Leth simultaniously knew exactly why she placed herself in this position, and pondered on her own decision-making that led her to getting to this point. It had sounded like fun to take a few hatchlings out. She neglected to think that the hatchlings who came in with their feral mother (long story - Vidarr brouhght back home a hen with a few additions in tow) weren't nearly as friendly as their domestically hatched siblings. Considering just how ' friendly' the hatchlings were in normal conditions, Vridi and Riohdr weren't exactly.. peachy right now. It was perhaps an... over simplified vision of how the days went when she decided to take a hatchling sarane out. She always wanted to plan the days going better than they usually... did. Rio and Vridi weren't happy to be wrestled away from their mum this morning - and even less happy about the commotion involved in obtaining them. Suffice to say Lethalia hadn't been about to wrestle a full-grown aggressive hen for them, so Esti helped her out with that. None of them were interested in questioning the brood queen, but the satyr worried she'd set herself up for future rows between Selah and Esti. Riodhr lv|0.1 ly|0.1 Vridi lv|0.1 ly|0.1 |1|

Once safely away from their enraged mother, they were some of the few little ones Lethalia found hefting around in boxy carriers, unable to even swaddle them into compliance. If nothing else, the satyr was determined. You had to be with these kind of creatures - they weren't going to just decide they were willing to work with you without interventions of sorts. Time spent along with their owner still in carriers still counted, right? Lethalia thought to drop by somewhere nearby so she could just walk instead of inflicting the screaming carriers on Mavelle today. Something like that little quest cotttage or the mines, or even just playing in the river shallows, it wasn't like the little ones needed to do much. Sour enough by the walk to the end of the road alone, Lethalia was feeling a bit too frazzled to be dealing with the neighbour who began hailing her from his gate. Ugh. Couldn't he tell she had her hands full just this fucking moment?! Marvin was... not the first person on her list to talk to basically ever. He was just a bit too young, well-learned and born with a bejweled spoon in his mouth. It couldn't even be someone elderly! At least then she would feel a little better about herself for helping them. |2|

To top it off, Marvin was one of those sorts of 'country' men. His house sat on the very edge of the city, his house the last that of the real pavement of Miisaa. Of course, he deigned himself being at the 'end' of the street without regard to the dirt road and accompanying farmland sprawl that stretched miles beyond him. Maybe once upon a time, before the city developed, this house had been the furthest out. Marv himself was too young to remember such a time; the farm he kept hadn't been built up by this youngling's hands. For better or worse though, she was too enterprising to snub one of the locals directly flagging her down. She'd have to pass him every day after, and even if he wasn't the more 'proper' sort of country, he was still the person who kept an eye on all the comings and goings of the road. That was too valuble of an asset to offend... even if he was a dweeb. Reluctantly, she called back a hello and ambled up to the gate where he waited. The hatchlings wailed all the more for the stop. "Lethalia! Oh, oh - I was going to post a note at Jolyne's board, but someone I know is so much better!!" |3|

The satyr looked at him with only a forced twinge of a smile, pinning one shivering crate to her side a little more firmly with her elbow. "Y'ain't even tol'me whatca want, Marv." He looked decidedly too happy at the the dragons in miniature she hefted. "The little beasts! They hunt, don't they?""They kinda' made for it. 'M not sellin these'uns." Where exactly was this going? "I had hoped I could ask you - for a favor, not the sarane! Well, about the sarane, but not buying them," Marvin began, hurring to follow up at the woman's flat eyes, "My farm has been overrun with mice! They're chewing straps through all of my equipment and a scrap of food can't hit the floor without bringing out a swarm of them! Open the barn door and you'd swear the floor was moving. I think that's where they're hiding out."And Lethalia thought she could talk. Gods. Well, this wasn't the outing she'd been looking for these girls, but Viridi and Riodhr could do the task as well as any other hatchling. Her arms were beginning to ache hefing around hens who were a little too big to be lugging around, and this was as good of a project with the henlings as anything else. |4|

Realizing she was putting herself at risk of future favors, Lethalia sighed and told him "Sure, supposin' y'still rewardin' like if'ya posted it, righ'?"Marv looked taken aback, but recovered quickly. "Yes - of course! Just get rid of those things!"Escorting her away to the barn behind a (rather lavish, for the area) house, the mammalian made to skitter away the moment Lethalia set to unleashing the sarane hatchlings right outside of the door. As she was unwinding a blanket from Vridi's fisted claws, she turned and snapped "Y'stay here, kid!" She was pretty sure he froze at the sheer shock of someone addressing him as such. "Y'gonna go in wit'us," Lethalia explained slowly, standing up once she freed the hen, "'n I'm gonna be nice enough t' letya know how y'don't jus' invite back more vermin.""E-excuse me?!"Lethalia corralled the freed hatchlings between her hooves, even though both girls were doubly curious about the amount of scratching going on behind that door. "Y'gonna need fixin' a lot of things, or y'be callin' me back in a month er two. And I ain't fixin' shit fer someone a second time." Riodhr lv|1 ly|1 Vridi lv|1 ly|1 |5|

No true altruism in her offer. Either it was help the poor fool in over his head, or end up 'invited' back in to help when everything kept going wrong. It was already risk enough her friendliness would bite her in the ass, there was no way she was signing up for more than intended. Not doing it, but also not burning the brige by turning him down. Pushing him around was a risk, but he seemed young and inexperienced enough that it would stand. "Oh - well-well - oh-okay then," Marvin decided at length, turning back towards the barn along with her. Leth didn't let him catch the sigh of relief that she'd been right. "Alrigh', les' do a walk 'round th'barn first. Start lookin' for ways they gettin' in, go from there. Let the girls start some cleanup ou'here." The hatchlings didn't need much convincing to scurry up to the barn, for it contained noises that were of peak interest to carnivorous babies. Mice were still perfect prey for such tiny things so close to the shell. Leth loved this stage of their growth, as much as she was also grateful for the brevity of how long they'd be little menaces. |6|

"Don't dragons breathe fire?" Marv asked, his trepidation blowing his eyes wide at Vridi and Rio clamoring right up to his pristine-appearing barn. "Most'a sarane don't," she said flatly, though lacking in enthusiasm to be his educator. She wasn't about to further the conversation by getting into injections. When that didn't seem to be enough to soothe his bunched brow, she followed up with "These'uns definitely don't." It seemed like it ought to be common knowledge if you lived here, let alone the fact that the sarane weren't even really considered true dragons like the sentient ones found in the canyons. If she could piece such information together as a verifiable idiot, what was someone who was well read doing not knowing anything? Lethalia chose to leave the conversation where it was, lest she let it leave even more of a bitter taste behind. She was unsure yet if she found the kid endearing or a pest beyond any measure. Either judgement wouldn't shorten the dalliance here, so the woman tucked away her mental bitching for another day. Still, she couldn't entirely dismiss the prickle up her back near every time Marv decided to open his mouth. Instead the girls provided her with a better opportunity for small talk, attracted to a gap between the foundation and siding like little magnets. |7|

"See here - they foun' us somethin'," she pointed out, kneeling to where the hatchlings glued themselves to. "Prob'ly y'whole issue - practically givin'em a 'front door." The sarane babies couldn't manage to wedge under it themselves, but the girls sure tried. Both curious muzzles wedged under the sliver of a gap, wailing their demands to get in there and causing an inordinate amount of squallor about their prey being out of reach. Leth turned to the kid, brow furrowing to see a WATT pad in his hands. Had this little dweeb even been listening to her requested help? Unexpectedly a flash went off and dazed the little dragons wailing at the precpice, not to mention their owner. Marvin's demeanor turned simpering again as he tapped at the screen at gods-knew-what. "Sorry I left the flash on." At the satyr's continued stare he caught on enough to slowly look up at her, flinching like they weren't both prey animals. "I'll remember if I take pictures! Then I can send them to Mother and tell her in what poor repair this place is in!!" Another tinny simulated 'snap' of a camera lens came from the pad, presumably another capture without flash this time around. |8|

"Ooookayy," Lethalia drew out, looking away to usher the hatchlings on instead of allowing Marvin to see the aghast look on her face. "Well. Gotta' be more, lessgo.""More?! There could be more!? How awful!" Marv didn't quite share her reasoning for being aghast, but hopefully it would modivate him to get his own ass moving. Lethalia was actually surprised to not find the barn separating from it's foundation in any other spots, though pointed out several other things in need of obvious repair that Marvin would scramble to snap a picture of. Now she was almost starting to have fun, especially when it came to pointing out the expensive looking weathervane had a tilt to one side. Much as she was getting enjoyment from making him scramble, they'd also be able to leave the sooner the real problem was dealt with. Leth wrangled up her sarane hatchlings best she could to shoo them towards the barn door, which didn't take much encouragement when they heard what was going on in there. Marvin strained to open the door, but it barely needed a crack before several vermin spilled out of the opening. (The girls made sure those saw a quick end.) He was right - the floor fucking moved the moment Leth helped him haul the doors open. |9|

Once upon a time there were saddles on stands, now reduced to rawhide stitching and the wood saddle tree. Bits and buckles had fallen to the ground where the bridle leather had been eaten away around them. The grain sacks were definiely empty by now, but squirmed. Time to re-think this. Burn it all down. Where did she leave Esti!? Marv didn't much seem to enjoy the idea of just burning the crawling mass to the ground, even when Lethalia shrugged and mentioned insurance money. "Mother would be furious if I managed to catch fire to my property!""More'n already?" Leth pressed, watching Vridi and Rio scramble as fast as their tiny legs would carry them. Even with the girls' fervor, they'd never clear this place out. For every mouse they caught there was another scurrying up a post or dissappearing into a stall door. They'd be fit to burst if they did manage to catch all of the vermin. "Think 'bout it. Which is worse? Tellin' mama y'can't keep up with y'little mouse problem, or sayin' some asshole's fire-breather escaped? Then - bam, new barn." That got the antelope at a full mute pause with his chin in his hand, in deep contemplation for quite some time. At last, there seemed to be one thing they could agree upon. There could be no mouse problem with no barn. Which 'mysteriously' caught afire that night. Huh, funny how that worked. Leth was just pleased to get paid for her lost afternoon.
