It had been a while since Leafy had been to the breeding center. She’d been here quite a bit before in the past but coming here today was done on a bit of a whim. Morphos, her butterfly winged Pachee, had been quite antsy the last few days. Deciding she ought to do something about it, Leafy had sent out an ad looking to see if anyone had a female Pachee in the same predicament. Luckily, someone had responded and now she and Morphos were headed to meet up with them and introduce the two Pachee to each other. “Hi, I’d like to book a Pachee breeding room,” she requested the front desk. In response, she was given a few forms to fill out and scribbled the information down to the best of her knowledge. She frowned at the prospect of having to fill out more boring paperwork but was handed a room assignment instead of another form. 1

The visitation of the centre had quickly grown into a peculiar habit. The distinct sense being that these pachee had quite a circle of avid breeders within the city. One could hardly pass the message post on most days without happening upon a new notice or ad for partners. A turn of events which was quite amiable to the lepus, who had indeed found a hobbyist appreciation for these strange plant creatures, and a fascination with the sheer variety one could create.
By circumstance of one's poor leg, it was often his habit to arrive early, with the pachee in place by the time the prospective partner would arrive. The transport a subject of much creative thinking, as one could hardly carry a cage while using a walking stick for such a distance. However, the lepus made do, and in fine attire was awaiting the partner for Myrtille in front of the designated breeding room, the pachee herself already inspecting the enclosure within.

Oh, there was someone already outside the breeding room! Morphos squirmed in her arms as he caught sight of the female Pachee awaiting them. Leafy kept a solid grip since the last thing she wanted was to track down a wayward Pachee in the maze that was the breeding center. She’d been here enough times to find the entire place rather confusing.
“Hello, looks like Morphos is all ready to go! If you could help me with the door, I can get him in without him wiggling away!” Leafy adjusted her grip on the Pachee, quickly preventing another escape attempt. She was quickly regretting her decision not to bring him in a carrier. “My name is Leafy by the way!”
She remembered it was quite rude not to introduce herself. She’d never been particularly good with manners, but she knew that it made people like you when you followed them properly.

There had been little hurry, as the hour of meeting had been quite early still. None the less, the slight commotion was audible even at some distance, the tall ear of the lepus moving to first catch the struggles on hand even before his gaze followed. He had already begun moving to help, in whichever manner was applicable with containing the creature, but the woman had interjected first.
"Of course, miss," he nodded in acknowledgement, and opened the door to stand far beside. When one's attire was largely in darker shades the prospect of getting pollen on it wasn't the worst of circumstances, though not necessarily the best as well. It also appeared the woman needed all the space available, lest the creature latch onto something and leverage it as a means of escape. Within, the commotion had likewise caught Myrtille's attention, who stood up on hind quarters and watched such a sight.
As the wrangling of the male one proceeded, the lepus used the free hand to lightly lift the tall hat in a greeting in return, "A pleasure to meet you, miss Leafy. I'm mr. Pholier, as indicated in the letter. Are you.. certain you don't require further assistance?" It was a careful question, for far from it would he intend to presume she couldn't manage should she so wish to.

Leafy managed to wrangle Morphos through the door with a lot of difficulty. His wings, while quite gorgeous in appearance, made him rather difficult to carry. Additionally, if he did manage to escape, they ensured that he would be near impossible to catch again without the assistance of a well-trained creature. Which she did not have in her possession right now.
“Phew, I think I have him under control now! Th-thanks for offering though.” Manners she had to remind herself of once again. This fellow seemed like one of the uptight stuffy types and her last encounter with the sort had been confusing and anxiety inducing. The Pachee offspring had turned out alright in the end which ensured she would be alright to put on her best behavior once again.
“It’s good to meet you too Mr. Pholier,” she spoke in a softer tone. Without Morphos blocking her vision, her sense of shy anxiety had returned to her. At least so far everything seemed to be going fine so far. What had that other prim and proper women’s name been again? Oh yeah Fiera. She hadn’t paid much attention to the response letter, but she doubted Mr. Pholier would appreciate the justification that reading was for squares. Unless it involved lots of pictures.
Morphos was set gently down on the ground. With his attention now focused solely on Myrtille, he didn’t seem so keen on escaping. He flicked his ears forward in greeting to the pretty female.

There was a likewise awkwardness on his part as the pachee was wrangled, feeling a sense of obligation to assist yet unable to do so unless strictly invited. Thankfully the ordeal was quite shortly lived, as the male pachee was eventually entrusted to the room, allowing the lepus to close the door proper, so that observations could resume behind the window.
"My pleasure, miss Leafy," he responded to the offer of gratitude with a polite smile. With the door closed, the lepus rested the hands upon the walking cane and turned attentions to the room within. A proper sort, to be sure, though perhaps with an odd quality or two. Between the tall height and slight luminescence of the white of the fur, the proper attire could almost seem common. "I must admit to finding your posting quite intriguing. I dare say the description did little justice to Morphos' extraordinary colouration," he added, by means of compliment and casual conversation.
Within the room, Myrtille leaned down upon all fours once more, ears likewise shifting forwards in greeting. What strange companion.. with things upon its back, no less!

Leafy beamed, always pleased when someone took notice of her pet’s vibrant markings. She tended to be drawn to bright colours like a moth to a flame. A lot of her breeding combinations would be rather eclectic to most people, but sometimes pets like Morphos could be seen as universally beautiful.
“Thank you! He thinks he’s quite the catch too! I love the stripes that Myrtille has, and the purple of her coat is stunning. The offspring should turn out pretty with these two!” Leafy was always happy to chatter about her pets and it was a good indication when others cared deeply about their creature companions as well. It made social interaction a bit easier when critters were the topic of conversation.
Morphos was pleased when Myrtille returned his greeting. Her stripes made her rather endearing to him, he had never seen stripes on another of their kind before! He stretched out his wings proudly, wanting to show off a little.

The polite smile remained, as the lepus regarded the woman with a sense of appreciation, "Thank you kindly. Alas, I wish credit could be taken for such, but the stripes are rather a result of the pollen project. It appears that certain mushrooms produce quite the pattern, when used with pachee." Where the invitations to breedings looked frequent, not quite all of the prospective partners were always as interested in the craft. This wasn't a fault, nor something the lepus minded. Merely that finding a fellow enthusiast made for easier conversation, and perhaps trading of craft advice. "Have you chanced to peruse their services yourself?"
Within the room, the display of wings certainly brought about a sense of awe. Where Myrtille had little knowledge of what those strange growths were, the colouration and form appeared quite captivating. In slow steps she made an approach, head shifting in tilts to one side then the other, as the faint flecks of dull sparkles followed her wake.

“Oh, gardening is still a lot of hard work! Collecting all the required material takes a long time. I haven’t used their services yet, but I was planning too once I gathered more fruits of the same colour. That way I can predict with more accuracy what the Pachee might look like.” It always seemed a bit of a waste to leave it up to chance anyway. “I’ll probably be hitting up the gardens next. I haven’t had the chance to harvest anything this season yet.” Garden talk was always a safe topic to choose as well. Unless the other person ended up being terrified of bugs or anything to do with the outdoors. But in this instance, gardening seemed to be a sure bet.
Morphos was quite pleased with Myrtille’s intrigue. His wings were a source of pride for him. The other Pachee in his owner’s kennels didn’t have anything so grand and that made him rather special. In fact, Morphos was so thrilled that his tail began to thump against the ground in a steady rhythm, clear indication that the match would be a fruitful one.
"I think that's a good sign," Leafy remarked, still not entirely educated on how the whole breeding process worked.

"Indeed it can be," the lepus agreed, and perhaps if one were to take notice, would see that the hands were ones used to fair amount of manual labour, belying the impression a proper attire may otherwise leave. "It makes for a most wonderful hobby, as well, if one's looking to be removed them the business of the city for a time." This had become quite a wonderful change of pace, for garden enthusiasts were at times more rare than those with interest in pachee. Such curious contradiction.
"If I may offer advice, miss Leafy.." the lepus turned towards the woman, voice sounding more paternal, "There is an odd shop off the main street of the market, where nothing is truly sold. A trader of sorts, if you would. They have a small garden to the side where-in you can trade types of produce for others, regardless of kind. If you're looking to gather specimens of the same make, that could help speed up the process considerably."
Within the room, the pachee's approach halted mere steps away from the winged one. A pause, some consideration, and a sudden tap of a paw at him, before a sudden dart off. A sign of play, asking him to attend along in chase. And in due time, when company was familiar and presence comforting, the breeding would be most fruitful indeed.
