The pack was full of crap, and Alma had been half tempted to just leave the duplicates in her collection rather than carry them all the way to the marketplace. It was rare enough that she would find a buyer to take even one of the assorted bits and critters that she had stumbled upon and did not want herself, and a bag full of everything from waxy leaves to a toothy clam in their own private plastic bag of water was not a weight to stroll around the city with for fun.
She passed several more respectable-looking shops before she reached the shabby one she had been looking for, stomping her shoes free of the worst of the slush before pushing the door open, careful to not let the door slam on the pack as she entered the shop. She waved a hand in the general direction of the shopkeeper, assuming it was the shopkeeper and it had not become the style of shoppers to wear cloaks indoors, and walked along the tables. It did not take long at all before she found a few things that she would be glad to trade for, namely one critter that looked just like a sketch she had seen of a mansion beast she had yet to catch and another that was a blubbery beast floating in a tank. She made her way with her pack to the trader. “Howdy,” she said, waving with one hand as she used the other to slip her pack off of her shoulders. “For the whale and the messenger,” she she pointed at each before she started pulling out water-filled bags of squirming things and handfuls of less lively things like coins, “Would this all be enough?” It was a horrible way to bargain, naturally, but if they were willing to take the junk she had collected and had no intention of taking back home, that would be almost be worth it on it's own. Almost.
"And that glowy crystal too." The last of the bags came out as she pointed at the possibly magic rock, the worm wriggling and coiling in the water. Might as well try for it seeing as she was pretty sure she had nothing like that. If they wanted more, maybe there would be something at the bottom. And if it was too much more, well, she'd just be happy to have a lighter load and the whale to cart back to the kennel.
