On the Board
Checking over the quest board, a new listing catches your eye. It's handwritten, in neat but pretty handwriting on vaguely green tinted stationary, which is printed at the bottom with a familiar logo. Curious, you read the message...
"Hello! As winter is in full swing, I find myself with a bit more free time than usual. After all, Herbologist's Delight isn't quite as busy when all of the plants are in torpor! Every year I do my best to make a fresh batch of seasonal cookies to try and help people stay cheerful through this dreary season, but... well, my speed isn't what it used to be! I would appreciate an extra set of hands around the shop to help me bake, and I'll make sure you get to have some of the extras. Sincerely, Alura. "
Interesting! It sounds like the shopkeep of Herbologist's Delight needs some help this year, and while it's not necessarily paid, you're pretty sure you'd enjoy what she's offering..."
In Order to Succeed: Help Alura out with her baking! You can't imagine that's very hard- almost everyone's baked a cookie at some point, right?
Prize: From the sounds of it, it looks like you'll be getting some delicious baked goods as a reward... along with the usual quest points, of course.
Challenge Rating: Very Easy x.20

He's had enough of those wild escapades into someone's wild garden for one year, Flare decides to himself as he pats a layer of fluffy moss around the edges of his new plant. The lilac sunbonnet he'd walked away alive with a pair vs the single plant, and it even had roots for his own. Instead, worriedly fluttering about him with her shell in her mouth, is his worrywart of a wish fish. Wasn't going to let any sort of strangler anywhere near this plant. He didnt' know what would happen. Cowrie stubbornly follows him rihgt over the gate as he leaves for some fresh air, stretching his arms over his head. As he passes through the marketplace, the garden store stands open and is wafting the smell of baking grains over the air. Even passerbys are stopping to sniff and stare before meandering along. Probably for the sign that says "Cookie Weekend: Every helper gets a cookie!" 1 x.20

Flare enters the shop, his nose leading the way. Fresh baking grains is a smell he's had a long seated love for. Delicious flat breads, sweet breads, fruit filled breads, risen breads, just BREAD. Since when did the garden store bake? The old human woman peeks out from around the corner, her white hair bundled up in a bun on her head as the bell jingles with his entrance into the oepn door store. She greets him, and asks if he was here for the quest she posted. "You wrote a request?" he asks, puzzled. She smiles, giving a briefness of the seasonal treats cooking up rihgt now and needs some help. Age doesn't treat everyone kindly, especially people. "I would like to help. Yes." Sure, he's not nothing better to do at the exact second. "May my fish come inside?" he gestures at Cowrie, peeking shyly over his shoulder before ducking out of sight again. 2 x.20

Cowrie is welcome, but she should avoid the second room full of her plant animals. Flying creatures aren't seen as friends. The fish's ash gray eyes blink over his shoulder once again as the old woman... wasn't her name Alura?... Alura, shows him to the prepping area. She's cleared off the usual shop counter and it is DUSTED in white flour. Several bowls and cups stand there, full of ingredient. She passes him a recipe. Mentions the math is already done, just to add them in order, mix, then add the wet ingredients, mix until smooth and set it aside to rise. Sort of like bread. He nods his agreement to this. Following step by step directions isn't a difficult task, and he has mixed up certain items before. Flour has a different texture and look then sugar; sugar is crystalized and gritty feeling to the touch. The curly little fin like a single hair bobs just above the counter edge as Cowrie hovers about like a fishy hoverboard. 3 x.20

Cookies and as such, breads, are made with grain, which comes from the ground. After washing his hands, Flare pats his rough skin dry with a spare towel. brushing the countertop flour with his fingertips... the grind on the flour is using something sharp and rough to break up the grain before crushing it with stone. He's seen the mills in the desert, and they mostly do crushing and chopping with stone blades and wheels. It isn't the same sort of grains he'd find if going shopping in the bazaar. The grind is different on the flour in the bowl, but probably just from a different grower. Slightly less grainy feeling. The ingredients surround a large empty mixing bowl. To start, he pours in the flour, which is first on the list. Wants the... reaction powder, the smaller one? He can tell salt apart, but its got a clumpier look then flour, and different coloring. As he pours in ingredients, curious fish eyes watch him work. She is curious. 4 x.20

Instead of reaching for the metal whisk beside the bowl, the elementalized tumaian swirls his free hand into the bowl as he adds the dry ingredients, manuvering the ingredients about as if he's mixing up fertilizer for his bonsai. Most of what is in the bowl came from the earth somehow, but processed down into a mixable mess. White and off white mix together as he rolls the bowl slightly to the movement of his hand and wrist, before stopping this and taking his hand free of the mixed white material. The egg feels so strange in his hands, because he can sense it. There is nothing in there, but a void. When the shell splits into the bowl, the yellow yolk egg is nothing special. He's not handled eggs much, if at all. The wet ingredients come in and back in goes his hand, swirling the materials, squishing the liquids into the dry ingredients until a ball of dough is made. The old woman comes back in and thanks him for the mixing work. Not too often that she sees someone do mixing with their hands. Or with a fish being a supervisor. 5 5.0 -fin x.20
