Genetics played a dangerously interesting game. Zenjesi was almost embarrassed to be already visiting the breeding center again. At least this time, it was not with Maize, but the Pachee's daughter. The satyr was attempting to hold her, pet her, soothe her, but it seemed she was not so docile as her mother. She was writhing within their grasp, attempting to climb up Zenjesi's shoulder or underneath the capelet, or... "The grass can entertain you," Zenjesi decided, setting her down and ensuring they had a good hold on the leash.
They had left an image of young Rosa on the breeding center bulletin's board and had already received interest; it seemed they were not the only one who appreciated her unique markings. Though perhaps it would have been more customary to wait inside the building for the other party, walling themselves in with strangers made everyone uncomfortable. So they lurked under a bright autumn tree, and they waited.

When Silver wasn't quite sure what to do, they often looked for a hint from the quest board or the bulletin board outside the breeding center. They quite liked spending time with their Pachee and other garden creatures at the breeding center, so they often accepted ads just for the chance to get out and do something different for a bit. This one came from someone they had never met before, which made them a little bit nervous. It was always easier to meet with a friend, of course, but they wouldn't make any new friends doing that.
Silver tucked Diamond under their arm and carried him along to the breeding center. He had been there recently and instantly perked up once he recognized the surroundings. This was the play place! He started wagging his wide tail, tapping Silver on the back with it.
"Ah, be careful," they said softly. They didn't want him to shake off all his pollen before it was time!
Silver recognized the red speckled Pachee far before they realized there was a person attached to the other end of the leash. That must be their new breeding partner, they thought. They looked up and cleared their throat. "Hey, ah, h-hello," they said, weakly waving their fee hand.

Given that they were expecting company (and thus conversation), they were far from relaxed. However, even if this had been a solitary outing, they would not have been able to find peace. Perhaps it was only her age, but Rosa seemed keen on inspiring as much distress in Zenjesi as possible. She began by attempting to dig holes in the lawn, then, when that was discouraged, began attempting to store rocks in her mouth. Zenjesi was not sure what her goal really was, but did not wish to risk her actually consuming one.
It was immediately after they finished extracting one from her jaws and in the one moment she was behaving relatively normally when Zenjesi heard a voice. Nobody responded; they had a sinking feeling it must have been addressing them. Their ghostly gaze turned up to the figure who had approached while they were distracted and saw... a child? No, there was something a bit older than that in their face. That was for the best; they did not wish to give a young one nightmares.
They were preparing themselves to give a proper greeting when their gaze and attention were distracted by another element of the stranger's appearance. "You have magical hair," was instead the first thing they whispered. No, that was not why they were here, though it was true. "This is the Pachee." They pointed one long finger down at Rosa, who had instantly noticed the male Pachee. The leaves on her back rustled.

Silver looked down at Rosa as she was introduced. They were a bit relieved to see that she did appear to be the right one. Good, they hadn't approached the wrong stranger after all. This person seemed to be a bit shy, or something, which they could certainly understand. They hadn't made a move to introduce themselves, so Silver did their best to take the lead.
"I'm Silver," they said, touching their chest with their fingertips as if the 'I am' part of the sentence wasn't obvious enough.
Following that was a pause just long enough to be incredibly awkward. They were terrible at this sort of thing. Why couldn't people be as easy to talk to as creatures were?
"And, ah, this - this is Diamond," they finally said. They shifted him in their hands so that they could show him off better, putting their hands under his armpits so his whole body could be seen. Unlike the two people he was with, he was very eager to make a new friend and immediately started wiggling around.
"Ssh, just a little longer," they said quietly into the fur at the back of his head.

Ah, they had done it again: forgotten themselves. They let out a quiet hiss at their misstep. Such a sound was unlikely to benefit the conversation, but perhaps they did not realize that either. At least the newcomer had not been put off by the satyr's commentary on their appearance. "Silver," Zenjesi repeated in their whisper as their partner introduced themselves. "I am Zenjesi."
And then... silence. They were stoic for almost the entire time before they suddenly feared they were meant to have done or said something. Was Silver waiting for them? Oh, no, the other Pachee's introduction came next. Of course. They exhaled a small sigh. "They will be beautiful," Zenjesi responded, then quickly clarified, "the children."
Rosa was attempting to get a jumpstart on the activities for the day, as she was now moving to scale Silver's legs to get to Diamond. "You must behave," Zenjesi chided her, stopping her progress via the leash and harness, and then scooping her up into their arms. She was not thrilled with this turn of events and also began wriggling in their grasp.
There was another pause before Zenjesi managed to take the lead this time. "Indoors?" they invited Silver. This was going well so far, was it not?

Silver was fairly used to awkward introductions, so even if they had been paying enough attention to understand Zenjesi's hushed comment, they probably would have not said anything regardless. Most of the time, people polietly tried to avoid mentioning their elemental traits, which was an entirely different kind of awkward.
"Nice to meet you, Zenjesi," they said in an entirely too formal manner. "Yes, I think so," they nodded at the children comment. Silver was not picky about their Pachee, but they did really see some potential for the colors and markings displayed by these two.
Then they looked down at the Pachee grabbing at their pants leg. "Nice to, ah, to meet you too," they said. They smiled warmly at the Pachee, their face instantly softening when they looked at her.
As she was yanked away by her harness, it was as if Silver snapped back to reality. Right, they were here to do something. It was a good thing Zenjesi remembered, because they might as well have spent the entire day outside playing with the Pachee. They nodded in affirmation and walked past Zenjesi toward the door. Once again, they awkwardly shifted Diamond around so that they had a free hand and used it to open the door, gesturing for Zenjesi to head inside first.
"I think our room is, ah, down the hallway, to the - the left," they explained.

As Silver moved, Zenjesi followed. They held the belief that the creature-tamers of this city knew far more about most things than they did. The satyr had only formally met a couple of them through Pachee breeding, but they had observed many others within the contest hall. Strangely, none of them seemed as unsettled by Zenjesi's presence as they had expected. The more casual civilian with only a companion creature or two still shied from Zenjesi, so it was not as if the effect had left them. But it did make them wonder...
"The left," they repeated once again, wrestling with Rosa as they turned that direction. It was a good thing Silver was leading; they had been completely lost in thought. Speaking of which... "Do you think it is difficult? For her?" Zenjesi asked Silver, pointing to the female Pachee in their grasp. Shamefully, they had not been present for Rosa's birth so they did not know what it entailed, except that it happened much more quickly than they had expected.
Finding the names of their Pachee tagged to a door, Zenjesi unnecessarily raised a finger to point this out to Silver.

Silver lived here long enough to see a lot of things, so there was little that could really shake them. They often spent time with a giant cat that could breathe purple fire. Oh, and he could fly! Compared to that, meeting with strangers for a quick romp around the breeding center should be easy. Should be.
"Difficult?" it was Silver this time who echoed what they had heard. They took a moment to understand the question, as it was not something they were expecting to hear. Their heart instantly softened for the stranger who, though a bit odd, seemed to really care about their creatures.
"I don't think so," Silver said, lightly shaking their head for emphasis. "The process, it's, ah, it's different, than it would be with... mammals," they almost said 'people' but that seemed too akward, even for them.
"Baby pachee are very - very small," Silver explained. "You could, ah, you could fit one in your pocket."
It seemed from their answer that they knew a fair amount about Pachee. Plant creatures were a specialty of theirs, so they could talk about it for a lot longer, but they avoided the temptation.
"Oh, good, thanks," they said. They thought Zenjesi might open the door and let them both inside, but when that didn't happen, Silver gently stepped past them and pushed the door open. Just in time, too, since Diamond finally wiggled free and dove full force right into a pile of blankets on the ground.
"Do not worry," Silver said, turning back to Zenjesi again. "They will take good care of her."

The answer was a relief for Zenjesi to hear. While Silver may not have mentioned people, the satyr's mind had been hovering around that area anyway. Their mother had told them a thing or two. Or... perhaps more accurately lamented a thing or two while they were within earshot. Hooves and horns, and... Well. Pachee would not need to worry about things like that. Zenjesi gave Silver a thin smile as the thoughts began to take them in a strange and melancholy direction. But blessedly, the next thing Silver said was intriguing enough that it pulled their mind from the mire.
Reflexively, they looked down past Rosa to the pocket on their shorts, and the comparison did put them at ease. But before more could be said, the door opened and Diamond launched himself into the room. Rosa attempted to follow suit, and did manage to break free of Zenjesi's grasp, only to be tangled in the leash as she landed. "You must be -- patient --" Zenjesi struggled to get the words out as they wrestled with the Pachee and her harness. Her tail slapped them once in the face accidentally. It was a bit of a spectacle, and they were mildly embarrassed with Silver standing right there. But finally she was freed, and she bounded in happily to meet the lovely white Pachee.
Zenjesi straightened up, glancing over to Silver. "You know very much. Perhaps..." Oh no, they were doing it again: inserting themselves into others' business. Why did they continue to put themselves in this situation? Yet the words came out of their mouth anyway. "...you could teach me."

Silver grinned at Rosa as she eagerly tried to untangle herself, only to make it worse. They had been in a similar position enough times that they found the entire encounter rather relatble and charming. Perhaps that was one of the reasons they didn't typically use leads for their own creatures. Though they expected the amount of runaway creatures they dealt with was unusually high because of it.
Diamond was so happy to finally get a chance to meet his new friend face to face. He jumped to his feet and ruffled his leaves, trying to impress her. Was he handsome? Would she notice? He could hardly wait, so he preemptively started waving his tail, shaking a small amount of pollen into the air.
"Thank you," Silver said reflexively before Zenjesi even finished their sentence. They were so worried about making sure they were polite that they forgot the 'not inturrupting' part.
"Oh," Silver said, their ears perking up a bit. They weren't sure how to feel about the request. They did like the idea of sharing some of their experience. "I, yea, well, ah... what do you want to learn?"
