 Lumi Level 12.0 / Loyalty 14.0 Stamina: 7 Strength: 7 Resistance: 4 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 2 Special Abilities: Pack Instincts, Alpha Moves: Fly, Claw, Peck, Wing Buff, Charge Trained: Fly (5), Wing Buff (5), Claw (2) Items:  A crystalline golem? The words themselves seemed fairly descriptive of what the creature may be, though Zenjesi had never encountered one. Or... had they? There had been that inexplicable occurrence in the mines... The satyr brought to mind which gemstones they had seen, wondering if this battle would unexpectedly provide the answers to some of their lingering questions. For now, however, they would need to wait. Lumi was meandering around the arena below. He had completed a loop already once, and was now sniffing at the footprints he had left when he began as if they were a stranger's. At least he was entertained. OWITQtVH1-101-10 |

Nina reviewed her schedule carefully to make sure that she appeared at the right place at the right time. Everything was carefully planned, repeated in her head until she was certain. If she kept her mind focused on that, perhaps she wouldn't worry so much about... everything else.
Laputa lumbered after them, slowly but consistently, as they made their way into the pit. Their opponent was already there, waiting for them. A brilliant white Gallor. Nina knew plenty about Gallor, having trained a few herself. They worked better in packs, but a single one should still not be underestimated. Their grace while flying would make them a difficult target for Laputa to catch.

Presently, their opponent arrived in the ring. Zenjesi had been holding their breath, but deflated upon seeing the golem. That was not to say it was a disappointment - the creature was intriguing by itself - but it was certainly not a mimic of what Zenjesi had witnessed previously.
But those musings would need to be postponed, as the satyr could easily see that this golem did in fact appear to be made fully of crystal. Their eyes turned to Lumi's claws and they felt a nagging bit of doubt. Well, that would be addressed when the moment came.
For now, they commanded him to fly via the whistle. He had only just lifted off as one of the golem's massive arms swung around and collided hard with his side. He cried out, nearly grounded by the force of the strike.

Nina could not help but to flinch as Laputa's crystal fist struck the Gallor on the side. She watched the bird stumble and a small part of her secretly hoped that he was okay. A fast knockout was great for her standing in the tournament, but with every single collision she still secretly hoped that everyone would make it out safely. Not that she would let that deter her, of course. The Gallor managed to stay in the air despite the blow, which would make him that much more difficult to hit. She hoped Laputa would be able to find the focus to hit him again, but she did worry about her chances.

Rather than contend with the golem's crystalline armor, Zenjesi quickly commanded Lumi to attack with the strength of his wings instead. Yet as the gust of wind should have collided with his opponent, it seemed some quick instinct led it to brace itself and avoid the force altogether. This did not bode well.
But naturally, just as they believed Lumi's odds could not decrease much further, the golem retaliated successfully. Its other arm swung up, battering their Gallor a second time. He squawked again, but to his credit, did not seem to be fully deterred from the fight just yet.

The extensive training Nina did to improve Laputa's reaction time paid off. She quickly skirted the blast of wind from the Gallor and came in for another strike of her powerful fists. To out speed a Gallor! Nina thought she would never see the day. Though she was unlikely to have the same luck again.
"That's it Laputa! Stay focused!" Nina said. Her encouraging words seemed to spur on the golem who came in close for another attack. She may not know many tricks, but she was incredibly consistent. Perhaps that was what made her the perfect companion for Nina, someone who could desperately use a bit more stability in her life.

What else was there to do but attempt the same again? They would need to rely on the hope that either Lumi would learn to adjust for the golem's evasion or that the golem would tire before Lumi did. Zenjesi blew the command another time, and obediently, Lumi obeyed. This time, fortunately, it seemed the golem was not able to evade the strike, but... did anything occur as a result? Leaning forward over the edge of the owner's box, the satyr squinted their eyes at the form.
Perhaps it had... narrowed its eyes slightly against the wind? Zenjesi was not hopeful.

The beginning of the battle allowed the two opponents to get to know each other, each attempting to gain the advantage any way they could. Once blows were traded, however, it became a feat of endurance. Laputa had plenty of toughness, but she was relatively lacking in the firepower department.
For all Nina knew, it could still be anyone's match to win. Though the Gallor was looking worse for wear, she had to admit. Well, there was no backing down now. "Smash, Laputa!" she said, and the golem did just that. She braced herself against the powerful gust of wind from the Gallor's wings, little flecks of crystal flaking off, before closing in again.

This was not looking to be a hopeful situation. Zenjesi leaned forward heavily on the railing. Still, they held the whistle to their lips and repeatedly blew the command for Lumi to attack with his wings. Now, after a couple of iterations of this routine, they were fairly certain that small flakes of the shell of the golem were being disrupted by the force, and scattering into the sand.
Still, it seemed impossible to imagine that the gallor was going to be able to defeat his opponent. When they had entered him in this contest, they had expected him to be paired with beasts made of flesh and bone, not stone.

As a puff of white feathers fell to the ground, Nina felt pained for the poor creature who shed them. Even though he was the opponent, she felt bad for Lumi. It was never fun to see another creature be injured, regardless of what side they were on. Just as it was hard to see the shimmering flakes of crystal being blasted off of Laputa from the powerful wind.
"Steady, Laputa!" she said, hoping her voice would encourage the Golem. Laputa did not have many opinions, but she would do anything for her beloved master, and that included pummeling unfortunate birds who got in her way.
