An affirmative hum emanated from from the leopard's throat at being corrected about the freshly unearthed gem. Not opal.. He was hopeful he could guess, but really he was clueless about the different kinds of rocks and minerals. So much for what he thought he knew.. There were only a handful that he could identify for sure, and three of them were only very recently learned. He appreciated the intel regardless. There was always something more to learn. The new addition to his growing collection was stored away and work alongside his gem dragon resumed.
He spent some time shoveling and tracking after the gem creature as it moved about to different parts of the rocky wall. All the while, he was mulling over Jack's earlier words.. Finally, he decided to speak up about one thing; "If making good first impressions is a skill to consider oneself good at, Xentus would say you are good at that." Even if unseen, the leopard smiled a toothy grin as he spoke.

Jack looked startled for a moment and looked over at the mammalian, who was smiling at her when he spoke. She distinguished his words after a moment and then smiled back at him, digging into the dirt happily, "Well thanks, you give off a good first impression as well." Part of her wondered why he spoke the way he did, speaking of himself in the third person, but she also knew that would be too rude of her to ask at this point, so she wasn't going to bother with it. If they got to be better friends and started sharing their cultures, then maybe she would find out why that was after awhile. "Has Gid found anything else?" Jack asked with a smile on her face as she dug and then paused to wipe the sweat from her brow. A streak of dirt came off onto her forehead, and she chuckled a little when she touched it and it felt cool to her fingers.

The leopard relished in the returned compliment, feeling a bit satisfied in speaking up about the matter. Even if he didn't know Jack at all, he had a feeling that she was a person of many talents. Her confidently shared knowledge spoke for itself alone. He found it to be a shame that most people were blind to their own achievements or found them insignificant. So given the chance to offer his own input on such a matter, he would. Plus, what better way to make friendly with someone than flattery?
With a bit of elbow grease, Xentus hauled a hefty rock out of the hole he and Gid had been working on. It was about the size of lumpy basket ball and impeded their further progress. Once it was out of the way, the gem dragon made quick to shove his head into the new space. "Looks like he's got something now", the leopard reported over his shoulder. He already had a replacement ready for whatever the creature found. As it scooted out of the hole, it revealed a glimmering white and red stone. But it seemed the dragon was not so willing to give this one up too easily, backing away from the grasp of the leopard and bumping into Jack. It startled itself, dropping the gem and scurrying back to it's owner's side.

Jack leaned her shovel against the wall of the tunnel they were in and went over to Xentus and Gid, wiping her dirty hands off on the front of her pants before she chuckled a little at the gem dragon who had run into her for now. "My apologies Gid, I didn't mean to startle you!" she told him sincerely with a smile as she reached for the stone on the floor of the mines. She turned it over and over in her hands before handing it over to Xentus with a smile and a nod, "Crabfire, good in large bases where you can really get the pattern. If you cut it too small it gets lost in the shuffle, unfortunately." Ignoring the photos in her cart, she wished there was a way to work with stones again, but of course there wasn't at the moment. That was fine.
"Have you done much else in the Labs yet? What do you like doing more than anything else?" the woman asked with a smile, returning to her shovel and leaning on it.

A clawed hand pat the dragon's head in an attempt to reassure its safety as the thing scooted itself against the leopard's leg. Xentus chuckled at the odd creature, shaking his head gently at it. It was hard to ascertain any kind personality the living gem had, but it seemed clumsiness was one of its traits. He'd always taken it as a stoic digging machine who only enjoyed eating stones of different kinds. Good to know even its stone faced facade could be broken.
The leopard took the crabfire stone, turning it around in his claws. The latticed pattern on it was certainly interesting. Smoothed and polished, it would make for something like a nice pendant or beaded bracelet, he thought. He thanked Jack for the information with a grin, happy to learn more about the unearthed gem, before stowing it away in his pack. Gid resumed digging around in the dirt while its owner took a break. Xentus sat crouched against the wall, mulling over the question.
"Hm.. Xentus spends most of his time taming beasts. Ah, but he did got lost in that strange mansion once, if that counts", he replied with a laugh, then continued on, "This one might enjoy taking up fishing some time, he thinks. How about yourself?"

It had been a long time since she had brought Goran to the mines, so it was about time for her to do that this time, she figured as she and Goran stared into the mines from the entrance. It was storming outside, which was great, so they were right under the overhang keeping them out of the rain so far. Lightning crackled behind them, making Goran rumble little in his throat, but he stayed next to her, much too loyal to go anywhere but by her side. Jack pushed her hair back and settled her hand on the pull bar of the wagon she always brought with them and then started into the mines a little. She wasn't sure what to expect from this trip, but that could be a good thing no matter what. All she wondered was if she was going to get the crystals she was looking for or not. Jack sighed, probably not.

It didn't matter what she hoped she would find if she didn't find any anyway, she figured with a little sigh. It didn't matter much at the moment, but that was fine at the same time, she wanted to get enough crystals to get her node, but she doubted she would until next year. At least she had enough crystals for another hollow node if she wanted one, her soul was almost all the way recharged, she could feel it, it would be time to make another node soon, she knew, and she looked over at Goran, hoping he would be able to point her in the right direction. The gargoyle was a bit of a lucky charm in the mines, she figured, and she smiled a little as she thought of past trips, finding crystals and stones, everything that she possibly could at this point. It didn't matter though, only this trip mattered right now.

Jack sighed a little as they wandered through the entry tunnel, she was following Goran as she usually did at this point of the venture, he always caught on to crystals pretty quickly, but it was hard for her to get them done at this point. Maybe she just wasn't patient enough for this, but she really had no idea if that was the case. Maybe she just needed to figure out where to go and see if she could find a pocket of them or something, that might be nice. Shaking her head, she followed the gargoyle into the depths of the mines, hoping he had felt something soon enough, and that they could go on with what they had for now. Maybe he was feeling something she just couldn't yet, he always had a sense of what was going on at this point, which was never a bad thing when all was said and done.

Indeed, he felt something, though if it would help the woman he had no idea, he just knew something was out there and figured it wouldn't hurt to find it. He didn't understand the woman's obsession with the magical crystals, but that was fine at the same time. He didn't know what the big deal was, but he wouldn't argue with her when it came to it, of course, he never did. The stoic gargoyle lurched forward some more, his limbs grinding together as he walked, faint, but it was there. Jack patted him on the head when he stopped and started to dig, hopefully this was a good spot, he usually had some pretty good ideas and instincts at least, and the gargoyle sneered a little at himself as he dug. He couldn't get around to being cocky, that wouldn't become of him, now would it? Shaking his head, he supposed it didn't really matter.

Jack trusted Goran to the depths of her soul, she knew he wouldn't lead her astray in the mines, and he knew she felt that way as well, after all, he could sense her feelings and all that. He smirked at himself a little and kept on digging in the ground as the woman got her items together and started to hack away at the wall of the mines with the pickax. He didn't know what they would find, but it had to be something at this point, he figured with a nod as he dug. Maybe she would get around to selling the gems she had already so they could start fresh, though he didn't really know if she could bear to do that. The collection of gems back at the Kennel was years of work, and he didn't think she would just dismiss it that quickly or anything at this point.

There wasn’t much to find so far, but they had just started. Jack was pleased with things so far, and she knew that Goran wouldn’t steer her wrong anyway, so they kept going as the light off of the light she had on the cart shined brightly, lighting up anything in it’s path. She paused for a moment and glanced around, the tunnel gleamed brightly in the light, and it was lovely. Apparently either they hadn’t been in this area before or she hadn’t really paid much attention, because she didn’t remember this area from before. It was beautiful though, and she wished she could capture it on paper, but this wasn’t the time to do it, she was hunting for crystals and she needed to get it done before anything else happened. Order crystals were hard to come by, and she hoped that things would work out in the long run for her. If they didn’t, well, it wasn’t going to go well for her plans, but at least she would have another hollow node to play with, she supposed.

Whatever they would find, she hoped it was going to be something good, or else what was the point of it all? Jack sighed a little and shook her head, wondering what to do about the lack of crystals at the moment. What would she do next year when it came time to make a node again? All she could really do was keep mining and hope that she found enough. Of course, that was the hardest part, she knew, as she looked over at Goran digging in the dirt of the mines. She shook her head again and went back to the pickax, hitting into the wall repeatedly so she could hopefully find something inside of the wall. It would be nice to find something, definitely, maybe her good luck would come back to her eventually, but she really didn’t know that at this point. Jack watched as the dirt and rock crumbled away slowly from her efforts, and she hoped they would find something good eventually, but she knew that was a bit of a long shot.
