There were few times during the year that Renathan was absolutely a little more sad than other times of the year. Every single year whenever the times of feasting came around; he found himself inexplicably sad, though he had no idea what caused it. He could easily write it off as some odd effect of the weather changing, or perhaps it could have even been that he missed his homeland and the large family dinners that would be had there; he certainly had not made himself a family here and the more he thought about it, the more he thought that it would be really 'for him' to do so. He took a day off from work whenever he felt especially bad one day, and in order to spare Auburn his moping, he performed the ritual and took Flaik with him instead. She needed to be socialized, so he figured it wouldn't hurt to take her out questing. He needed something to do other than mope today.

Flaik was a soft individual, sweet and meek, though he had seen her stamp at one of the other orbaru crosses once for getting into her spot when she didn't want them to- and he'd also had her butt him before with her little horn nubs because she wanted some of the treats he'd brought. She was a little bit on the mopey side sometimes, like he was, so he felt very comfortable in her presence on days like this one. Admittedly, his more 'sad' days made Auburn exhausted, and he could tell. She had to work for the both of them, sometimes, with her happy little attitude. Flaik though? Flaik would wallow with him, at least today.
The sky was grey. It always seemed to be, this time of the year, despite the sky being clear. Flaik kept close to his side, head down and large eyes lifted up to watch the sidewalk as they walked.

Flaik was a watchful individual. Renathan wasn't sure if this was a facet of the 'species' that this halfbreed was, or if it was simply all Flaik. He'd given up her sibling a while back upon receiving them as a gift, and he sometimes felt a little bad- regretting it whenever he saw Flaik keep to herself and seem a little mopey. Sometimes, he didn't make the decisions he would have had he been a little bit better about thinking of the future. He reaches out, allowing Flaik to see him do it, and then he patted her on her muzzle. She glances up at his mask and doesn't really do much of anything else. Renathan sometimes wondered what his creatures thought of his mask, before they really got used to it.
The rest of the walk was fairly quiet. There were not a lot of people out and about; most were already where they were going to be for the Feast Times.

For it being the feast and gifting half of the year, people were oddly not very giving to the community at times. The quest board was a good indicator of this, when they got there. The walk would have been eerie if Renathan hadn't been quite used to it, though he didn't really like it either. It was not uncommon for people to feel more like staying in when it was cold, or at friend's homes during the giving times. The quest board itself was absolutely covered in requests, as if it was wearing a flapping little coat of white feathers, sprinkled with scrawled ink. Renathan moves his palm from where he had been petting Flaik's back for a bit of comfort just before. He was somewhat in awe of how many there were, certainly there were more than last year. How was he going to find himself one that was suitable, having to go through all of these?

Luckily, Renathan did not have to deal with going through the veritable hoard of quest requests on the board, because his eye was caught nearly immediately by the fact that the majority of the board itself was covered with one particularly large request- with all of the other ones flittering mostly behind it. He breathes out a sigh of relief; because in that moment he was already pretty convinced that he was going to help with this 'large' request- unless it was something that he was convinced that he would not be able to do (anything with child-care at this point, Renathan would leave to the professionals; and mostly the same with the elderly at this point).
Flaik keeps her head down, sniffing around the quest board but staying as close to Renathan as she could. She trusted him to some degree, but certainly felt quite odd about being 'out and about' all of a sudden.

Renathan tries to make heads or tails of the large request on the quest board while still keeping an eye on the ever-shy Flaik. It was folded so many numerous times before that he actually could hardly even see the writing on it. He places a large calloused palm on it and nearly scrapes the top of the corner he has his hand on (trying to get the thing to be flat enough to read by stretched it a little bit) with one of his dark claws. He was going to need to cut them down a tad, he hadn't noticed them grow so sharp, despite all of his work. He finally is able to just make out the first corner enough to realize that it is mostly... Pictures? For a moment, he stares at it blankly, trying to figure out the pictures. There were all sorts of random things on it, all sorts of critters- some of which that he didn't recognize as Labs species.

A few of them sort of looked a bit like Labs Species (the fat bird could have been a COD if it were any brighter a color perhaps), and there are dogs (houluh? vulticus? they were not the right size or shape for either relative to the other creatures) and even cats and deer (that clearly didn't have galabex's horn styles at all). There were also vegetables and such, which just made the entire thing more confusing for him. What was this person asking for? He tilts his head to one side and places his other hand on the other side of the questing board, keeping an eye on Flaik even as he tried to decipher what the thing was asking for. After un-rolling one of the sides with a palm he finally finds the words he's looking for to be able to decipher what the cacophony of strange creatures was in the slightest.

Flaik ducks her head beneath the board and sniffs at something she finds on the ground there. Renathan didn't really stop her because he was squinting to look at the writing that was along the bottom, and some of it even beside the drawings. He could hardly make any sense out of the mess. There was an 'URGENT' and a 'PLEASE' with copious amounts of exclamations, but Renathan wasn't sure what to make of everything that comes after that. Feast... Fridge... Ingredients. Ah, so maybe someone had some issues with their holiday feast items defrosting? He squints and re-reads it, before glancing around for Flaik. For a moment, he doesn't find her and gets pretty worried, but when he lays eyes on her again he calls for her to come over, and luckily she does. He hadn't taught her to do that, so he was glad that she had picked up a little over time.

After making sure that Flaik was nearby, the russet mammalian tucked his tails around his ankles again (it was fairly cold out, though he was more used to the sensation of cold now, he still didn't like it much) to try to keep some warmth around his feet before he continued reading the strange request. The birds... Escaped. The... Grazers? Escaped. They ate the whole garden? What? Renathan had thought that a refrigerator went out, how did whole animals escape and eat the garden? "What?" Renathan murmurs to himself, disbelievingly, beneath his mask. He was already fairly convinced that he wanted to take this quest, but how was he supposed to figure out how to even help? Hunt some dishes? Save the feast? Renathan wasn't sure if that sort of thing was his 'thing'.
That was when he read the last line, though it took quite a bit of work to do with all of the disorientation the entire affair caused.

"Or help... Grandma... In the kitchen?" That was something that Renathan could do, if nothing else. He frowns and tilts his head slightly. No one had ever accused him of being a poor cook. He might could also pick some veggies from his own gardens to bring, he had a pretty decent crop this year that he hadn't messed with. "I think I know what we're going to do, Flaik." He said, and upon hearing her name or perhaps just the tone of his voice- Flaik lifts her head and regards him with golden eyes. "We're going to stop by the gardens, and then go to... Where even is this thing at?" He frowned, looking for the information on the questing board. "I guess I'll have to ask the questing association again, I have no idea what to make of this thing." He reaches up, about to collect it from the board- before he realized that they were going to need A LOT of help. He leaves it up, as if it were a banner instead.

Their first stop in this entire endeavor, now that Renathan had decided upon that particular (really confusing) quest was the Questing Association counter. He needed some more information about this particular claimant to be able to help, and just trying to get the basic information from that terrible request was difficult enough without having to try to go over it yet again for any sort of information that might have been left out (who knew, it could have been written on the back upside down and backwards for all he knew!) he was just going to get the information from the group of people whose job it was to know this information upon allowing the quest to go through. Renathan leads Flaik up to the building with relative ease (was it just him, or was she getting much more used to him than she had been now?) and he wonders if she would stay if he told her to.

The russet mammalian decides not to test his luck with such a skittish (and rare, in this case) creature so he takes his lead out from where it is tied to his hip satchel and he unrolls it to tie it to her simple collar. "Here you are, you wait here, okay?" He ties the other end to a post specifically for the purpose just outside of the door (they were, after all, very common in the city overall). After this, and giving her a quick pat on the head, he turns towards the door and opens it with ease. Hopefully he would not be in very long, just in case there was someone watching them in the otherwise relatively cold-deserted streets. He raises a palm in greeting, his face turned towards the help person at the desk. "Hello! I was going to ask about that erm..." He rubs the back of his neck anxiously. "That uh, banner out there?"

Calling it a banner was a stretch, but the individual at the desk seemed to realize what he was trying to do. Instead of watching relief at his relative kindness cross their face, Renathan watches as a person roll their eyes. At him? At first he's a little bit on the hurt side, but then he realizes that the individual seemed to remember the person that had asked for the quest. 'Ah yes, I remember that person.' The individual says to him. 'Very well'. He gives a slight anxious expression, beneath his mask, at the person's statement. 'I'd suggest picking another quest, there are several out there.'
Oh... The person must have made a very bad first impression, then. "I see. Well, I'd like to help, so I was just going to ask you the address. And any information you might think would help?" He cracks a smile beneath the mask, but it is false. He worries about Flaik outside, but can hear her butting at the door slightly. That was calming.

At least he knew that Flaik was still out there. He was abnormally a little bit on the melancholy side, that was for absolute certain, and that made him more anxious as well (a little more than concerned than average about things that rarely ever happened in the city's limits- like theft) so it bothered him all the more when the help desk person- generally very nice overall, gave him a very obvious once-over and with a lot of concern said- 'Alright, if you are sure...'
Would they even let people ask for assistance from the questing association if they were 'bad' people? That was the strange feeling he was getting about this. Still, he was confident with his ability to take care of himself. "I'm sure." He says, more confidently than he felt by a long-shot. "Everyone deserves help this time of year, right?" He says, wanting to get this over-with now so that he could reunite with Flaik.

The person sighs, and fetches the information from their data-pad with relative ease. They give Renathan the correct coordinates and then he turns fairly quickly on his heels towards the door, raising his hand again. "Thank you." He says, anyway. He knew to be on his guard, at least. The address didn't give him any extra information at all, but he at least knew that the person was worried enough to be reluctant to let him take the quest to begin with. Once he steps out of the door, with the address in hand, he reaches out and gives the somewhat nervous Flaik a pat. "Good gal." He told her, for staying in the relative same spot anyway, despite it being aided by the lead. He removes the lead, and unties her. "Alright, to the gardens!" That was the next stop, his own gardens. He tried to keep his attentions on that instead of worrying about whoever asked for the quest.
