How long had it been since Briar had last been sent on this particular errand? He had lost track, mostly because he couldn't remember exactly when he'd last visited this shop. There had been too much going on in the intervening time, and something like this had seemed inconsequential in comparison. It had also lulled him into a false sense of complacency, but maybe this trip would serve as a reminder to be more careful again.
The shopkeeper here wasn't very talkative if Briar remembered correctly, which was good news for him. Unfortunately, the fact that the stones needed appraising meant that it wasn't just a matter of handing over a payment and taking the crystal.
There was a small pouch he had been given with a few rough stones. He laid out some of these on the counter. -Is this enough for a Tainted Crystal?- he signed, stumbling slightly over the last two words.

The shopkeeper looked them over for a few moments before shaking his head a little, "Worth 148, gotta make up the last lil' bit. Got anythin' else?"

Briar sighed, though not because of the shortfall. It was someone else's money -- or rocks, in this case. It was just that it meant he would be here a bit longer. What had the price been...? It took Briar longer than he would have liked to do the math. Literacy hadn't come easily to him, and he wasn't the best at numbers either. In his work, he could measure things by weight, by feel, that sort of thing, but prices were more of an abstraction to him. At least there was no small talk, and the shortfall was only a little. One stone ought to settle this, regardless of value, if the difference was only two credits' worth. He'd been given a few extra stones, just in case this happened. Digging around in a different pouch, he pulled out one at random and set it on the counter with the rest.

He looked at it closely- the blue stone was small, but he could sell it for maybe... 7 credits? "Yep, that'll do." He said, taking the stone before handing over a thrumming crystal. "Hope you know what to do with it."
