It had been a while since the leopard had last taken Valii to the breeding facility. With his busy schedule, there was little time for it. Perhaps to the relief of the rainbow-pelted serpent, too. Her last trip to the facility wasn't exactly a pleasant one. Well, the trip there. As would be the same this time as well. A wagon wasn't the coziest environment for such a creature.. Worse yet, the lotine didn't yet trust the pale blue leopard much; coming to know him merely as the food giver and caretaker of the garden surrounding her pond. His company was only fine when he had food to offer. And not so fine when he was the source of discomfort in a cramped wooden wagon.. Sullen black eyes stared hard at the man, the look being returned with an apologetic gaze. He'd... Need to come up with a better way to transport the lotine in the future..

Now, if he ever came to properly train that thundergug of his.. Why, it would make a splendid beast of burden. The blackhorn was a perfect animal for use as a cargo carrier, and he did have plans to teach it so.. But there was so much else to do already! Ah, city life was so busy. He enjoyed it so; it kept his rampant wanderlust in check. He did less 'time finding' and more rather let the day decide his choice of whatever creature to engage with. Lately this had been golems, but the 'fun' with them had petered out since he had achieved his major goals with them. The glass and plant elements were now under his control, and he could decidedly call himself the master of elements, more or less. To be the master of other beasts, such as the lotine.. That would take some work. The serpentine creature huffed, showing its displeasure in this particular situation.

"Hold on a little longer, dear Valii. Our arrival should be soon enough", the leopard cooed quietly to the lotine, an apologetic look plastered on his face. As he understood, lotine were very expressive creatures. More beings than beast, and cared for a gentle touch and hospitality. He was guilty of lacking much of the latter, treating the serpent as any other beast in his grans menagerie. A force of habit, though it wasn't like he didn't show her any respect. It.. Might not have shown in this very moment, but he did respect her! At the moment he was just guilty of wanting to produce lola. The last budded flower grew into a healthy, black and red lola which he found rather interesting. It was as if it budded from Valii's tendrils, which were shaded in those very colors. Xentus wasn't exactly sure what exactly influenced the lola produced, and was keen on researching this.

There was plenty of research done on lola production already, but apparently the 'quality' of lola depended on the nature and nurture of the lotine itself. The nature of Valii.. Well, she was a special production from the labs, from when he knew. He'd purchased her from a gardener who couldn't care for her any longer, happy enough to add her as the centerpiece of his own garden. The nurture of her, however.. He felt like he took good care of her, but didn't spent much time with the serpent aside from feedings. And there were special fish that were favored by the lotine when producing budding lola, which he had to look into garnering in the future. So, with her current state, he expected her to yield lower 'quality' lola overall. Now, to test the theory. Month by month, taking her to the facility to produce a bud and seeing what results.

There was little control, so he didn't call this a scientific study by any stretch. Just personal observations which may or may not come to help others in the future. He was happy with that. And hopefully, this endeavor would soon have him develop a closer bond with the serpent. Their current status was none too favorable, unfortunately. A clawed hand slowly reached to give the creature a reassuring pat on its long body. The gesture went largely ignored. The black-eyed stare persisted still, another puffy huff escaping Valii. Ah.. Well, favor comes with time. Xentus averted his eyes to the wagon window, watching as their destination came into view. That was a relief.. The carriage came to a stop and the leopard let himself out, thanking the driver with the dip of his head. Just needed to register and have Valii settled into a pond. The driver went ahead to cart the lotine around back, leaving the mammalian man to his business.

The facility was quiet today. There was hardly any other souls within the main lobby, save for the attendant. Odd, considering how busy it usually is around here. Perhaps he wasn't the only one tied up this time of year. At least this meant faster processing for himself. Not that the lotine ponds were of great interest to many anyway. The leopard was quick to file away his paperwork, becoming seasoned in this process by this point. Since it had been over a month since his last visit with Valii here, he was cleared to have her produce a lola again. For the health of the animal (plant?), they were only allowed a single monthly budding. Fair enough, he supposed. Before long, Xentus rounded the building and met up with his awaiting lotine in the wagon. The driver didn't deal in handling other people's animals. "Alright, ready, Valii?", he asked the serpent, hands at the ready to grab her.

The lotine already seemed defeated. Her attempts at squirming away from his grasp were weak. Her main form of defiance toward the mammalian was that cold, hard stare, which threatened to pierce into his soul. To have the enmity of a lotine could not have been a good omen. But at least there was little physical struggle, which he deemed a win. Hoisting her out of the cabin was easier, and soon she was within the comfort of the facility pond. Xentus breathed a sigh of relief. He passed a thanks to the wagon driver once again, then turned his attention to the sullen serpent. Or he would have, if there was one to give attention to. Valii disappeared under the watery depths, her rainbowed form disappearing. For such a bright creature, he didn't expect her to blend in so well. Perhaps that was the plus of having all colors on the pelt?

Sometimes he wished his own fur weren't so brightly hued. Pale blue and purple didn't blend in with anything, except perhaps a poorly painted wall. The leopard glanced down at the fur adorning his forearm briefly, then shook his head. Ah, no need to dwell though. There were so many different kinds of peoples in this city that he hardly felt out of place. Those who he'd met here seemed to be pleasant enough in his brief encounters. Though, nothing beat the company of his animals. The man's gaze shifted, looking longingly into the ponds waters. He supposed he had to make amends with Valii. A couple of fertilizing drops into the water, and some pellets into the soil to condition the environment, then, a gift of fruit at the water's edge. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing to show some kind of apology. With hope, the wagon ordeal wouldn't have put too much of a dampen on the lotine's mood.

It didn't take long for the serpent to rise to the surface. Those black eyes were locked onto him to start with, perhaps never losing sight of him to begin with. And his own eyes were apologetic and soft, begging for forgiveness. No words were spoken. Just a locked stare until one or the other gave out. Xentus was firm in holding his gaze for nearly half a minute, then gave up with a sigh. He tried to direct the serpent to the diced strawberry.. Which worked. Somewhat. Valii's stare finally broke, glancing down at the fruit for a moment. She heaved her upper body out of the water, leaving her long tail supported by the liquid so that she could eat somewhat comfortably. But not before squirting a jet of water at the man from her mouth. Xentus's ears flattened out, a grimace plastered on his muzzle. He.. Supposed he deserved that.

And somehow, he thought he heard a laugh. Confused, he looked around to check for anyone around. Did Haru hitch a ride or something? That was odd.. The guilt must have been hitting way too hard for him to think he somehow heard a giggle. The leopard shrugged it off, then shrugged off the water soaking his fur. He'd noticed the lotine looking rather sly.. But perhaps he just wanted to think her so. Lotine didn't make much noise from his experience with Valii. But there was some documented research that they could sing or hum or something of that sort. A song reserved for those lucky enough to have the love and trust of their lotine, he supposed. Ah, maybe one day he'd hear this rainbow-pelted serpent sing. Of all the creature calls he'd heard, none were exactly beautiful. The grand beasts in his care weren't such delicate types. A hum escaped the man. A new goal emerged.
