Emery had returned to the adoption facility, her off rhythm footsteps clacking up the sidewalk. Her last adoption from here had gone well. Her fire elemental golem Pyrrhos had settled in well with her other pets, and she felt like she had a decent handle on caring for him. With that in mind, she was looking to take in another potentially interesting creature. After a few minutes of perfunctory chit chat with Matthew at the front desk got her an adoption form and access to roam freely through the kennels. She cast her eye about through the cages for anything that might catch it. Most of the creatures here were quite common in form and origin, though every so often a real gem of a critter would appear and she would snatch it up. And today was looking to be no exception as she slowly came to a stop in front of one of the kennels.
Adopting: Nature Elemental Golem

On first glance, it looked just like a plant seed. It was an unusual thing to see in a kennel meant for animals. There were a few cues as to its true identity however. A dish of soil sat in the back corner of the kennel, the dirt stuffed into a leftover litter box. This particular cell was also clearly chosen on purpose to have a window in it, sunlight streaming down towards the floor. A bed filled with soft grass laid on another side, and oddly enough the grass looked completely fresh instead of dried- it wasn't even wilted, as if something was keeping it alive. A water dish sat near the front of the kennel, but there was no sign of a food dish. And in the center of it all, that large seed, about as long as Emery's palm was wide, brown with lighter stripes across its surface.

Others might have had issues with identification, but Emery knew it at first glance. This was a nature elemental golem. She couldn't tell if it was sleeping, but she decided to find out, gently tapping on the bars of its cage. The seed twitched for a moment, and then a small cracking noise came from its hull. A pair of bright green leaves burst from the top of it, and small feet poked out from the bottom. They flailed against the smooth concrete floor for a moment, trying to gain purchase, before the creature finally managed to pull itself upright, teetering from side to side before turning to look at Emery. Just as with her fire elemental golem, small black eyes peered out from small cracks in the surface of the seed's shell, wet, shiny, and very clearly alive despite being made of pure elemental magic, but not particularly deep or intelligent.

"Greetings." Emery said, and the little creature blinked at her once. She wasn't expecting it to have a particularly interesting reaction. Based on Pyrrhos's behavior, she knew the the first draft of the elemental golems were quite simple minded creatures. They had basic survival instincts and an affection for their particular element, but not much else. To its credit however, it wasn't like Emery was doing anything of interest right now either. All she had done was bang on the door a bit and make a funny noise. She decided to try something different. She reached down a finger and scraped a bit of mud from the outside of her boot. Spring had brought plenty of rainstorms and with that, plenty of mud that she occasionally had to trudge through. She held it out to the nature golem through the bars of the kennel, and it quickly toddled over to her.

It reached out a foot, which quickly began growing rootlike extensions to it. It sunk the roots into the mud, and Emery could feel the tiny feelers wrapping around her finger underneath. It tasted the foreign soil, the fresh rain. She supposed it must have been nice, or at least interesting, to get to interact with something from the outside world instead of the sterile sink water and store bought dirt supplied to it in here. It seemed to invigorate the young golem, which began toddling around its enclosure at (for its size) great speed, clearly excited. Overall, Emery found herself quite liking this little creature. It didn't seem to have any behavioral issues, and paid attention when she attempted to interact with it. There wasn't much else she looked for in a pet. She clicked the pen she had been given and began to fill out the adoption form.
