It had been a quiet summer, contrary to Briar's expectations. He had been wound up with anticipation of the worst with everything that had happened near the end of the last year, waiting for the other shoe to drop, but so far it just... hadn't. Even the trips to the trader in town were starting to feel mundane. This time, he'd been sent with something almost ridiculously mundane: a small posy of flowers from the garden. He didn't understand the logic by which the trader operated, but it wasn't his business. These weren't his things, and he was just an errand boy in all this anyway. The less he thought about it, the better. He had enough to worry about just looking out for himself and the scant creatures under his care. He slipped in quietly, and laid his offerings on the counter in silence. -These, for a magic crystal?- he signed.

Usually, when he had Tainted Crystals for offer, they were sold as soon as they hit the table. This time, however, they lingered around for some time before people started to trickle in and ask for them. The Trader sometimes wondered why the people wanted so much dark magic, but he generally didn't worry too much about what others were doing.
The trader picked up one of the snowdrop flowers laid on the counter and spent a few moments inspecting it. A perfect and beautiful specimen. He always loved flowers. Something about the fleeting nature of their life was powerful. He nodded at the silent customer and deliberately set a crystal on the table for him to take.
