Certainly more than zero. There were plenty of strong creatures out there that would probably be much better at pulling sleds than the houluh Kadin was preparing. Or any houluh, really. Creatures with more endurance and strength, enough so that pure speed wouldn't be all that they needed. Kadin wasn't going to win, they all came out here knowing that already. They were just doing this as a bonding experience and, at the end of the day, it was ok if that was all that they got out of it. It was getting closer to it being time for the race, too, and it looked like Kadin was grabbing everything they needed before heading off. Mori flew over to perch on his shoulder, not about to fly after them herself the whole race! Kadin didn't mind it at all since she didn't weigh anything, accepting her easily and bringing her and the houluh over to where the race would begin. He only led the houluh along, not worried about being in the sled or not, even with any of the strange looks they might be getting about it. It seemed that most people were going the more traditional route of sledding with their pets.

Not that Kadin really minded, they weren't here to compete, after all. Kadin brought the houluh over to the start line and got them prepared. They waited for everyone to line up and be ready to get started. Once they start went off, they were off! Kadin did his best to keep them going at a steady pace, only a fast trot. They couldn't go too fast because he didn't want them to get tired out right away. They needed a slow and steady pace if they were going to finish this race in one piece. The houluh really wanted to race ahead, of course, excited by everyone else running away. Kadin did his best to keep the houluh back and paced and, after a while, was finally able to get it to slow down and match his pace. So they continued on the race, running alongside each other, with Mori on Kadin's shoulder. Just like with the training, she didn't have much to say with the race, but she was more than happy to participate in it. It was an experience she was enjoying watching, if nothing else, holding on to Kadin while they kept going along at a steady pace.

They were making good time, even if they had tons of people passing them and ahead of them already, Kadin was clearly unfazed by all of that. He kept them going at the same steady pace, him and the houluh. Whenever the houluh tried to pull ahead, he called it back to make sure that it was staying near him. He didn't want it to tire itself out right away, he wanted it to make sure that it was staying nice and steady along with him. Kadin could keep going for a long while and this run wasn't going to be all day or anything. He was very worried about the houluh tiring itself out and them having to retire early, but that would be ok, too, he wasn't going to force it to run. Heck, if he needed, he could even carry the pup with him just like he was carrying Mori. Not that that took much effort on his part, all she needed to do was hang on and they were making steady progress. She took her time watching the scenery move by as they jogged, looking around at the path that had been laid out for them to follow.

And follow they did, nice and steady. At this point no one was really passing them, everyone behind them was going to be slower than them anyway. Kadin continued to keep them at the steady pace and Mori had to admire his determination for it all. She could see that he had a strong belief and put himself into everything he decided to do with his pets, even if it seemed a bit nonsensical to him sometimes. They continued on through the words, going down the trail, until they finally got to a flatter area. This one nice and smooth running through the snow, the human and houluh side by side. Kadin let them pick up the pace here, but the houluh was clearly starting to get a little tired at this point as they had been running for a while by now. He hoped that they would reach the end with plenty of time to space, but he wasn't going to worry about it too much. They would finish whenever they finished and even if that was after the race and everything then he'd still finish it just the same. They kept going on until the race was finished all the way done.

They ran through fields and around banks, up and down some hills, and through some forests again. Kadin could see some landmarks that were finally showing that they were almost done, running through the forest, the end coming in sight. He could see other creatures at the end, cooling down and eating and drinking. They were just jogging along at their own pace, plenty of other teams finally finished. But Kadin was pleased with them all the same, being able to go this together even with such a young houluh. He wouldn't have traded it for anything else, continuing along until they could finish the race with everyone else. He didn't even care that this probably didn't even count since he wasn't even riding in the sled, but it was all fine. Mori watched his grin as they finally made it to the end, him celebrating with the houluh and giving it plenty of praise and treats as they crossed. Now it was time to go and cool it down, letting the houluh have plenty of food and drink to rest at the end. They were proud of their accomplishment and now they had earned a good rest and plenty of praise for this.
