Dreams were important to Jinx. If you could decipher them properly, separate the wheat from the chaff, you could learn something about yourself, or even go as far as figuring out an event based on the most minute details your waking mind couldn't piece together. She had had a few premonitions of future events while she slept herself, but she was facing a block. She had dreamed of darkness at home, a blank slate, the insides of her eyelids. She had tried using her board to contact spirits, but they had all left her... or were waiting for her to do something first.
But what?
And then she had heard of this place, a hall for dreams. She had eagerly come, greeted the Shalaya with reverence. This didn't feel like a place for small talk, so she remained silent as she was led down the corridor. She selected her own door, opened it, and entered what appeared to be a clearing between trees and a small bubbling brook. Smooth stones lined the bed, soft thick grass beneath her feet. The sun shone down, warming her bones. She would rest here, just a minute... She laid down, using her arm as a pillow...
Her dream started out like many others. Darkness, enveloping, all encompassing... But then she noticed a light. And then another. Tiny, small pinpricks breaking through the wall. It was as if the sky was being sliced open as each star made itself known, slowly and without her noticing. Suddenly the sky was filled with stars, and a thin crescent moon. Clouds became visible, lit up from the reflected light. What was a desolate wasteland as now a comfort. Soon there were so many stars that Jinx could see the path before her! Lined with large, flat stones, she only hesitated a mere second before she started walking, feeling compelled to follow this through to the end.
She felt like she had been walking down an endless trail for hours, that weird dreamlike state where time moves slowly, and then the scene changes. No questions asked, just a change of scenery, completely normal as can be. Jinx was now standing on the side of a field, the the moor leading down to the water, a thick layer of morning mist rolling all around her. She could hardly see, and yet she felt secure, safe, connected to the land around her.
Home.
She could have stayed there forever. But nothing lasts forever. The despair came, this time not a complete darkness, but more of a deepening of the fog until it was just...gray. Bleak. Nothingness. She felt sadness envelop her. Everything she loved, gone. Lost to time. The fog deepened, darkened, until it was indeed blackness, and she was spiraling down, hitting the bottom, and - a tiny light appeared. A flickering hope. She was not alone.
Kaliyah was with her.
