.

It would get better with time. That's what he concluded as he twirled his fingers around a vine leaf curling about the fencing. He was occupying his hands and eyes with whatever plant was nearby, to hopefully seem innocuous enough if the lotine happened to look at him. She seemed to shy away from more direct contact. He couldn't blame her after the way she was handled to get here. The pang of guilt twisted his gut. Ah.. What was the saying? It was easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission? An uneasy smile furled his lip. He didn't exactly like the phrase, but it seemed to suit this particular moment.
He hadn't been keeping track of time, but eventually, the sounds he thought he was hearing from the water became louder. It was a soft wailing voice. Mournful, even. His ear flicked toward the pond to listen more clearly, head turning just barely so that he could see through his peripheral vision.

Just a head, some eyes, and a blossoming flower peeking up above the surface. She was staring at him, he could feel it. Xentus did his best to pretend he hadn't noticed Valii, returning his attention back to the vine leaf he was thumbing. Her head cocked curiously at the mammalian, trying to discern what he was up to exactly. She wasn't dumped off to the hands of another, otherwise he wouldn't still be here, right? Her expression was no longer sullen, though traces of wariness were still to be found should one pay close attention. But now that her voice was clear in the air, they together hummed a song with no particular rhythm. It brought a relieved smile to the leopard's muzzle. And gingerly, he turned his head to look at her, offering a gentle expression. Valii's upper body lay on the grass lining the pond, head laying on her paws. She was still a little upset but.. She could come to forgive him.

A very dark Lola appears, quite the opposite of the Lotine it came from
