It really didn't surprise Seveth at this point when no one bothered to help him up. He got that attitude plenty at home too. Ichaival helped sometimes, but not if it thought he deserved what he got, and Roku preferred to just observe with vague amusement in that feline way of his... Seveth sighed, rolled over, and pushed himself back to his feet. He eyed the Murp warily while it swished its tail, wholly unrepentant.
"Just for that, I'm not going to feed you," Seveth said to it, as sternly as he could.
"I'm telling you, they're full of schemes," said Gilly, still hiding, but peering balefully out over the fence. "No, hey, don't feed them! You're only going to encourage their bad behavior!" This last protest was for the other Shalaya.
A thought occurred to Seveth, and he said, "You know, I don't think we introduced ourselves. I'm Linyü, and that's Gilly over there."

Subei dumped the lot of food onto the ground right in front of Gilly despite her voicing her displeasure. He wanted to prove to her that they were totally harmless and cute. However, as soon as his claws let go of the food, they all swarmed over him, knocking him back and pushing each other around. The way the little herd acted, it was as if nobody had ever fed them in their entire lives, though that was surely not true.
Not wanting to be trampled, he threw himself backwards. In all the fuss, he almost slapped the human with his long tail, but luckily for both of them it didn't connect. He swirled around to face him as if he had intended to do all of that from the start.
"Right, right! I'm Subei, kin of Kai. It's nice to meet you," he said. Then he paused for a moment, looked over his shoulder and said, "Have you two had much of a chance to look around yet?"

When Subei came charging towards her with a whole load of food, Gilly yelped and scrambled even further away. The Murp didn't bother with her, especially since there was a fence between them and herself, but she still breathed a sigh of relief when they homed in on the food. At which point she remembered Subei and what he just tried to do.
"Hey! That was really dangerous, you know!" Even Subei himself had almost gotten flattened by the horde. She even gave Seveth a 'told you so' look when Subei's tail nearly beaned him, as if this only proved her point.
"Whoa!" said Seveth, ducking to avoid getting clocked in the head. But the whole spectacle of it was pretty funny, so he couldn't find it in himself to be fussed about it. "No," he said, in answer to Subei's question. "We just got here, and this was the first pen we hit. Have you gone through most of the zoo already?"

While he was perfectly friendly, Subei did not make a habit of being careful. The whole encounter with the Murps and the human had turned into a slapstick comedy sketch. He really wasn't used to interacting with things smaller than him and it showed. Nonetheless, he continued to grin like an overexcited child at the antics of the fluffy creatures.
"Oh, me too!" Subei said. "How funny, we both started in the same place. Between you and me, I bet they planned it that way." He winked as if that statement were particularly clever.
He was admittedly starting to get a bit bored of the Murp. They were cute enough, but he was sure there would be more to see. "I think I might go over there, to see what's in that pen, if you'd like you can come with me," he grinned again. "You never know, it might even be a super dangerous predator, but for real this time!"

"How diabolical," muttered Gilly, apparently now fully convinced of the Murps' evil intent. "They were hoping that this would be enough to finish us off, before we could discover the terrible secrets within..." Seveth wondered if it was even worth trying to correct her at this point. Weren't these floaty types supposed to be intellectuals...? Ah well, it wasn't any of his business.
"We'd love to come with you. Wouldn't we, Gilly?" said Seveth. He couldn't really speak for her, since she was just staying with him temporarily, and they weren't really family, but she didn't seem to object to it. In fact, she looked as if she were mulling the idea over.
"... I guess there's safety in numbers," she conceded. "But you guys come out first. I'm not going in there."
It was a little like dealing with a kid, actually. Seveth wondered how old either of them were, actually. Still, it was easier to comply than to argue, especially since they were leaving the Murps behind anyway.

Subei was starting to wonder if Gilly was being serious with her paranoia. She didn't actually think that the Murps were out to get them, did she? He chose to believe that she was just being incredibly goofy, instead. That was easier to wrap his head around.
"Excellent!" Subei said cheerfully. He was glad to have made some friends, especially since none of his kin had wanted to come with him. He liked having someone to hang out with, even if he insisted to his kin that he didn't mind being alone.
He floated up over the edge of the fence and turned back to check that the human had followed him. Then he quickly remembered that humans couldn't fly. Would he manage the gate alright?
"Better get out while they're distracted!" Subei called out. "You never know what diabolical little things could do once you turn your back on them." He chuckled to himself, not intending to mock Gilly, only to participate in the game he thought they were both playing.

Contrary to Subei's concerns, Seveth navigated the gate just fine. He may not have been a dab hand at knife juggling or making a home cooked meal, but a gate couldn't defeat the likes of him. Once he was past it, Gilly began ushering him onward at once, taking Subei's words to heart. "My thoughts exactly," she said. "We'd best hurry before they get wise to our escape."
By this point Seveth had given up on the idea of correcting her. It was almost funnier to watch, actually.
"Look," he said. "They've got those... chickens over there. What were they called again?" Chickens, surely, wouldn't appear so threatening to Gilly... or so Seveth thought, anyway, until he got a little closer to the pen and could read the writing on the sign. It proclaimed, 'C.O.D. aka Chickens of Doom'.
... Who came up with the names of these creatures anyway?

Honestly, Subei was always fascinated by creatures who couldn't fly. How did they ever get anywhere? It seemed entirely inefficient, especially in a place like the canyon where the elevation could change dramatically with no notice. He watched Kogoro do it, sure, but they were much bigger and tougher than a human. Whatever the case, he didn't want to be left behind, so he diligently floated after his new friends until they came across a new pen full of something weird.
"Chickens?" he asked. He tilted his head and looking into the pen. Staring back at him were the clueless eyes of many large birds. They were covered in feathers, which was just the kind of thing Subei could understand. They did look a bit plump for a flying creature, though. Weren't birds usually... sleeker?
"Hey so," he looked at Linyü very pointedly and asked in a very serious tone, "What is a chicken, anyway?"

Seveth blinked at Subei's question. "Do you not have livestock here...? Oh, but I guess maybe chickens are a bit small for your tastes, huh?" They didn't have lab creatures here, but he figured they must have some form of meat animal that they at least hunted; the Draconics he'd seen didn't really look as if they had the dental hardware to be herbivores.
He was just as glad that Subei hadn't noticed the 'of Doom' part written on the sign. He was hoping to keep it that way. He didn't know what Subei would make of it, but it certainly wouldn't have helped Gilly's state of mind.
"Oh, I know this one," said Gilly. "They're a domesticated breed of bird primarily used for their meat and eggs. Apparently they can fly, just not very well." She peered at the specimen on display in the pen. "Maybe the books were talking about some thinner individuals."

While Subei understood that Draconics ate meat, his sheltered upbringing meant that he rarely had to think about it or where it came from. He understood it on an intellectual level, of course, but staring at a fluffy-feathered creature and realizing it was meat was another thing entirely. "Livestock, right," Subei said with a quick nod.
After a brief pause, he added, "We mostly eat fish." He wasn't sure if he was trying to justify not knowing what a chicken was or not, but he felt the need to say something.
Subei was surprised to find that Gilly knew exactly what a chicken was, and that they could fly. Was he the only one that didn't know? It was a rare occurrence for him, and he didn't like the way it felt. He chose not to dwell on it, and instead commented about their flying abilities. "You never know," he chuckled at his own joke before he could finish it, "they could be masters of magical flight, after all."

Privately Seveth was pretty sure at this point that Subei was just messing with her, but that didn't stop Gilly from taking his words at face value. "... You're right," she said, seeming suddenly convinced of yet another terrible truth. "Magic. That must be it. We hear so much about how the people in that city are perverting the practice of magic. It would be like them to make that kind of abomination."
As one of the supposed magic perverts, Seveth didn't know how to feel about that. Or maybe elementals didn't count... though he rather doubted that one, honestly.
"Let's just... head in and see," he proposed. Normally he wasn't keen on farm animals himself, but he felt that it was more important for Gilly not to go too much further with her speculation. "These guys are nice and friendly, aren't they? I hear if you hold out your arms, some will even come in for a hug."
