But then, she heard a faint noise- the sound of claws scrabbling against rock. She heard whatever it was scamper away, away from her. Well, it looked like she just wasn't going to have any luck today. Then, she heard what... almost sounded like a giggle. Then a sharp pain erupted on the back of her head, sending her wheeling forward. She yelped loudly and clutched the back of her head, reeling. What was that? She looked around and saw a pebble rolling on the ground in front of her. Someone had chucked a rock at her! She picked it up, examining it. It wasn't that big, about the size of a quarter. Still, it had been lobbed with enough force that Fiera could still feel the back of her head pulsing. She checked it briefly with her fingers and hissed as it stung. She drew them away to find that the blow hadn't drawn blood, but it sure felt like it had. "Alright." Fiera said, her anger bubbling up in her chest. Her ears flattened back and she could feel the fur on her tail prickling and puffing up. "I bet you think you're real funny, huh." She continued, a low growl bubbling up in her throat as she tossed the rock up and down in her hand, holding it up for the perpetrator to see. She was answered by a high pitch giggle, echoing from one of the holes around the top of the cave. The holes were slim and over a dozen feet up, far too high and the walls far too slick for her to climb up to. The echo made it impossible for her to tell which of them the giggle came from, anyway. "Yeah!" The voice replied, in a high pitched and childish tone of voice.

Fiera glared up at the ceiling in the absence of having a little kid draconic to glare at. It was a good thing, to be honest- Fiera's death glare could crack ribs at a distance of thirty feet. Who knew what sort of damage it could do to a child. Her lip curled up. "Didn't anyone ever teach you to respect your elders? You'd think Acethylka would know better." She hissed, casting a glance back at the tunnel leading to the cave where she knew the clutch guardian was. A response soon came from the ceiling again. "Elders? Ohhh, so you're super old, huh?" It chirped. Fiera's tail puffed up to full irritation, now. "Wh- no! I'm not! I'm young and so very nubile, thank you very much!" She hissed. The chorus simply erupted into giggles again, and Fiera finally realized that she was definitely talking to more than one draconic here. She heard the distinct scrabble-scrabble of claws on rock again, thinks time echoing lower and lower along the cave walls until she saw a small group of shadows in the yawning mouth of one of the nearby tunnels. Taking a few tentative steps forward, she perked her ears to hear what was going on inside.
"You go!" "Nuh uh, she's scary! You go!" "She's like, tiny!" "We're tiny!" "No I'm not!" Ah, so childish bickering then, Fiera realized. It continued on for a few moments as Fiera crept closer until a third voice finally sighed loudly and said "Ok, I'll go." and a young Shalaya hatchling emerged from the darkness. It's wings flared out in surprise- it clearly wasn't expecting Fiera to have gotten so close. It... was a shalaya, right? Fiera had looked up some information on draconics before she came here, and she was pretty sure that that was what the sparkly ones with long antennae were called.

It was definitely different in color from the ones she had seen in the various books though. Instead of the usual pale coloration that most shalaya sported, it was a deep purple, with darker blue tips on its wings. "...Hello." It said hesitantly. "Sup." Fiera replied. "Don't suppose you're here to apologize for lobbing a rock at my head, huh?" The hatchling blinked once and replied "Nope." "What?!" Fiera screeched, angry again. "Cuz I didn't THROW the rock." It said again, shuffling its feet awkwardly. "That was sister's fault." It said, gesturing with its tail. "What!" Fiera heard from further in the cave, and a second shalaya hatchling dashed out, throwing herself at her sibling. "Jerk! Way to throw me under the stampede!" She said, yanking at her sibling's antennae with all the fury that a creature the size of a housecat could summon. It wasn't a lot, and the effort reminded Fiera of adorable puppies. "In my defense!" The hatchling said, sitting up all of a sudden. "You made a really, REALLY funny noise." Fiera sighed, her exasperation draining at least somewhat. She could appreciate the hatchling sticking to her guns, on some level.
She turned to look for the third voice she had heard, peering into the gloom of the smaller tunnel. "What do you think, then? Was it funny?" Fiera said, resting her hand on her chin. "Uhh..." She heard, and saw the third hatchling begin to creep out from the cave. "I mean it was pretty funny, and a really good hit. We were way up there! But uhm, it was also kind of mean and we probably shouldn't have done it maybe. Cuz now we're in trouble and also you got hurt." The hatchling said, curling and unfurling its tail nervously, refusing to meet Fiera's gaze.

Fiera smoothed down her tail again, her anger draining away. "Well... it was a good hit, wasn't it." She said, a little embarrassed about her outburst. In her defense though, she did have a rock thrown at her head. Now that all three of the hatchlings were before her, she could see the differences between them. The first was a dark purple and blue shalaya as mentioned, its sibling was blue in the body and pink at the wing tips, and the third hatchling- which she had just now met- was an entirely different breed! It was wingless, with purple and pink flamelike tufts along its back- or perhaps they really were flames? She was pretty sure the breed was called 'Makiyan', but it was hard to tell with all of these strange colors to them. It was pretty easy to tell which one was which, despite the similar colors. The shalaya with the pink tips was brash and impulse, the one with blue tips was calmer, but blunt, and the makiyan was the only one that seemed to think about what they were saying before anything came out of their mouth.
"So, uh... what's your names?" Fiera said awkwardly, trying to make conversation. The trio looked at each other, thinking amongst themselves for a moment. Then, all three of them seemed to speak at once. "We don't really get those here. Only when we're older." The blue tipped shalaya said. "I want a name! But uh, I don't think we're allowed to pick them for ourselves." Said the Makiyan, trailing off quietly at the end of its sentence. "I'M BONECRUSHER THE GREAT." Shouted the pink tipped shalaya, as loudly as she could. "No you're not!" The blue tipped one hissed at her, starting yet another childish argument amongst them.

Acethylka had been watching the individual, and was quite surprised to see them hit it off with not only one hatchling, but three of them! They were of course, three lovely siblings, so it was probably best that they be kept together, since they had been here so long together anyway. Especially since they did well with one individual... A brand new clan, how nice? The draconic moves over to where the trio are playing with the individual and states. "Woah there, young ones." To get their attentions. "Would you three like to go with this person?" It would be nice to clear out the rookery of their antics... But she was convinced that this was the correct home for them, otherwise she'd be more than willing to let them continue their stay here.
It was in their clutches now, however, to decide.

The humanish watched them bicker for a moment, her anger having fully faded away and been replaced by amusement. "Ah, I see. So you might not have names... but which of you is it?" They paused for a moment, looking up at her with bafflement. Then, she nudged the purple and blue shalaya with her foot. "Oh, looks like it's you!" She said, and its siblings stared at it vacantly. "...GET HIM!" the pink tipped shalaya screeched (ah, so it was a boy, then), and the other two hatchlings bolted after the 'it' shalaya as he zoomed through the cavern. All three of them screeched with joy as they played tag, tumbling over themselves in their eagerness to chase or get away from each other. After a certain point the shalaya pair zoomed up toward the ceiling to the makiyan's dismay, but just as soon fluttered back down to the ground. Fiera sat on a nearby rock, cheering on whoever appeared to be winning at the time. She had to admit, it was quite entertaining- she could watch this all day.
She slowly realized that she didn't really have all day, though. Acethylka would likely be expecting her to make a selection soon. Fiera hadn't even seen any other hatchlings in the caves yet- they must be further in. And yet... she couldn't help but admit that she found these three charming. They certainly seemed clever and surprisingly well spoken for children, that was for sure. There could be 'better' draconics elsewhere, but could you really describe a person in terms of better or worse? All she knew was that these kids had no parents raising them and no names to speak of, and she could provide that. (And on a smaller note, they were very cute and Fiera was a little bit of a sucker for that.)
As if on cue though, Acethylka walked back in, interrupting Fiera's train of thought and the hatchlings' play. It would appear that she had been watching them the whole time- and Fiera hadn't even noticed, what with how busy she was with getting rocks thrown at her head. The siblings skidded to a stop in front of the guardian, and looked at each other and then Fiera. She raised her hands up defensively. "Hey, I'd be happy to have you, but it's your decision." She said. Then, they seemed to commune amongst themselves for a moment before turning to Acethylka. "Yeah, sure!" They chirped, practically in chorus. It looked like Fiera's caves were going to be a little fuller than usual tonight.

Well, that was certainly a good thing! The trio wanted to go with the person, and the person seemed to be quite okay. She tilted her head and then exclaimed- "Grand! You three may go with this individual." It was always nice to see what sort of person the hatchlings would choose, and perhaps it was fitting that all three decided to go with this person. They were quite close, after all!

It was time. With the library finally becoming more established, the canyon home was starting to feel a little empty. Nobody felt that more strongly than Zinyong, apparently. Perhaps she was regretting not having any hatchlings of her own, or maybe she just needed a bit more company. Keeping that in mind, Silver left Quin under the watchful eye of Kitkoku and wandered down to the Rookery. Their understanding was that anyone could adopt a hatchling from the Rookery if they wanted, so they thought they would give it a try.
It was a bit overwhelming as they stepped into the protected cavern. They could feel their heart beating in their ears. They closed their eyes and took a deep breath. It was going to be okay. Silver slowly opened their eyes and approached the nearest Draconic they could find. 'They are just like Koda, and you can talk to Koda,' they thought to themselves.
"Ah, hello, um, I am hoping to, ah, adopt? I would like to adopt a hatchling. Is that okay? Can you tell me who is in charge of adoptions?"

Thank the gods for spells of teleportation. It would have been impossible to make the trip here and back in a day otherwise. He was sure Ichaival would scold him for it later, but no matter; it wasn't the first time he had faced down one of Chai's scoldings, and he was sure it wouldn't be the last. It took him a little time to find the right place. He had been to these canyons once or twice, for reconnaissance, but he was no native, and it was still dreadfully easy to get turned around. But once he found it, there could be no mistaking it, especially not with the sound of laughing children filling the air. Clapping himself on the cheeks twice for nerve and good luck, he walked into the grotto. And was immediately greeted by the sight of a very large dragon. If it weren't for his particular upbringing, he might have balked right then and there; but as it was, he simply grinned and said, "Are you the one I speak to? About, you know, finding a friend or two in these parts?"

Kadin had just recently rediscovered the canyons and the greeting he'd gotten upon returning had been... Enthusiastic, to say the least. He'd been immediately overwhelmed, both by adults seeking to check him over to see how he was doing after having "been gone for so long", adults fussing over him and looking over his shoulder as if they had been expecting someone else, and being scolded very loudly, and at great length, about how disappointed others were that he'd been gone for so long.
It was. A lot to take in, to put it mildly. Kadin had figured that he needed something to divert all of the draconic attention if he was ever going to be able to walk through the canyons without being mobbed. Not his best idea, he'd probably admit that himself, but it was worth a shot to bring in new blood and see if it maybe distracted certain... individuals. For a little while. Right?
So, here he was. Wandering into the nests and looking, almost desperately, at the matron in charge. "Hello. I hear you have hatchlings that need homes?"

It was going to be a good day at the Rookery. She just knew it. Acethylka waited patiently at the entrance to the Rookery to see if anyone might stop by today. To her surprise, she had quite a few visitors today, one after the other.
She smiled at Silver who seemed very unsure. "My name is Acethylka," she said. "Please follow me, I will show you around." Then she did just that, leading them into the cavern and showing them which Draconic hatchlings were available for adoption.
The next person to come by, Linyü, spoke with more confidence. She liked that. "Yes I am," she said with a nod. She gestured for him to follow her and led him to the meeting area. "Here is where you may find your new friend, please let me know when you are ready."
The last potential adopter of the day was Kadin. "Yes, we do," she said. "I can show them to you now." As she always did, Acethylka brought the person back into the cavern and showed them around, then watched them to see if they formed a bond with any of the hatchlings.
[Everyone: please roleplay with the hatchlings to get to know then, and let Acethylka know when you feel like you are ready to adopt. (With an OOC note so we can see it, thank you!)]

"Great! Thanks!" Seveth grinned at the dragon who ushered him in. She seemed like a good sort, calm and motherly, though he didn't really know much about mothers, so maybe he was just imagining it. Right after he came in, there was someone else for her to attend to, so he got out of her way and wandered deeper into the cavern.
Inside, there were hatchlings aplenty, and quite a few half-grown individuals. There were even a few that must have been adults, though these stuck to their own groups near the fringes of the space. A few lifted their heads to look at him, but none with any real interest.
The young ones weren't so reserved. At once what seemed like the lot of them bounded over to him, some nearly bowling him over in their enthusiasm. "Did you come to play?" said a pale one, whirling around him.

Her words were soon taken up in a chorus by the others. "Play, play, play!" they said, bouncing around him and tugging him this way and that. Seveth laughed, though in truth now he was finding himself a little out of his depth. He didn't mind dragons, not at all, but he didn't actually have a lot of hands on experience with kids.
But then, Ichaival was always going on about how immature he was. So maybe handling kids was just a matter of doing things he would have liked to see himself. So, putting on his best showman's smile, he said, "Nope! I'm here on a mission, actually. Think you can help me out?" He spoke to the pale floating dragonet, since she seemed the most well-spoken of this lot. He was given to understand that not all Draconics had speech, or the opportunity to learn it, at any rate.

The dragonets looked among each other, and in that look, some sort of information was exchanged - some sort of agreement was formed. The pale one spoke. "Okay, we'll help. But you gotta do something for us first," she said. She spoke with a projected bravado, but he could sense the wariness in her eyes too, as though she understood that she was small and had no real power over him.
Seveth laughed again, trying not to let any nervousness creep into his voice. "What do you want me to do?" he said, carefully not agreeing to anything until he heard their terms.
The pale dragonet gave a twitch of her wings that might have been a shrug. "Something," she said. "I don't know. Something fun." The gazes of the other dragonets were hungry - not the sort of hunger sated by food. Entertainment, he realized, must have been a scarcity here.
