Kadin was... concerned about this job. Not necessarily because of the description. He was relatively confident in his ability to spend time with and manage just about any pet out there. No, his concern in this case was more... Hm. Who would he bring with him for a job like this? Would they be safe? Would he be able to make them all get along? Kadin felt as if, no matter what he brought, it'd be a gamble. If it was something powerful enough to stand up to a PHIL, he ran the risk of upsetting the poor beast and making it angry. Grumpy. More likely to attack and snap. And what would he do in that case? Fight it when he was supposed to be taking care of it? He didn't like that. It would feel like failing the assignment he was given and he wanted to make sure to accomplish it. 1

The other option was to go with something small. Something soft and easy to spend time with. Something that the PHIL would not find threatening in the least. And, maybe if Kadin was extremely lucky, it might even bond with the small, weak, useless cute thing and he'd be able to get away with no one being maimed today. It was a difficult decision, not one that Kadin took lightly. The desire to have personal protection almost outweighed the gamble and potential payoff that bringing something soft and easily loved would make. But at the end of the day, Kadin had to go with something small, cute, and fluffy. How could someone resist a young houluh, after all? They were too cute to deny! So Kadin showed up at some woman's house to take care of her PHIL with a houluh by his side and a dagger hidden in his boot.

The dagger was just in case, of course. He wasn't going to risk his life or his houluh's by going into an unknown PHIL's home. But he sure didn't plan to or want to have to use it. He was just going to have it with him so that if the PHIL tried anything at his houluh he'd be able to defend it. He wasn't that concerned about this happening, in reality. this was supposed to be a pet. A tame creature that he was going to watch for just a short time. But it never hurt to be overly prepared just in case and, in this case, Kadin was going to prepare. He didn't want to risk his life or the life of his pet on one of these quests, he never wanted to do that, so in order to make sure they were all safe he'd take as many precautions as he had to.

Eventually he and his houluh were let into the home. They knocked on the door and the woman opened it, pleased and relieved that they were finally here to take care of her poor precious pet who just needed some love and affection while she was away! She rushed them into the home in a flurry of instructions, throwing all sorts of treats at her precious pet and papers with lists and lists of instructions at Kadin before rolling out of the house like a raging whirlwind. She never even questioned the houluh. Kadin wasn't sure if she had even seen it in her rush to get out of there. So he was left, standing in the middle of a house with a PHIL glaring at him from one corner, a houluh standing by his side in complete confusion, and himself covered in all sorts of written instructions that hadn't been on the flyer.

What the fuck was he supposed to do now? The PHIL growled at him for daring to be in its house. His houluh whined and hid behind his legs. Kadin sighed and grabbed a couple pieces of paper before they could float the rest of the way to the ground. Whatever. If this was going to be a crapshoot, he might as well roll with it like it was a crapshoot. He unclipped the leash from the houluh since it wasn't the thing he was worried about to begin with and leaned down to gather up the papers off the floor. He didn't once look directly at the PHIL, not even for a moment. He didn't want to risk catching its eyes and setting it off for any such reason. However, he was very careful to always keep it at the edge of his vision. He needed to track it even if he wasn't watching it.

Kadin focused on only gathering up the papers, not paying any attention to the PHIL at all. Over time, as he didn't move forward to backward to interact with the PHIL at all, the creature seemed to lower some of its defensive posture. It snorted a bit, waving its tail back and forth for a moment, before moving towards Kadin and the houluh for a little bit to see what was even going on. Its curiosity started to outweigh whatever hang ups it might have about this new person. It probably helped that Kadin wasn't paying close attention to it or pressuring it to do anything that he wanted it to do. Kadin continued tidying and straightening up while he allowed the PHIL to approach. As he was waiting, the houluh did seem curious in what the PHIL was going to do even if Kadin wasn't acting as if he was interested.

He was going to let these two interact with each other as they wanted to, watching closely out of the corner of his eye as he waited to see if they would get along. He continued to act as if he wasn't watching them, wanting them to interact naturally as possible while still being in a safe, controlled environment. Kadin watched in anticipation as they interacted. The PHIL snorted and backed away as the houluh approached it, unsure of suddenly having attention on it when it didn't really want this type of attention to begin with. The houluh read its signals just fine, backing away a little bit and not wanted it make the PHIL uncomfortable at all. Since it backed off, the PHIL came forward again, carefully sniffing at the houluh as if it were curious about it. This wasn't so bad after all, the houluh and the person didn't seem bad.

All they could do was to wait and see if this was going to go well for them. The houluh sniffed the PHIL back, tail slowly wagging as it happily accepted the attention. Kadin waited to see if he would need to interfere, but he soon saw that he shouldn't have been so worried after all. The PHIL eventually seemed to relax, letting the houluh sniff it. Once they were introduced to each other, the PHIL even seemed interested in the human, too. It approached Kadin next, sniffing and snorting at his pants, shoes, and shirt. Kadin held very still, watching the PHIL more obviously not, but keeping still and calm while allowing it to inspect him. Giving it all the time it needed, the PHIL eventually snorted and backed away, shaking its head and moving further into the room to ignore Kadin completely. He suddenly relaxed, pleased with this. It was enough.

He didn't need the PHIL to be his best friend, all he needed was for it to accept him in its house. Now he and the houluh could follow the PHIL further into the house, taking their time to explore the surroundings and look around when they were under the scrutiny of the potentially dangerous creature. It was relaxed and so everyone else could, too. Kadin even found a couch further in and set up camp there, sitting down and watching as the houluh respectfully followed the PHIL around the house, more than happy to see what all was going to happen while they were hanging out in this house. Kadin watched them carefully, wanting to make sure they continued to get along and that the houluh didn't get on the PHIL's nerves. He was just happy if it could entertain the PHIL for a while and keep her happy while the owner was gone.

In the end they somehow managed to spend a pleasant time all together. Kadin played with his houluh and gave the PHIL the space that it seemed to desire. The PHIL seemed happy enough to just watch them play in the house, even if they weren't normally here. Kadin offered them both treats and fed them once it was time for that, he even offered to brush the PHIL's hair, although THAT almost ended in disaster. They managed to all get along perfectly well in the time that they had together and the owner was more than pleased once she got back. Kadin wasn't sure if he'd ever do something like this again, but he wasn't entirely upset with how it went while he was here. It made him even think about how he should probably work with his own PHIL at some point, he sure did have a few back home.
