There wasn’t much for her to do at the moment aside from what she was currently doing, and that was the hard part. She just wanted to know what she could do other than that, but there wasn’t much. It was going to be hard for her to be there with a Houluh, which she had, of course, done before, but that wasn’t the point of it all either. Jack rubbed her face and then rubbed Goran’s head when he paused for a few moments, and she hoped that he wasn’t wearing out already. It had been awhile since he had been in the mines, she didn’t want him to get rusty or anything now. He bowed his head a bit and then started to dig again. She always seemed to worry about him a little, from his undying devotion to her to his stamina in the mines, it wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, it was more she worried he pushed himself too far at times. Sure, he could rest in the wagon, but it wasn’t like he was going to ever.

It was fine, they would find a few things and then everything would be alright in the end, but whether or not they found her crystals, well, that was the question wasn’t it? She laughed a little and shook her head as she dug away at the wall, wondering what she was going to do about things as of yet. It was alright in the end, and Goran would reassure her eventually that things would happen the way they needed to happen, and the woman smiled a little as she thought about it. At least she had him with her, and that would make it easier for her to find crystals, of course. He had an affinity for them, it seemed, and she wasn’t going to deal with that just yet. Of course she didn’t mind it at all, but that wasn’t going to worry about things at the moment for now and all that.

With everything worked out, it would be a breeze to get what she needed, or at least that was what would happen in a perfect world. This world was imperfect and oblivious to what people wanted, however, and Goran knew that as well. He watched her for a moment or two before beginning to dig again, hoping to find a crystal for her so she would stop being so morose about it. He knew what she was after, she carried the one she had with her everywhere as a reminder of what she needed at this point. That didn’t matter though, and the woman was intent on finding everything she needed for this node. She told him she would need to harvest more berries this year when winter rolled around again, which was a shame that her stock was running low at this point. Oh well, it didn’t really matter to him though, he figured with a smile.

Jack had a singular goal when it came to the mines, and she didn’t care if anyone knew about it. Most people probably knew she was on the hunt for crystals, but most probably didn’t care either. She had many more nodes than anyone else in the Labs at this point, and that was good for her at this point, she figured. It meant she could do a lot of things with the magic she had access to, and the woman smiled as she thought of it at the moment. Goran was helping her out of course, and part of her wished she hadn’t socketed him so she still had that tainted crystal, but at the same time she had plenty of time to save up for one of those nodes as well. Jack smiled, there weren’t really any regrets about socketing the gargoyle, she loved the soft glow that emitted from him now.

At least he was easy to follow now, she thought as she watched him for a few moments. It made it easier to work with him, she knew, though it didn’t really matter in the long run either, she thought for a little while. Jack pushed her hair back and tied it up, she needed a haircut, and she wondered when she should get one. Probably before the… well, should she? Maybe Renathan would want to see her with long hair, she usually kept it pretty short, and long curly hair was pretty interesting. At least she had an idea of something to do, though part of her wondered if she should have a dress or not, she hadn’t worn one since she was a baby, she thought. Or at least if she had she didn’t remember it. Shrugging, she shook her head and started in on the wall again, wondering what they might find this time.

Nothing was popping up just yet, but if Goran had selected the area, then there was certainly something there, she knew. It didn’t matter how long it took for them to find it, he was always right, and something would show up eventually. Usually it meant there was a decent sized stash, but sometimes it was just one or two amazing things and then it was finished. Jack sighed a little and shook her head, she wished they would find things no matter what, and the woman was iffy on what needed to happen right now to find what needed to be found. There wasn’t anything else to do but figure out what needed to happen, and she leaned on her pickax a little to see what she needed to do at the same time. Jack just hoped she wasn’t going to make Goran leave early before they found anything good, that was the worst part of it all, she figured.

Jack admired her gargoyle, he was devoted and determined to get things done, and to get things done that she wanted him to get done, that was even better. She smiled at him and reached out to stroke his back for a moment, she wasn’t sure what to do with him some days, he kept to himself mostly, but was patient with the others if they climbed on him a little. Most respected him too much for that and would leave him alone mostly, but at the moment she didn’t need to worry about him. If they went too far, then he would let them know and they would leave him alone again. All was well in the Kennel, and she hoped that everything would keep going well no matter what happened. Jack tugged on her hair and the woman sighed again as she started to use the pickax against the wall again, hoping to find something in there, as the gargoyle kept working in the floor.

Goran was focused for the moment, and he glanced over at the woman once he heard her working again. She usually took little breaks when her arms tired out, or she might move to the shovel which used her legs as well as her arms, but for now she kept working on the wall. Jack was getting a little tired already, it had been some time since she had been in the mines, honestly, and she was getting a little out of shape, she would be sore tomorrow. That was fine though, she knew, and the woman smiled a little as they went along what they were doing in silence. Only the occasional rumble from the gargoyle’s throat broke the relative silence around the digging and the pickax, and that was fine with her, she didn’t mind the noise sometimes, it was soothing and that was all she really needed right now. As long as they found at least one crystal, however, she would call this a success.

A thrumming rings loud and clear throughout the mines, leading one to a hematite and a crystal that sang as fresh as river water.

There wasn’t any sign of anything just yet, which was a shame, usually Goran wasn’t wrong about that kind of thing, but she wondered if maybe he was losing his touch with how long it had been since they’d been in the mines. Sighing, she looked at him and shrugged, ”What do you think, pack it up yet?” He could sense her emotions and shook his head, a very human like gesture he had picked up from her. There was something here, he could feel it, and he wondered what it would be like to be wrong in this situation. That was going to be the worst, but it wouldn’t be the first time. Jack shrugged again and shook her head once more, wondering what to do with him at this point. It wasn’t like him to be wrong, but so far they hadn’t found anything, which was a real shame. What could they really do at this point though, aside from move on?

What would they do if they didn’t find anything? He was confident though, they would find something even if it was just something a little small. It might not be a crystal, but it would be good he knew. There was something out there and he knew he needed to figure it out at this point. Jack smiled at him, feeling his confidence, and hoping that things would work out no matter what. She was sure of him at this point, and the woman kept digging away at the wall as she thought about it. What was she going to do if they didn’t find anything? It wouldn’t really matter at this point, she knew, and that was perfectly fine. She had plenty of stones, but she kept thinking about selling them. If the Workshop never opened again, what was the point in keeping so many? Her shoulders slumped as she thought about that prospect, however, and sighed.

There wasn’t much she could do at the moment aside from working on the wall as she dug away at it. There wasn’t much, she realized, to do with anything right now anyway. Sure there were things she needed to get done outside of the mines, but she wasn’t going to do them right now or anything. Jack sighed a little and shook her head, unsure of what to explain to herself or expect from herself either. Things would be fine right now, but she didn’t know what to do with things, and she hated that feeling. Pulling on her hair a little, she sighed again and wished she had something else to do, though she knew she liked mining, she didn’t feel as though she was getting anything done, and that was what aggravated her more than anything, she thought. Maybe she should figure something else out at the moment, though she didn’t even know where to begin.

Whatever the end of this came to, she was sure there would be something good, though she wasn’t sure if it would be what she was after and all that. That was fine, she figured, and sighed a little at the same time. She really wanted to get this done, but there was a hard line to draw in the dirt to get it, just a few more days and she knew she wasn’t going to get it done by then. Hollow node it was then, but she wished she could get her order node done. Oh well, there was always next year, she supposed. Jack sighed a little, wishing she could get it into gear and get things done, but there wasn’t much she figured she could do about it at the moment. Whatever, at least she had Goran at the same time working with her, and she hoped it would stay like that for quite some time. Smiling at him, she continued to dig at the wall, and the woman wasn’t sure what they might find.

As she dug at the wall, Goran dug away at the ground, wondering where it was, whatever was calling him. Jack just sighed a little and shook her head, unsure at what to do with things at the moment, she knew there was something there, there had to be, but what if they didn’t find it at this point? That was the hardest part to think of right now. If there wasn’t anything there, they would both look like fools, she knew, and the woman chuckled a little, at least there wasn’t anyone else there at this point, she figured with a little smile. It was fine if they didn’t find anything, and the woman tugged on her hair a little when she remembered she had pulled it back, she was so used to combing it back with her fingers and then settling a hat on her head. Right now she didn’t do that, there was no point in putting on a hat in the mines after all, was there?

Nothing would go wrong, or at least she hoped, but there was always the chance of there being a cave-in. Jack touched her hard hat with one hand as she paused hitting the wall, and wondered if she was due for one again. It wouldn’t surprise her at this point, she thought with a frown and a sigh. Everything would be fine if that happened, however, and she shook her head a little as she thought of it. Whatever happened, she hoped that things would work out in the long run. Hopefully they would find something soon so they weren’t just working in a barren area, that would be the worst. Of course she trusted Goran, but there was only so long they could go without her being disheartened and cranky with everything that was going on. Jack leaned on the wall and took a bite out of some jerky, she didn’t know what to do.
