It had taken a while for Donner to get used to his costume. It turned out that seekers didn't enjoy being dressed up in jingly bells and shiny snowflake very much. That didn't stop Fiera from doing it anyway however, and after a lot of shouting him down when he tried to rip them off with his teeth, Fiera finally got Donner to settle down. Jingle bells were wrapped around each ankle to make him jingle as he walked, and a large snowflake that glowed with an artificial light was tied around his neck to give him a more... friendly and winter solstice themed appearance for the audience. She had also washed his fur until it was pristine and white and brushed him as much as she could to make him extra fluffy and appealing. It would have to work. "Hello everyone!" She said, sauntering out from backstage. The humanish was wrapped up in all sorts of cozy looking exotic furs. "Happy solstice! And introducing to you- Donner! Come here, bud!" She said, waving her seeker on. (Tricks used: Come, Items used: Jingle bells, snowflake, brush, shampoo.)

"Snowtracker seekers might not be the most attractive creatures of the north." She said, thinking of how more... cartoony creatures were generally the preferred critters of the season. "But he's just as well adapted to the cold as anyone else here! Allow me to demonstrate." A large divot in the ground had been filled with snow, and she intended to use it to its full capacity. "Donner, follow me." She said more quietly, and the seeker began to walk alongside her. She ran her fingers through his fur as they walked, pulling out a loose chunk of undercoat. "Look at his fur! Thick and soft, perfect for keeping him warm in cold climates. But of course, it can be hard for predators to find their prey in such snowy weather, but he's well adapted for that too! Imagine an elk, tall and thick, kept warm by its sheer size. That's no match for him!" She said, and pulled out a bone. Holding it before him, she gave the command. "Donner, rend!" She said. The seeker lashed out, and Fiera winced at the impact as his claws sliced through the material, splintering it.

The audience didn't seem particularly impressed by that- not even when she threw him a few chunks of meat that had been frozen solid to show off his impressive bite force- but she had other tricks up her sleeve. Cuter ones. "Of course, snowtracker seekers are not all about ferocity- they're quite mobile as well." From there, she pulled something else from her furry cloak- a little metal tube. She clicked a button on the end of it, producing a bright red dot on the ground. Donner's eyes widened at the sight and he almost immediately leapt upon it, pressing both paws over what he probably thought was a small animal on the ground. That earned a few giggles from the crowd. From there she whizzed it away, toward the pit of snow. The seeker was off like a shot, leaping right in and sending up a huge spray of snow.

"As we all know, snow dampens sound. How can seekers possibly communicate with other members of their pack in that sort of environment? Well- I'll show you. Donner, screech!" She called out, cupping her hands around her mouth to make sure he could hear her. Sure enough, a loud screech soon emanated from the pile- muffled, but still loud enough to be heard. That got an even more positive reaction from the crowd, especially once he popped his head back above the snow, sneezing loudly to clear it from his nose. "Isn't that cute, everyone! And look how hardy he is- not affected by the freezing effects of the cold at all!" She said, and sure enough he came hopping back out again happily, shaking his pelt like a dog to clear off the snow that was clinging to it, but ultimately no worse for wear than when he leapt in.

Time for the grand finale. "But of course, my seeker's best power isn't merely his RESISTANCE to the cold, oh no- it's his ability to CREATE it!" She said, not elaborating any further. She wanted this to be a surprise, after all. She turned to her pet. "Donner, sit!" She said, and he hesitantly sunk onto his haunches. Good- Fiera wanted them to have the best view possible of this. "Now- breathe!" She said, pointing at him while giving the final command. He tilted his head with understanding before taking a deep, heaving breath. Fiera could see some members of the audience lean in to watch with anticipation. Then he let it out, sending a flurry of snowflakes and ice into the air, condensing into a fine hazy mist above their heads. The audience murmured appreciatively, and that soon broke into applause as Fiera gave her final bow. Donner perhaps wasn't the most orthodox contest hall creature, but it was clear that he had done the job right.

Lumie, Custom Yumenokei Level: 9 | Loyalty: 25 Stamina: 1 Strength: 0 Resistance: 0 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 10 Special Abilities: Glide, Ethreal, Cold Resistance, Magical Moves: Moonlight, Travel by Moonlight, Spirit of Winter, Freeze Knows: Moonlight (4), Freeze (5) It was time. Silver had been waiting backstage with Quin and Lumie, twiddling their thumbs and fidgeting uncomfortably. Usually, the last few minutes of a show were full of fussing over the last few tufts of unwieldy fur, but that wasn’t necessary with Lumie. No matter how much they would like to, brushing her wouldn’t do them any good. All they could do was wait for their turn. “Alright Quin, you know the rules, stay here okay? We’ll be back in a few minutes,” they said. Just a few minutes, that’s all it took. They reminded themselves of that fact and grabbed their equipment. “Are you ready, Lumie?” they asked. She hopped up next to them, but as usual, she did not make a noise. Silver was fine with that. They talked enough for both of them. The stage had been set. Everything was in the right place. Now all they had to do was not flub the performance. Easy peasy! In theory, anyway… [138.95, 9.4]

As Silver stepped on to the stage, Lumie was nowhere to be seen. They walked out into the middle of the stage, and silently placed a piece of ice on the floor in front of them. The peculiar ice had come from the mansion, and somehow, despite looking like it was always melting, it never actually changed size. It was perfect for a winter show.
“Presenting, the ghost of winter - Lumie!” they said, standing back and letting the ice take center stage.
Lumie knew that this was her cue, so she hopped down into view and gracefully landed on the piece of ice. She stood there, balanced with just the tips of her front paws on the ice. Since she didn’t have any weight, the piece of ice didn’t move at all, and she was able to hover there comfortably.
“As you can see, Lumie has perfect control over ice and snow,” they said.

While she was showing off her ice balancing skills, Silver was preparing the next part of the show. They had an unusual potion that was cold to the touch. They popped the cork off of the bottle and threw it as high into the air as they could manage. With a little help from their magic, they made sure that it tipped upside down and spilled its contents onto the stage.
Snow began to pour out of the bottle and cover both Lumie and the stage in the cold white dust. They held it there for as long as they could, letting the seemingly endless snow flow out onto the stage. Once it was all spread out, it was just enough to decorate the scene … and make it very cold.
“As you can see, the cold doesn’t bother her one bit,” they said, stepping back into the light. Lumie had continued to balance on the freezing cold ice the entire time, waiting for the next display.

“Not only is she not bothered by the cold, but she also has a trick for finding things hidden in the endless white snow,” Silver said. While they were setting up, they had hidden a soft toy that had pure white fur. It was extremely hard to see, if only they didn’t already know where it was.
Lumie hopped down off of the ice and pretended to look around, even though she already knew where the toy was. All part of the show. She didn’t understand it, but it was clearly important to Silver, so she was willing to put up with it. Besides, what Yumenokei didn’t love a little drama and art?
As she approached the plush, she lit it up with a glimmer of moonlight that she summoned. It went from being completely invisible to practically glowing with the pretty light coming off of it. She tapped it gently with her paw as if to say ‘look I found it!’.

The next trick needed no introduction. The beauty of it spoke for itself. Silver pulled out yet another vial, this one filled with colorful sparkling water. Just like last time, they pulled the stopper from the bottle and tossed it up into the air. The method might be the same, but the outcome was very different.
Lumie jumped into the air, perfectly timed with the liquid beginning to spill out of the bottle. She used her magical powers to freeze the drops of liquid as they dripped out, causing them to rain to the ground as shards of ice.
One by one the shards of ice fell into the snow, glittering in the light on the way down. Together, the light shining through the many bits of colored ice made a beautiful pattern, like sunlight shining through a stained glass window. The bright colors lit up the bright white snow, making the effect just that much more spectacular.

Contests weren’t really Noa’s favorite way to spend his time. He acknowledged that they had some value -- that the prizes offered by the organizing parties had some value, at least -- and Rhys had a great fondness for them. It was generally Rhys’s idea to enter one or another of these things, though the Faeron couldn’t very well insert himself into every occasion. In this case, however, the one performing was Avander, and it fell to Noa himself to choreograph the whole affair. It had taken more thought and work than Noa had wanted to spare, but well, there was no point in signing up only to make a terrible showing of it. Rhys had been an encouraging spectator this time, offering whatever suggestions he could, though some of them had been nonsense. And then, the appointed date came, and they arrived at the venue. Two acts preceded them, to which Noa paid very little attention -- only enough to understand that there were a great deal of props, of which they had none. Noa didn’t have the patience to plan out elaborate segments with props the way that Rhys did, and so the accoutrements of their routine were on this occasion created entirely by Rhys and himself.

Once they were given their cue to prepare to go on, they began setting up what they needed for the show. It was Rhys who set the stage by using his abilities to grow an intricate latticework of vines, which were then gently hosed down with water so that the effect would be more dramatic when Avander acted upon them. For once, that was the only preparation they needed. Noa strode out onto the stage, wearing paler blues than his usual wardrobe.
“I take it you all are gathered here to see a winter spectacle,” he said. If his tone sounded bored, well, acting had never been a great passion of his. “Well, look no further.”
Noa snapped his fingers, giving Avander a telepathic cue so as to preserve the drama of the moment. One minute Noa was alone on stage, and the next, Avander appeared at his side, neat as you please. It wasn’t exactly on theme, but it added a certain element of flair to their entrance, and indeed Noa could clock some expressions of surprise among the audience -- though maybe that was more for Avander’s size than anything, even if Avander had been shown here before.

Noa was in no mood for speeches or preamble, so they launched immediately into the ‘show’. On another unspoken signal, Avander lunged forward and bit into the vines, his bite imbued with a cold energy that Noa could feel even from some distance away. The vines he latched onto froze, and then the ice spread along the rest, slowly, until the whole network of vines were frozen and dripping, creating a sort of ornate ice fence around the arena.
From there, Avander summoned an ice wall in the middle of the stage. It spiraled up, icicles upon icicles, until it formed a towering mass of jagged-looking spires. Avander, who was more of a showman than Noa, prowled around it in a somewhat exaggerated fashion, tossing his fine silk mane a few times. Avander, at least, was enjoying himself, liking very much to be on display and the center of attention.
And then came a slightly unpleasant part, though they had practiced for it. Avander lashed out at the wall with his tail for two resounding strikes. The spires cut into him, though not as much as they could have -- a fact that Noa pointed out for the audience. “We don’t recommend this method of breaking the ice, so to speak,” he said. “But fortunately Avander’s hide is thick enough to take the punishment.”

All of this was to set up for what happened next. Avander stood back from the wall now, and loosed a resonant roar, which neatly shattered the ice wall into shards and powder. Then he concentrated a moment, the air around him distorting with energy, before rearing on his hind legs and whipping up the air with a chill wind. The finer particles of the broken ice wall swirled along the eddies of air, and Avander lifted off the ground and launched into the air through this icy mist.
Once he was in the air, he did a turn about the ring, breathing a plume of ice that descended in glittering curtains. Noa, who had retaken his place in the center of the ring, was untouched by it, but the chill of it wasn’t a comfortable experience. By the time Avander made his delicate landing, Noa was ready for the whole affair to be over.
He made a few trite comments, and Avander preened a little, before Noa took a bow and they exited the stage. Rhys greeted them with his usual post-show enthusiasm, which he must have conveyed to Avander also, as the Wiurn made a pleased rumble.
All in all, not a terrible showing.
