> Xentus, alone.
The ingredients to craft the door to magic were within his hands now. Crystals of fire, one of mind, and berries to soothe the flesh and soul. That was all it took. It was.. Surprisingly underwhelming, in a way. Everything he had were items he gathered through trade. Minus the one crystal he'd mined up himself. An amused smile gently lifted a corner of his mouth as he climbed the steps of the cold temple. All things considered, the work he had to do was still there - enabling him to enact the trades in the first place. His efforts were simply divergent from the idea of toiling away in the mines for months on end to garner the necessary ingredients. He'd done well to research what he could on how to use these things, and the only part which worried him was the fact a piece of his very soul needed to be shed. A worthy price to pay though, he figured. He never imagined that he'd take this road when he traveled to the city. The pursuit of magic.. This was exciting.

Xentus was in no hurry here. The walk up the steps was slow; broken with several pauses as he gleaned the walls for information on how to perform the ritual. The carvings had imagery of blood-letting, soul-rending, and prayers to forces watching from above. Curious.. The leopard wondered if Kalixka would listen to his desire for arcane power. He held his goddess of nature in high regard - it would be strange to pray his wishes to some other.. Though, he'd send this wish to any god, goddess, or spirit that would listen and answer. Curiosity was his driving force here. To experience magic firsthand. To see how it felt to hold such power. The fury of fire was not a force to be trifled with. Coming from the desert, he had a certain respect for heat and the flames of the sun. To own a part of that sounded like it suited him quite well.

The object of his true goals were in the realm of order, however. Something about the idea of control sounded appealing. But taking the first step with the path set in the elements was just as appealing. And perhaps more useful for his near goals.. Xentus sighed and brought his excitement down. He did need to actually perform this ritual before getting ahead of himself. There was no telling how this would turn out or if he'd even be granted what he desired. The leopard continued to climb the steps. Until he reached the top. The altar loomed before him. He could feel the eyes of the watchers on the thrones staring through him. Part of him wanted to speak. To stake his claim here for wanting arcane power. But his words would not be for them anyway. They were for the forces above them - all of them. His resolve was strong. He stepped forward.

One thing that all should know when taking this path was that they are neither the first to come, nor would they be the last. Xentus was one of many. And so he carried on unfaltering, hardly giving any notion that he would seek something from the watchers. No sympathy, no worry, no comfort. He breathed in and focused on his task. He called upon his own research and the etching on the walls and began. The fire crystals were placed atop the stone slab, joined by a single prismatic to fill the void. Their combined pulsing magics felt even stronger now that they were all joined in this sacred place. Then he placed the vessel for this magic, the mind crystal. It was already taking on a reddish hue as the fury of fire latched onto it. The man stared for a second at the assorted items, wondering if he had any doubts about this..

But none came to mind. The man pressed on, placing the healing berry in his mouth and held it there for but a second before bearing down. Its sweet juices were the only comfort here. With a deep breath, he took the dagger up and held it to his palm. With a sharp breath in and clenched teeth, the leopard cut into his own flesh, letting his crimson blood drip onto the stone altar before him. Each item on its surface was gifted a drop. The fiery red crystals became redder. The prismatic crystal twisted its hue to match them. And the one of mind seemed to burn brighter with a swell of collected energy. His vision blurred at this point. The soul-rending began. It was like an ember searing his heart at first, enough to bear with as he began his prayer. Then the intensity increased until it was like a wildfire raging from within, threatening to burn his body and mind from the inside out. While he would've liked to persist through this, he soon gave up; letting his mind and body shut down and spare his psyche from the worst of the pain. The man collapsed.
