After the completion of his last quest with this particular pair, Kadin felt confident enough to come and do another one. This time they came to the quest board to look together and see what quest they should take on next. The houluh didn't have much of an opinion about this, of course, but he felt that it was a good idea to let Mori have some choice in this decision making. They looked over the quest board together, Kadin reading over each notice before he'd decide on what he wanted to do today. There was plenty to choose from, of course. The houluh with him didn't seem to have much of an opinion one way or the other and Mori only scanned the letters for a while before reminding Kadin that she couldn't read. Kadin huffed and mentioned that they'd need to fix that soon before he started to read out the different noticed for her. There were plenty of different quests on the board so they went through them all truly together this time, with Kadin telling Mori the details of all the different ones available so that they could pick one out together rather than Kadin just selecting.

Eventually Mori got bored of listening to them all, none of them really catching her attention, before she found a small notice that was hidden behind some of the others. She pointed it out and told Kadin that it was the one she wanted to do, requesting that he choose that one, not any of the others. Kadin frowned a bit, but then he read the noticed out to her and asked if she was sure that's the one she wanted to do. She shrugged because it didn't really matter to her one way or the other which one they did. She'd chosen that one without even knowing what it was so it was the one she wanted to do. Kadin shrugged, too, since he didn't care either and it sounded just fine. He grabbed the notice and the houluh and figured that they should head off to the street where it said the house was. The houluh would actually be a pretty good choice for this one. Houluh tend to be good at finding little creatures and trying to get rid of them on command. They just needed to find the house and the barn and get rid of the mice.

Luckily, they knew what street it was, so after walking down it for a while they were able to finally find the correct one. It wasn't super obvious just by looking in, but the home owner had thought ahead enough to put up signs so people accepting their quest would know that they had reached the right place. Kadin, Mori, and the houluh walked over to the house first to talk to the home owner and make sure they understood what was expected of them for this assignment. It seemed pretty straightforward from the notice board, but it never hurt to make sure he knew what he was signing up for. Nothing new was really gained from what they said, talking about how there were so many mice in the barn and it was important for them to take care of them all so he could finally have peace. Kadin talked to him for a bit while Mori wandered around, looking at what they had here and there in the house. Eventually Kadin got everything he felt he needed from the home owner and they could head out to the barn to take care of the mouse problem right away for him.

First thing was first, they needed to scout out the barn and see what they were working with. Kadin also wanted to make sure that they didn't have anything out that might hurt the houluh while they were searching through the barn. So he picked up some scrap bits of metal and moved some sharp objects out of reach. Unsurprisingly, they did run into some mice while doing so. The guy hadn't been kidding. He really did have a bad mouse problem. They were all over the place, every time Kadin tried to move around some equipment it seemed as if there were more of them. The houluh was getting very excited by all of this, which was a good sign. Every time something rustled it was off like a shot, chasing after it and trying to catch whatever it was. Kadin found this plenty amusing and didn't try to discourage the behavior since this was basically what they were here for anyway. But he was started to see, the more he looked around, that just chasing them down wouldn't be enough. He should set some trapped, too, if he really wanted to catch a large amount of these mice to clear the barn.

Once the area was cleared of things that could hurt his houluh, he let the pup loose to do whatever it wanted in the barn while he went to start setting up some traps. The best thing to use for this, he figured, were bucket traps with some bait. Buckets were easy enough to acquire for that, as well as some wood and other things he needed for the lid and ramp. He had Mori come with him for this so she could help him out and learn what had to be done for something like this. She was curious enough and always seemed willing to learn from him so she went ahead with him to learn how it all worked. Kadin set up the bucket, put a ramp on it, and also set up the lid and everything else he needed for the process. While he did all that, he had Mori watch and learn so he was explaining what he was doing the whole time. It was a simply enough trap, really, and very effective for how simple it was. He just needed to make sure he made enough and had good enough bait and set them up in good locations.

Locations were very important for something like this. If he put them in the wrong place, out of the path of the mice, they would probably not find the right places and not get the mice into the trap. He might get a few still but he wouldn't get as many as he needed to help clear out this guy's barn. He needed to place them by walls, along areas where the mice would like to travel, so that they were right in their path and they'd be tempted by the bait. He finished his first bucket and then went to gather more supplies so that they could make more. He wanted to have at least ten, if not more, buckets set up like this. It would take a long time to get a ton of the mice since he couldn't magic them all right into the traps, but it would be the most effective way. Just chasing after them wouldn't get them right in his traps with any efficiency and they'd only be wasting time trying to get them that way. So he kept on working on making the buckets and setting them up in strategic locations for catching the mice.

As he worked on making the buckets, he explained what he was doing each time for Mori and then started asking her for some help on making them. He wanted her to get some hands on experience, too, in case she ever felt like doing something like this for herself. That's probably be on a smaller scale since she couldn't exactly handle the full sized buckets, what with her size and all, but it was useful knowledge to have for any situations like this, as unlikely as they might be or not. So they kept working together to make more buckets traps and once they were made they set them up in strategic locations all around the place. Meanwhile, the houluh was having the time of its life going all over the place chasing mice. It wasn't catching a while lot of mice, to be honest. It wasn't trained for this and not the best at it, honestly, especially since it was so long. But damn was it trying and Kadin could always respect that. It was also having a ton of fun chasing all the mice so Kadin was fine with that, too, even if he was started to wonder something.

What would he even do with all of this mice once they were caught? His best bet would probably be to pack them up and use them as food for his other pets. He had plenty of reptiles that'd do well on a mouse diet. Not to mention felines, too, that would probably also appreciate the mice. He didn't want to just kill them and leave them like that to fertilize some crops. He should probably get a cooler and some ice so he could freeze them, store them for later, and feed them as needed. With that in mind, Kadin continued working on all of his bucket traps. It was taking a while, but he expected it to since he needed to make so damn many of them to properly set them up and catch all of the mice he wanted to catch. The farmer probably wouldn't be happy that this would all take more than just a day, but Kadin was still firm in his conviction that this would be the best way to take care of the problem in the long run, rather than just scaring all of the mice away by chasing them down and doing something temporary.

So instead he set up all of his buckets and put them around the barn. Inside, outside, all over the place. He made sure to bait them, too, so that plenty of mice would come for what was in them and he could trap them. He went to the home owner to explain his plan and show him the traps. He figured that it would be best for him to leave the traps alone and come back the next day and even maybe the day after that until they stopped showing up with mice. He was right. The home owner was reluctant to agree because he wanted the mice to be taken care of quickly, not slowly, but Kadin continued to try and convince him that this would be the best way. Once he was convinced, he went ahead and left for the day, promising to come back with his houluh and Mori the next day to collect all the mice in the traps. He'd humanely dispatch them and use them for food for his pets like he planned so that they wouldn't go to waste. He wasn't too worried about disease, either, figuring that freezing them would help with that pretty well.

So Kadin left that day and came back the next. He dumped the mice into a box to get rid of them safely later and set the buckets back up again. Then he left for the day, coming back right before night to collect any mice that he had caught during the day. Then, just as before, he left for the night and came back for the morning, collecting all the mice that had been caught over night. He repeated this process, as well as letting loose the houluh to catch stragglers, regularly coming back to clear the farm of more mice until the quest giver seemed plenty happy with the reduction in the population. He was much more happy now that there weren't so many mice around and ruining his farm. Kadin figured that he might even keep coming back every now and then, just to maintain the traps and make sure that the population stayed down. He didn't want it to come back again after he had just fixed it, ruining all of his hard work. But now that the man was satisfied he could go ahead and call this quest complete for now, happy with his work and the reduction of the population.
