Leafy frowned as her hand connected with a strange, glowing flower. It wasn’t any species that she could identify. She held it up for Cicero to see, but had to pull it away when the Aolani tried to pluck it free from her fingers. She wasn’t sure what the flower was exactly and she didn’t want him to get hurt. She wondered if she should drop the flower out of fear of it being poisonous, but for some reason she felt she should hold onto it. If it made her sick, she could always get rid of it then. If it was toxic, she’d likely already be infected and dropping it now wouldn’t change everything. She could only keep it away from Cicero for now. She held the flower delicately in her hand and continued to explore the rest of the room. There weren’t any other flowers, which Leafy found herself being disappointed in.

Cicero appeared quite curious about the room, though he made no move to fly from her shoulder. Leafy felt that it was a nice change from her having to babysit baby pets all the time. She had been making a bigger effort in spending time raising her offspring. She was glad that they grew up at the pace she required. It was nice to spend some time with a creature that was more independent. Even if the Aolani wasn’t the brightest creature, he would still be able to take care of himself. Leafy was glad that she could be the caretaker for so many pets, but it certainly got exhausting at points. Adult pets also tended to have an established personality. Baby pets tended to have two different modes, sleepy and energetic. Beyond that, there was not much more to be said about them. They were curious creatures that needed constant watching.

Leafy glanced around the rest of the room. There were more knickknacks that she could investigate. She headed over to a table that houses various statues. There were some rather unusual ones. The largest one on the table depicted a Chelcauda made entirely of stars. The sight was rather pretty but it was marred by the skeleton figure that was depicted as riding it. Leafy tried to think of what it might be replicating, but she came up with nothing. She glanced over at Cicero who was peering at the statues as well. He hopped down from her shoulder and onto the table. He nudged some of the statues with his beak, chirping happily when he knocked them over. Leafy felt a bit guilty as her pet cause some destruction, but the statues appeared durable enough to survive some roughhousing from her pet. She liked watching the pet have fun at least.

The statues were placed around the rest of the room as well, Leafy just hadn’t taken the time to notice them yet. She cringed as the Aolani attacked more statures. He was definitely being destructive for the sake of destruction. She stepped over to investigate the damage. Thankfully the statues hadn’t broken, which served to confirm their durability. Leafy wondered what they had been made of. Ordinary stone would have likely chipped when it hit the surfaces of the tables and the ground. The statues were all interesting in a strangely hypnotic way. There were statues of Vulticus with giant ears and fangs. Others depicted Wiurn without heads. Those were the creepiest. She shuddered to think of what would happen if she came across such a creature in real life. She stepped closer to the Aolani and lowered her arms for the creature to climb up onto. Cicero was eager to oblige.

She liked having the Aolani close. The softness of the halfbreed comforted her. When she felt his feathers, it was just like touching soft cotton. At least that’s the closest thing that she could compare it to. She looked around the rest of the statues. There were a bunch that she hadn’t had a chance to look at yet. She stepped closer to one of the largest statues in the room. This one didn’t depict any creature she could identify. This one instead replicated a giant shape. It was hard to identify what it was exactly. It was almost as though the statue was depicting a shadow. She leaned forward to touch the shadow statue with the palm of her left hand. It felt cool under her touch, but it was solid, very much unlike a shadow. Cicero chirped happily at the statue and went to climb up on top of it.

What strange pretty things! The dreamcatcher seems to hang with no strings; and a dragonfly swirls about it with mystical glowing colors. [51-65]

The longer Leafy stared at the statue, the more weirded out she got. Cicero seemed perfectly fine with it, however. He was eager to perch on the very top of the statue and look around the room. It seemed pretty convenient. It almost made Leafy wish she was smaller and had more things to climb on. But being so small would make it a lot more difficult to climb trees. Leafy liked climbing trees too much. She wouldn’t change that to climb some statues. Besides, outside of the mansion there were plenty of statues that would be large enough for her to climb. When she could no longer stand looking at the statue, she collected the Aolani and began to walk towards the door. She hoped that it wasn’t locked. This room was really starting to give her the creeps. To her surprise, the door opened easily once she twisted the handle.

When Leafy pushed open the door, she was immediately greeted by one of the small, strange dragonflies that appeared to be commonplace in the mansion for the month. She scooped the little creature up and placed it in her backpack with the rest of the objects she had collected. The pocket pets were strangely compliant with her wishes. She certainly wouldn’t complain about that. In fact, it would likely be easier if some of her larger creatures were more inclined to stay put. She liked the Aolani she traveled with currently. The creature might be a bit destructive, but it seemed to like using her as a perch. That certainly made it easier to keep in place. The rest of the room was rather difficult to see. It was dark save for a mysterious glowing fog that filled the room. Leafy shivered as she reached out to touch the strange fog.

The fog was cool to the touch, almost unnaturally so. It reminded her a bit of Cicero. They were both elemental based. If Cicero’s DNA was a bit looser, he might be exactly like fog. She reached a hand up and ran a finger along the top of the Aolani’s head. Leafy thought for a moment of all the strange creatures contained in her backpack. She certainly hoped the strange ghost like creatures didn’t eat the dragonflies. They were light in the backpack, almost as though they didn’t exist at all. It seemed like a different change in pace to travel with a creature that only needed to perch on her shoulder. She didn’t have to wrap her arms around the Aolani to carry him. It reminded her again that she was dealing with a fully-grown pet. He might have had some childish tendencies, but he knew enough about how the world worked.

Once Leafy’s eyes had adjusted to the darkness, she could get a clearer look around the room. The room itself was on the smaller side. If she took five steps, she’d likely be able to cross the entire length of the room. Leafy wasn’t particularly claustrophobic, but being in an enclosed space was not exactly comfortable. She worried for a moment that Cicero would be bothered by the fairly tight space, but in the darkness, he couldn’t see much and as such, he wasn’t bothered by it. Sometimes it paid to be a bit simple minded. There wasn’t much in the way of furniture in the room. It was mostly fog and walls. The floor was a smooth white tile that was covered in confetti. Leafy wasn’t sure why the mansion had created such a room. It seemed almost like it would be used as a storage closet or something like that.

There was no discernible door that she could see and the one that she had entered through had mysteriously vanished. Being locked in a tiny room might have bothered most other people, but Leafy had a lot of experience mining. In the mines it was a lot more dangerous to be trapped in a small space, but even then, Leafy was often unbothered by the prospect. Cicero snuggled closer to the girl. She was certain that it was more out of his desire for warmth than it was out of companionship to her. She hadn’t known the halfbreed very long. He wasn’t that familiar with her yet. She glanced around the rest of the room. There would be a way out of here, it was simply a matter of finding out where that was. The only furniture in the room was a small table. She walked over to it, deciding that it would be the best place to start.

The creature had been watching the individual for some time this month; always in the background, always curious. For a long time, the shy creature preferred to stay in the background, at times watching the individual make great strides, at other times have difficulty. The truth was that the creature didn't know about anything that came from outside of the mansion grounds, and it was quite curious about this strange being. Finally, the creature steps out from the shadows away, slowly pushing open a door in the process, poking it's antlers and face into the room to watch. This made a creaking noise; but the creature didn't scramble off yet. [66-70]

A strange noise suddenly filled the room. It sounded like a door opening. Leafy held her breath, not wanting whatever it was that had entered the small room to find her. When she wasn’t immediately attacked, she allowed herself a chance to sneak a peak at the creature that had entered. She was expecting a horrific monster to ambush her, but what she found was much more graceful than a monster. The creature sparkled in the dim light of the glowing fog. It was canine like with sharp teeth and a lanky body. However, it appeared more curious than threatening. If it intended to trap her, it had picked the optimal time to do so, but the creature’s body language was not menacing at all. Cicero perked up at the visitor. His wispy body stiffened as he sat up taller to get a better view of the strange, new creature. The silence was a bit unbearable to Leafy. She decided that she would make the first move, trying to keep things calm between the three of them.
“Hello there! It’s always nice to make new friends, isn’t it?” Leafy tried to keep her voice light and airy as she spoke. She might have been a bit frightened, but she didn’t want the creature knowing that.

The creature was cautious and anxious as soon as it found itself face to face with the being. It certainly did look like a deer in headlights a bit for a moment, and then curiously sniffed towards the being. It's eyes seemed nearly intelligent as it watched, warily. After a moment of sniffing the creature was not sure what to do next; it stood there for a moment, awaiting some sort of indication as to what to do.

It seemed the creature was just as startled as she was. The creature was still curious about her, which was a much better thing than being threatened by her. Leafy had tamed a few mansion critters in her time. Most of them had liked the treasures found within the mansion and would be excited when they saw so many gathered up in one place. She slowly reached behind her and into a side compartment of her backpack. She grabbed a handful of crystal shards and moved carefully as she pulled them out. As the creature sniffed her, Cicero chirped out a friendly greeting. Leafy was suddenly glad that the creature was rather dim-witted. A smarter creature might have been threatened by the wild critter’s sharp teeth and antlers. The Aolani was relaxed because Leafy had given no indication that he shouldn’t be.
“Here we go. This is something I found in the mansion earlier. Have you ever seen such a pretty object?” she kept her voice low and soothing as she spoke. She didn’t want the creature to feel threatened.
She held out her handful of crystal shards. They swirled with a strange, almost mystical like glow. They were exceptionally pretty and she hoped the wild creature would think so as well.
