Kadin saw notice about a race, but for one he wasn't actually in it to win something. Instead he just wanted to take a chance to have some fun with a houluh. Which, honestly, was something that he did pretty common too. He decided to take one of the houluh he'd gotten by exchanging items this time, pleased that he was going to get to spend some time with a rather new addition to his, er. I guess someone could call it a collection. So he set out like that and, of course, as she often did, Mori wanted to tag along. She seemed perfectly content to wander on with him no matter what kind of quest he decided to go on. Kadin was happy to have her along, especially since she seemed to take some amount of security in making sure that Kadin didn't get killed when doing all of these tasks. This one seemed pretty easy compared to some of the other ones they'd been doing so he wasn't too worried about her coming along for once. They all wandered out together to the area where they were supposed to be gathering up to do the race with each other. 1

Since he brought such a small dog along, Kadin figured that he wasn't going to be having it pull him along on the sled. He sure hoped that there wouldn't be any penality for that when he didn't even want his houluh to pull him on the sled and instead wanted to run along the sled with him or something like that. It would be much easier this way, he figured, and even if the houluh had been pulling him he doubted that he'd be able to win the race. Houluh were fast, but there were plenty of pets out there who were much stronger and much more likely able to pull them for longer distances. So he wasn't worried about winning this contest in the slightest. One could even say that he wouldn't mind if they didn't win at all. He had Mori with him, too, and if they really wanted a houluh to pull someone on the sled he could have it pull Mori instead of himself. That way it'd be a lot easier on the houluh, especially since he was just a puppy after all. He wasn't going to risk hurting the puppy by having it pull him.

He supposed that the first thing to do in all of this was to make sure that the houluh knew how to wear the harness it would need in order to pull the sled. Luckily he'd brought along all the gear he would need for an event like this. So he got the harness out and sat near his houluh, trying to get it used to the items that he was going to use to hook it up to the sled. They had the harness and a lot of lines that they would need to use in order to actually attach it to the sled. But first thing was always first, they had to start with just the harness. So he started out by letting the houluh sniff at the harness first. It inspected the harness that Kadin showed it, not really sure one way or another at the sight of it. Taking that as a good sign, Kadin figured he could just put the harness on the houluh and make sure that worked just fine. Mori watched the whole time, not really saying anything one way or the other. She was perched on the sled, fine with only watching right now.

Mori also didn't seem to care one way or the other if Kadin ended up winning this thing or not. For now, she was only hanging around and watching out to see what would happen. She gazed out at the park, trying to see if there was anything else out there that was going on. There were other people preparing for the race, here and there, some of them training their pets to accept the harness just like Kadin was. Others just practicing, having their pet see what it could do with a sled and everything. Kadin was just working with his houluh to see what was going on and feel out how it was to have a harness on. So Kadin carefully strapped the harness over the houluh, working through all of the puppy wiggles as it didn't particularly want to be strapped in to begin with. It whined and wiggled and made all sorts of fuss while Kadin struggled to try and get the harness on it. He didn't have much trouble over powering the houluh since it was just a puppy and all that but it still wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do when it didn't want it.

He should have probably expected that the houluh wouldn't want to be put into the harness and he had, but it was still annoying to deal with. Still, there wasn't any use in rushing something like this. If he tried to rush into getting the houluh into its harness it might just get fearful of it and that would only make his life more difficult in the future. So instead of worrying too much he just took it nice and slow and easy to get the houluh into the harness, there wasn't any rush or need to go too quickly with it. As long as it got the harness on eventually they'd be able to move on with the race. And the race wasn't starting any time very soon so he could take his time getting it all prepared and didn't have to worry about it too much. Mori didn't seemed rushed, either, considering that they still had all of this time to get ready and the race wasn't started for a good while anyway. So she just leaned back and relaxed, not particularly concerned one way or the other with what Kadin and the hoouluh were doing at any given moment.

That was all fine with Kadin. He didn't particularly want to be rushed, anyway, when he was trying to get a creature ready for an event like this. He carefully put the houluh into the harness, giving him plenty of treats and praise as they went along like this. He wanted this to be a positive situation for the houluh so that it wouldn't get annoyed or distressed from wearing just the harness by itself. As long as they did this slowly, there would probably be no problem. Plus, plenty of treats! He continued going slowly but surely, just like that, as the houluh became more and more comfortable with what Kadin was doing. Honestly, the houluh probably wouldn't have been very distressed if Kadin had just gone and put it right on it, but it was certainly more pleased when it was getting all these treats out of it. Mori, meanwhile, found a nice perch on a nearby rock and was watching this all going on, placing her chin in her hands as the human and houluh worked out whatever they were working out on. She wasn't sure why this was taking so long, but she also didn't see much point in rushing them.

It all seemed a bit excessive and a little pointless to her, but clearly Kadin saw a point to all of this. For whatever reason. With a slight sigh, she tilted her head to see if it looked any different at another angle. Nope. "Do you really need to give it a treat after every leg?" She asked idly, not even really sure if she wanted an answer or not, but too bored to think of a reason not to ask about it. Kadin glanced over as he was working with the houluh. He shrugged back. "Not really. This houluh is pretty chill about the whole process, but I don't see any problem with making it an as positive experience as possible." He said reasonably. The houluh certainly seemed to be having a good time with all of this, it was getting plenty of treats out of it. Kadin smiled at it licked his hands, tail wagging like crazy. Yup. There was absolutely nothing wrong with making it as positive an experience as possible, especially when they'd eventually have to do some long race with all of this pretty soon. He kept going, nice and slowly, until all the straps were in place.

Mori frowned a bit and shrugged about it. She didn't say anything against or for what Kadin was doing, she only watched for now. The houluh did seem very happy with everything that was happening so there wasn't much to say in that regard. She had a feeling that Kadin knew more than she did about all of this, anyway, so it was her opportunity to just watch and learn for now. She didn't have any complaints. Once the houluh was all suited up, Kadin offered it some more treats and some pets to make it all a positive experience. He played with the pup a bit, offering it a toy and ruffling its fur and ears to get it tippy tapping and happy. "There's a good pup, good job, look at you wearing your harness!" He teased, offering it more treats. The houluh was very pleased by all of this, of course, and happily danced around the boy once it was all geared up. The next step would be to get it hooked up to the sled and encouraging it to start running around with it, but first he wanted to make sure that it was plenty used to the harness.

Once he made sure that the houluh was plenty comfortable with the harness and everything he was doing, Kadin brought it over to a small test sled and and hooked it up to it. He didn't want to get it hooked up to the whole thing until it actually knew what it was doing with the sled. He pet the pup plenty, giving it a lot of encouragement while it was hooked up to the sled and feeding it treats so it was happy and comfortable with it. Then he started encouraging the pup to pull. He clapped his hands, tempted it with treats, and did everything he could think of to encourage the pup to come over to him from where it was hooked up to the sled. Mori continued to watch all this without much to put in still, one way or another. She saw that he was getting plenty of enthusiasm from the houluh by doing all of this, but she still wasn't sure how it was all working like this. The houluh was really into Kadin's energy. His enthusiasm was getting it more and more excited to run after him and the treats were really the icing on the cake.

It seemed that his tone of voice, his body language, and really everything he put in to interacting with the houluh were all aimed to get him encouraged to play with the pup. He was putting his everything into getting the pup to engage with him and everything he was doing went into that. She watched quietly, not really letting much of her thoughts on her face, while he continued to work with the pup and get it to do what he wanted it to do. Kadin was encouraging the pup to keep pulling on the sled, following him along with the sled behind it. At first, it kept looking back in confusion, wondering what it was behind it. He wasn't really sure what to make of it, but Kadin was able to get it to focus back on him easily with some words of encouragement and treats. The pup kept coming after him and, the more he did it, the more he was focused on Kadin and pulling than he was on whatever was going on with the sled behind it. It was an encouraging sign. Kadin felt that he was making good progress getting this houluh to complete this quest.

He continued to encourage it to pull the sled, moving all around the park with the houluh. There wasn't all that far to go just yet, considering that they were only just in the park, but Kadin was able to get a nice little track going, all around the park to pull the sled around. He was sure to keep encouraging the pup the whole time, stopping every now and then to give treats, but after a while it seemed as if the pulling itself was becoming encouragement enough. The pup was having a lot of fun playing this game with Kadin! So they kept playing it for a while, still under the eyes of Mori. She watched still with little interest, but curious enough about how all of this was working. Kadin didn't put much thought to it, but she was carefully watching her training style and was wondering what things she'd like to do as well or perhaps improve upon. It probably wouldn't be all that different from how he was training, the basics seemed pretty solid, but she wasn't sure about how enthusiastic he seemed to have to get about it all. Perhaps there were other ways, too, she could learn.

But for that she would likely have to watch other trainers and see how they work before coming up with her own style. But for now there was only Kadin to watch, he was the only one around. And they were here, wandering around the park with a houluh. Honestly she wondered why she bothered coming at all, but it's not like there was much else she could do at this point. With a sigh and a hm, she leaned back while listening to Kadin run around the park with the houluh, encouraging it to go faster and faster with the sled. Eventually the two of them stopped and she could then listen to him hooking up the houluh to a different sled, one they might use for the race. It was still light and not one he actually planned on riding on since the houluh was so young. He didn't want to put too much weight on him while he was still so young, it might mess up with his growth if he were to do too much with it. But for now he just wanted to make sure that he was working well with the sled he'd use for the race.

Kadin just planned on running besides the sled while they were doing the race, after all, and for that he didn't need to get on it. He just needed the houluh used to the straps, the sled, and the weight, and even running with him. He didn't want to have to rely on having a leash attached to it to get it to follow him. He just wanted it to be able to follow him around or run by his side while he helped it run the race. Would Kadin be able to run the whole race? Who hecking knows, but he was going to give it a shot. So now he started going around the park again, getting the houluh used to the other sled, how big it was, and how it felt to pull it. He didn't want to worry too much about how it felt about this sled. Mori watched as they ran around the park, much the same as they had been before, and couldn't for the life of her think about how this was much different than what they had been doing before. But she wasn't going to consider it too much, just watch as usual.

She was considering that it would be a good idea to perhaps consider how it would be to train her own creatures. She was clearly as smart as any human and would be perfectly capable of doing it herself. Size was just a bit of an issue. She was too small for most creatures she might want to work with, much less to reward them. The treats were rather big for it, it would be difficult for her even to do that. What she really needed was to be big enough to be taken more seriously by the creatures she wanted to work with, but that wouldn't be an easy process. She could perhaps ask Kadin if there was any way to make something like that happen. He could use something to do with his brain instead of working with only houluh and sarane all the time. The houluh seemed to love him, though, just as they seemed to love anyone. Kadin didn't have any problem working with them like this, often and with a lot of enthusiasm. It seemed that every houluh responded to him well once he gave it the right amount of enthusiasm and encouragement to do what he wanted.

Right now he was working on getting this one used to the sled. They should probably take a rest after this, too, if the both of them were meant to make it through the entire race. He took the houluh around on a few more circuits of the park until he was satisfied that they were comfortable with running around like this. Once he was certain, he sat down with the houluh and had them both rest for a while. It would be a bad idea to do this while too tired. The houluh didn't want to rest, of course, being a puppy and more than happy to keep running around like crazy all the time every time. He tried to get it to settle as best he could, getting them all to relax for a while. Mori found it easy enough to participate in this part, sitting with Kadin and the houluh and looking around to see if anyone else was preparing for the race. She wondered idly how many participants there would be and how it would go in the race. Kadin wasn't here to win, but she couldn't help but wonder how many people would be trying to win.
