The day had well become dusk when the lights of the public park sparked to life, leading a promenade of people towards the open field in the middle. An invitation had been sent out, announcing the performance of a new theatrical act and, while the crowd's size could hardly match those of actual theatres, the turnout was looking to be pretty impressive all the same.
What better publicity for something only just debuted?
Among the crowd was also the mammalian, though she wasn't alone that night. It took her some time to ponder and wonder over who she might bring with her, as there were quite a few creatures in the kennel who would have loved a bit of entertainment in theatrical form.. though the list was somewhat narrowed by the amount of them who could actually understand the spoken word.
At least.. Darky rather hoped the spoken word was something in Common. Otherwise things could get tricky all around.

In truth she had little idea and fewer expectations as to what was waiting for her and the silent of the two harachiu, quietly perched on her shoulder. Noari certainly appreciated some forms of entertainment, and his perceptive nature seemed perfect for this type of performance, one which relied on paying attention to the details and the nuances. However, just as likely they could have faced something more pantomime, or, spirits forbid, 'interpretive' as the city folk sometimes called it.
The sphinx's people had a form and a place for re-enactments of the past, though usually they were more in the form of myths and stories retold with the occasional mimicry to go with it. Certainly nothing so elaborate as to require a stage (largely because her people simply had no method to constantly bring one along with them).
But the Tumai had forms of theatre, of street art of acting and oration, that she was familiar with. (2) Noari: 10 (2/5)

So, surely, this 'city form' couldn't be all that different, could it?
It was largely that reason which led her to decide for Noari, as he was less likely to interrupt for questions or specifications (at least, less so comparative to Fhér. Plus, Fhér had already had her fun outing during the camp-fire celebrations, so the sphinx felt like Noari was owed something similar at some point or another). And even then, his interruptions tended to be rather.. silent, more with quiet noises and gestures, than actual talking.
If nothing else, it could serve as a nice way for him to get accustomed to more people, perhaps even crowds. While she didn't know the exact nature of his upbringing from before he arrived to their little den, his general withdrawn nature and inability to speak seemed to speak to some form of isolation. It wasn't that he necessarily hated crowds, just that they weren't the first option in the list.

Something she didn't necessarily blame him, for if the world around you was several times bigger than yourself, its tough to feel safe. Even as the two made their way through the park, his perch on her shoulder kept closer to her neck than letting himself feel at ease, watching the various passing them, and who they passed in turn. It wasn't fear as such, the sphinx knew as much, for Noari wasn't cowardly.. Just a sense of reserve.
For her part, she smiled and tried to keep his spirits up, until they could finally reach the make-shift venue. And 'make-shift' tended to apply to the concept well, for the park was largely undertaken by rows upon rows of wooden benches, some even sitting at elevation in the back. All facing forwards, in a semi-circle towards a low wooden stage, with curtain backing. There were curtains to each side as well, the better to hide the wings, while various lights guided people to their spots.

Immediately before the venue itself were also various vendors, not entirely different to the camp-fire festivities, albeit with far less grilling being involved. A few were looking to sell trinkets (whether related to the play or not it was hard to tell so early in) but most were there for the real attraction - snacks and drinks. Good entertainment was always made better with a bit of food.
So, the sphinx paused at one to buy them a bit to tide over, as distraction if nothing else. A bit of popped corn in a little box (especially seeing as Noari could probably only stomach four of the pieces before his small frame would already be full). With that sorted, it was time to find the seats.
The etiquette of theatre-going was largely unknown to the sphinx, and so she didn't really have a concept of front rows versus back, or whether some places were considered better than others.

In her mind the vantage wasn't half as important as the relative comfort of not being smushed together with others so side-by-side. So, she quite quickly turned and headed towards the backs rows, where some of the seats were a little elevated. It meant having to climb some stairs (some of which were a bit more rickety than others), but ultimately most of the crowd seemed to pool towards the front and middle rows, leaving the back one's fairly roomy for the few straying spectators remaining.
As she settled, she offered one of the popcorns to the harachiu, who regarded it with some scepticism. "It's good," she encouraged him, "I think these ones have like butter on them too. Try it out and if you don't like it, you can always put it back."
Green eyes studied her, then the popcorn in his hands. It was large enough to be a melon to a normal person, though only a fraction of the comparative weight.

As he bit into it, it also proved to be mostly made of air. There's litter resistance to the bite, tough the oddly puffed corn certainly gets more taffy once compressed. And then the salt and butter hits him, and Noari pauses, staring ahead. It's an expression the sphinx recognizes all too well, for it wasn't entirely too different to what she had done the first time she'd tried this type of snack. Staring down, the hara quickly begins to take more bites.
"There you go," Darky smiles, "Just be careful with the bit in the middle, sometimes there's still some kernel there." Certain a fair many almost surgically thin pieces stuck between teeth taught her that lesson..
As the two enjoy their snacks, the crowd ahead continues to gather and add to the general murmuring. The more people arrive, the greater the buzzing, and the grander the feeling of anticipation, as if the very energy of each individual keeps adding to the atmosphere.

Until finally, a light turns to the stage and someone walks out from the wings. They are certainly dressed in a theatrical-looking robe, as even in the City you could hardly see people walk around in something so outdated (or stylized). The face paint and decorations almost make it difficult to tell if they are even male or female, until a higher but clearly rougher voice begins to speak, welcoming everyone to the theatre troupe's grand début of their new play.
Unfortunately the name rather escapes both pairs of ears, as they introduces it in what almost sounds like another language. Considering their attire and motifs, it's likely the source material of the play could be from another culture (or even time period) as well.
Even so, despite the distance from back row to stage, Darky finds it's rather easy to still see and hear what's being said, as it only then occurs to her that much of this production could be words-based as well as visuals.

The narrator gives a short premise of the tale, of two nations at odds with one another, while secrecies and trysts of their various heroes entwine into a dramatic culmination of events. At least.. on the surface. It's quite evident quickly in that all of this is given a rather comedic twist, almost as if intending to rewrite the tragedy into something more tongue-in-cheek parody. (Which is just as well, since she'd rather prefer a comedy over tragedy anyway, and in any case the hara doesn't seen further reasons to be suspicious of the world).
A series of instructions are then given to the audience, to have them engage with the production as well, calling them to make certain sounds when certain words or names are dropped, and even having them call out loudly a particular phrase in response to a prompt.
Then, at last, the production can begin in proper. The narrator leaves the stage, and the music begins.

The two hours seem to fly by in the blink of a moment, so much so that the sphinx almost doesn't even notice the short break in between the two acts. The premise proves to be every bit true to the concept of parody, taking on the often so dramatized events of a famous tale (Or so she assumes, as the source material is still a little unknown to her) and turns them comedic, almost slap-stick, and occasionally even just that bit lewd.
But the crowd loves it, and both sphinx and hara find themselves laughing more often than not, even as the hara seems to request a few clarifications here and there about certain jokes or meanings (For it's difficult to laugh at something that has cultural context, when one's own culture seems to follow only those who raised you).
By the end of the night, the crowd roars in applause and cheers as the final curtains close, with the sphinx and hara readily joining in as well.
