He'd read a book on gardening at one point, and planting seeds in high summer usually didn't bear anything, but these were winter bearing vegetables. Stuff like roots and such he can dig up at another point and have Mira help him with that. A while ago, he'd been working on having her hold onto items and give them back to him. Or was it trying to plant seeds with him. The panilla clings to his fur as they descend the narrow fire escape staircase outside his apartment to reach the stairs to go into the little vegetable garden out back. Mira loves this place; she springs off of her ride, making a mad dash around the perimeter before scurrying back to him, bounding up on his leg for a moment, springing off like a spring board and going again. He should get her an exercise wheel or something, because all he got form this hyperactivity was joy joy wheeee. 41

Let her play. Its been a while since we've been in the garden together he tells himself, watching the pale fluffy squirrel of his best friend zoom around the small garden at a speed he probably could match but racing in a small area might make this difficult terrain for him. Its ah...overgrown in places. Didn't the landlord occasionally come out to do any pruning or was that his job as he's renting the space. Probaby the latter, his job. In his satchel, he picks out some garden shears, mostly for trimming moderate stems, not big thick branches or anything. Let Mira have her fun, and he'll make himself busy in the meantime. With it being just after sunup, he could work for a few hours and make some progress before it became sunny right over them and too hot for either him or her to be outside. As he's learning, air conditioning is the best human invention ever. Because in the woods, you cooled off in the river or as deep underground as you can get, on a flat rock. 42

At one point he's positive she's trying to trick him into thinking multiple squirrels are running through the garden, but her illusion isn't realistic when it runs right through his ankle. But her holding of said illusion looks more realistic each time she tries it; mostly had been copying her favorite plush bird. A lot. Teasing the houlou out of reach but summoning copies of herself for them to tear around the upper level of the apartment and chase, while she hides in safety, mischievously eating bamboo slices as she watches the stupid dog show. Although still moderately timid, she's got a mischief streak and its enhanced with her partner in crime Sirius the jackaroo. The shears bite into some of the overgrowth with ease, and he's starting to wish he bought garden gloves. Maybe he could borrow some, or even make his own. Could just buy work gloves next time he goes out to the general store too. 43

Wheek? Curiosity. What doing. he hears a familiar squeak at his ankles. 'I'm trimming this bush, its too big.' he tells her. Big leaf. too big; Make small. snip snip. Fox happy. Across their emotional bond, it makes sense now that make big leaf small makes him happier. She's seen him with shears before, the ones of grooming. She doesn't 'know' the difference, except for smell. These smell like dirt and eats. Others small and smell like fur and fox. Does fur have a smell? Yes. Each fur has many smell, each smell is different. Fox smell different too. There's small pulls on his fur as she climbs up his leg to perch on his shoulder, getting a closer look. He doesn't do much more then do a little hum of acknowledgement that she's there as he trims the bush down to a manageable size. That is, shorter then his waist. and he's a moderately tall fox on two legs. 44

If there's a contest again fro going to Halloween, he might do that again; Mira did an excellent showing last time they'd tried and it was actually a lot of fun to craft the story for her experience. And her unusual ability to make it foggy and make things appear that arne't real are a real eye catcher; it caught the eye of others. Wheek! Fox put leafs down. make nest! The panilla chirps as he snips. A hum of acknowledgement as he brushes some of the overgrowth onto the ground, scattering at his feet. he'll be picking leaves and branches out of both of their fur when he's done here. Not that Mira minds at the exact second. She just got finished with a runaround and will be picking stuff out of her fur for hours afterwards. A chitter of happiness as she clambers back down his body to land on the ground and start pulling some chunks of foliage around the bush to start stuffing it out of sight. She' not made a nest yet this year, had she. Well, it had been too hot. 45

It looks like all your panilla's sniffing about has uncovered a strange fruit!
