Renathan was really busy during each 'cold part' of the year. Plenty of people waited until the back half of the year in order to order holiday presents for their family members (or for theirselves, he didn't judge at all) from his business, so he was always so very busy. He comes out almost a little too late in the month to be able to pick up any quests- after a full day of work where he was already pretty tired. Auburn sat on his shoulder quietly preening herself as he made his way to the quest board. "I bet there won't even be any quests available, Auburn." He talks to her, and she responds with a little chirrup. He hadn't really talked much that day, as it was a near full work day spent over the forge. The cold air outside was actually really soothing on his still somehow over-hot fur. At least the walk to the quest board, regardless of whether or not it would be fruitful, was enjoyable in the winding down light of the evening.[1]

Auburn loved this time of year, even if Renathan had stopped finding the cold weather as much as a novelty over the time he had been in the Labs City. He had gotten to where he didn't mind it as much this year. Perhaps it really was milder, but it sort of felt like it had been. Today it was certainly soothing against his fur. In addition to this, the air was quite clear and the sky was lovely this fall day. Perhaps, with any luck, he would have time to go on a walk tonight? He steps up to the Quest Board before he even knows it- and finds comfort in the fact that there were a few different papers hanging off of the worn cork. Perhaps he would find something easy and chill to do this evening, he thought.
The izer preened on his shoulder as he went through the papers.

There wasn't anything that caught his eye at first, but he soon catches sight of someone coming from a specific direction off to his side. 'Hello!' the person greets them. He lifts his face up, eyes focusing now on the individual that appeared to be wearing a white lab coat. 'I thought there wouldn't be anyone else coming out- you're the last!' The person states. The russet mammalian takes them in. The individual is an avian with bright red eyes and white feathers, and a long neck. They had a great crest of black feathers upon their head and appeared to have a tail of long peacock-like black feathers with ruby-red spots on them. He reaches out to shake their hand with his own since it was offered to him. Auburn trills in reply as well as Renathan takes a flyer from their hand. Apparently this individual was part of WELP Corp, and they were offering a quest to simply come out and hang out at a bonfire?

Renathan knew that this month was generally associated entirely with a holiday that was localized to the Labs City referred to as 'The Incursion'. Renathan had seen that this year's celebration had included a bunch of little lawn ornaments on city properties that looked like Robots. They did not appear to be functional, but they were interesting nonetheless. Apparently the head scientist had disappeared years before Renathan had even emigrated here, and this holiday seemed to be tinged with mystery due to it. He never really considered it himself. He figured that there were plenty of reasons for someone to want to get out of the limelight enough to not even really be curious himself.
He waves to the individual, who walks away and joins back up with a little kapper individual and a much taller scientist who were speaking. All three of them left directly after this, leaving Renathan to hold the flyer in his hand to read it. "What do you think of this, Auburn?" He asks her jestingly and quite out of habit by this point.

Auburn trills back at him, twisting her head to give him a little bit of a mock-preening on one of his braids. "Now now, leave my braids alone hun." He coos at her, and though she was being sweet and cuddling him still she does drop the braid. The Flyer had a map on the back, and of course a nice little picture of a cartoony bonfire on the front. He had to admit that the presentation was excellent, it really did seem inviting. "Well I personally think we'll go!" He says, smiling beneath his mask. "It seems really laid back at least, and I want to learn about this WELP thing." What an odd name!
Renathan and Auburn return home quickly to get ready for the event. Renathan makes sure that Auburn is well fed, and then takes some treats for her anyway. He puts on a nice shawl that faded from a fiery red to a nice light gold at the ends. It shimmers in the light as he passes beneath the streetlamps towards the destination, following the map on the back.

Renathan was once always on guard everywhere he went. Pethia was nothing like his homeland, so he was never really able to calm down. At present day, the russet mammalian felt very laid back. The Labs City was quite safe compared to the rest of the land, and he was happy to be a denizen of it. He really didn't ever plan on leaving, though he thought it might be cool to go out on an expedition someday. The older he got, the less interested in it he was though. He really enjoyed his calm life now, with his stable job and his pets- like Auburn. The Bonfire was set up just outside of town, and though it was quite cold out (it was towards the end of November, after all) he did find the various Bonfires scattered about quite warm! He glances left and right, wondering where he should go. Was there anyone he knew around here? "What do you think, Auburn?"

There were so many people standing under the stars! It was almost as if the entire town was here! "I should have known about this before-hand, perhaps Catseye could have catered!" He fretted a little. It would have been quite nice to have been able to. He finds himself drawn to one of the nearby catering carts, which apparently was offering... Ah, this one had those really big cookies! He takes one in a nice red napkin and wraps it up nicely. It was so gooey and warm. He turns away from the crowd so that he could eat it in peace, lifting his mask up just enough to do so. He finds another cart nearby after he'd eaten his cookie, this one with pet treats. He grabs a couple for Auburn, and hand-feeds her while watching some scientists mill about around a bonfire closer to the road. He felt a little awkward, not really knowing where his place was.
He didn't really have friends, did he? Perhaps he should have invited one of his workers here with him.

That... He wasn't sure how to feel about that. He really did enjoy the peace and quiet. Sometimes he'd got out and breed orbaru with other people, and really- that was enough for him. Still, it was times like these where he felt super embarrassed. Everyone else seemed to have someone to hang out with. He mills around for a little while, going from cart to cart to check out the catering and see if there was anything that he liked enough to try a small portion of. Nothing really beat the cookie that he had from the beginning, that thing was -especially good-. Just the best gooey chocolate chip and almond that he could even imagine with just a hint of brown sugar dusting. Auburn seemed to like her treats too, the ones he'd picked up from a cart. Both of them gave him an idea for something that perhaps he would test out for the Catseye as a menu item. The idea was quite different, but he didn't really have anything on the menu for critters quite yet!

Renathan found himself a decent spot to sit down. He'd heard that there was apparently going to be fireworks that night? He stopped to ask a scientist about it, hoping that they would know- since he thought that this might be a little loud for critters. He was assured that the noise would not bother any of his critters, since they were reduced-noise fireworks. He had been really worried when someone had told him about the possibility of fireworks, since a lot of people had a lot of different kinds of creatures out that night. Fireworks were LOUD and most creatures would panic and perhaps even attack due to disorientation. How would they have made something like soundless fireworks?
He wanted to get a pretty close look at them, and since he had no one to meet out there he found himself one of the best spots available. "Don't worry Auburn, it's just going to be a little bit bright."

Auburn was as trusting as ever with Renathan. She always was practically glued to him. Perhaps it was good that he had been out with her that evening instead of any of his other pets, because she was the type that even if she got scared, she would be quite disinclined to bolt and would instead probably dig a little into the fur at his shoulders. It would be no big deal, even if the worst happened. Luckily for him, he was pretty far away from everyone else whenever the fireworks started. A few of the creatures were surprised by the bright lights, but the russet mammalian was quite amazed with how very soundless the fireworks were! In the otherwise quiet night, the faintest of pops could be heard and that was that! He really wished he knew how that worked!
Overall, it was a great night and a good idea for an outing. He was glad that he'd happened by the scientists so that he could attend!
