Fiera stood in the center of the arena, the spotlight bright above her. She was hardly nervous, but her heart still pounded at the thrill of being watched by so many people. She was sure they'd be impressed though- it was impossible not to be at the sight of what she had to offer. "Ladies and gentlemen- Orpheus!" She said, and the spotlight moved- to reflect off of two enormous, bright red eyes. "Orpheus, show yourself! Come!" She called, and he slowly stalked forward out of the shadows. To help him stand out better- and of course, to make him look fancier to the crowd- she had tipped his feathers in more brightly colored dyes, matching his eyes. As he approached, Fiera pointed in front of her. "Orpheus, lay down." She said, and the alurook obeyed, giving her access to put his tack on. She poked and shoved him in ways that must have seen quite rough, but to his credit the alurook didn't even blink. (Fiera uses Feather Dye, Orpheus uses Come, Lay Down, and Tolerance.)

Slowly but surely she dressed Orpheus up, putting on both bridle, saddle, and saddle bags, accepting all of them obediently. Behind her, a line of bells was strung up in front of the judge's table- along with a long rope with a target on the end of it. They would come in handy later. Finally, she took the opportunity to haul herself up and onto his back, getting settled. "Good job Orpheus. You can get up now." She said, and he obeyed, stretching his wings. From there she took him through a couple of basic tricks- a basic loop around the arena, letting the audience see his shiny feathers up close. "Go left Orpheus- good boy- now the other way, right." Once she was satisfied, she arranged him back in front of the bells. "Let's ring in the riding show, eh?" She said with a smile. "Orpheus, peck!" She said, and the alurook lunged forward, ringing the bells as he pecked at them. With the sound of the ringing, Fiera raised her hand to the crowd. "Ladies and gentlemen- let's begin!"
(Fiera uses Avian Bridle, Travel Saddle, and Silver Bells. Orpheus uses Tack Up, Carry Rider, Turn Left/Right, Peck.)

Wasting no more time with the buildup, Fiera brought her hand down straight in front of her. "Orpheus- buff!" She said, and Orpheus immediately began flapping his wings, buffeting the crowd with huge gusts of wind. The bells range wildly, a huge difference from the sharp tones of before. Fiera listened to the impressed whoops from the audience before she decided to finally have the alurook take off. "Okay, now fly!" She said, and held on tight to the reins as he finally angled his wings downward, slowly but surely taking off from the ground. She gave a whoop of excitement as he rose into the air, and tugged on his bridle to guide him around the audience in a loop- but now over their heads, looking down at the crowd below. She gave a wave to them (and the judges, of course) as she finished the loop, winding up for the next trick.

Finally, she gestured downwards as they reached the starting point of the loop again. "Orpheus, snatch!" She called out, and he immediately folded his wings in. Fiera clutched his back with her thighs as he pulled into a deep dive, rushing down towards the rope with the target on it that she had set up earlier. He grabbed it accurately and effortlessly in his talons, pulling up before he could hit the ground. The rope rapidly uncoiled until the wind caught the object on the end- a long, elegant kite. The audience ooh-ed as Fiera pulled Orpheus into a tight circle, the kite waving proudly on the outer edge of the spiral she had guided him into, blurring into a line of blue with how fast he was moving. When it looked like he could go no tighter she finally allowed him to fall out of it, swooping down and up once more.
(Fiera uses the Seiryuu Paper Kite and Rope, Orpheus uses Snatch.)

Eventually she gave him the cue to let go, letting the kite glide elegantly down to the ground. Fiera pulled on the reins, guiding him to the very upper limits he could reached, penned in by the ceiling. "Ready, Orpheus? Grand finale." She said, and reached her hand out. She had put on saddle bags with the rest of his tack, and filled them with colorful frisbees. The bright colors would let the audience see them easily- and see what he was doing with them. "Ready Orpheus- catch!" She said, and tossed the frisbees out of the bag, letting them float towards the ground. Then Fiera did nothing but cling to the horn of the saddle for dear life. The alurook immediately dove towards the frisbees, catching them one after the other in his talons. Each one was quite small, leaving him plenty of room to grab the next as well.
(Fiera uses the Saddle Bags and Frisbees, Orpheus uses Catch.)

The audience watched with bated breath as Orpheus and the frisbees fell from the air. The alurook grabbed them as quickly as he could, though Fiera couldn't help him with the task. It finally looked like just one was going to hit the ground- but he snatched it up at the last moment, mere inches from the ground. Immediately Fiera yanked the reins up, bringing him back up into the air for a moment as the audience cheered. She basked in the bath of sound for a moment before finally letting her pet have a break. "Good job, Orpheus." She said, and the crested alurook seemed to relax, dropping the frisbees again. "You can land now." She said, giving him a pat on the side. He did so, putting his feet down gracefully between the frisbees he had just dropped. Fiera gave a bow to the crowd- knowing full well that they had put on a good show.
(Orpheus uses Land.)

It was time for the first ever riding show. Silver was a bit nervous, since they didn’t quite know what to expect. Gen would do whatever they asked, no problem there, but what… exactly were they going to do? Just riding around in a circle seemed like a bad idea. Everyone would probably do that. In an attempt to stand out from the crowd, Silver brought along a few trinkets to add to the show. Combined with some of the other things he knew, that might just help them get a higher place. Though they did notice a little too late that they could have taught him how to jump hurdles or do that fancy dancy walk thing. Ah well.
“Alright, buddy, it’s almost time for your turn, are you comfortable?” they adjusted and readjusted the delicate layers of chain that made up his bespoke armor. Silver grinned. It made him look regal, like a knight.
“Let me head out first, then you can come when I call you, ok? Stay, Gen,” Silver confirmed. They really only needed those last two words. The rest were pointless. Gen stood still, letting out a small whine as Silver walked away, leaving him in an unfamiliar place.

Silver sucked in a large breath of air as they headed out into the show ring. It was already dressed up with a running track for displaying typical mount behaviors. They stepped out onto the track and addressed the audience.
“Today, as a special treat,” they began. Their heartbeat pulsed in their ears, but they continued on their script despite their nerves. Hopefully it didn’t show too much as the practiced words flowed out of them. “I would like to introduce you to someone very close to me. A strange creature for a riding show, I know…”
“My Silverfang Vulticus, Gen!” Silver said, dramatically gesturing toward the curtain. “Come on out, Gen! Show the lovely people what you’re wearing!”
His ears shot up when he heard his name and he came barrelling through the curtain at the first sign that he was allowed to. Even under the weight of the metal chainmail, his tail wagging made his whole back end shake back and forth. He bounced right up to Silver and eagerly licked their outstretched hand.

“Good boy,” Silver said, stifling a giggle. Their voice was low, possibly not even audible to the audience at that range.
“As you can see,” Silver said, walking around Gen to get him to turn around and show off each part of his barding clearly. “This light weight armor is not just flashy, but it also protects him from harm, therefore allowing us to keep riding even in the toughest of conditions.”
“Vultici of this size are incredibly strong,” they explained. Did anyone need that spelled out for them? Probably not.
“Gen, stay still for just a moment, would you?” this they did say loud enough for the crowd to hear. They picked up a large stone tablet that had been set aside for their show. It was clearly very heavy from the way they painstakingly lifted it into the air. Gen understood the assignment and effortlessly crouched down so Silver could place the tablet on his back.

Once the weight was balanced on his back, he popped back up as if it weighed nothing at all. Silver walked around in a wide circle, asking Gen to follow them so he could show off how well he could balance the load as he moved. It came as second nature to him and he was able to walk around as freely as he could with no weight at all.
“Perfect, good show, Gen,” they said, rubbing him on his chin under the armor. “Now it’s my turn,” they said, asking Gen to bow down again with a hand gesture. They slid the tablet off his back and it hit the floor with a resounding thud. Silver even jumped a little, since they didn’t expect it to make that much noise.
In a single smooth and well practiced motion, Silver hopped up onto Gen’s back. Once they were settled, he instinctively stood back up to his full height. Suddenly, Silver didn’t feel so weird in front of a crowd. It was as if they all melted away and all that mattered was the two of them together.

It was a subtle motion, almost invisible to anyone watching. By merely shifting their weight, Gen understood exactly which direction they wanted to go. Silver exaggerated slightly once they remembered what they were doing. The judges had to know that they were the one in control. That was the whole point of this thing.
Silver led Gen around the ring, walking around certain obstacles in their path and right over others. The moves were seamless, as if Silver merely thought about where they wanted to go and Gen adjusted his track accordingly. There was no need to coax him to step over short barriers like there might be with a more skittish mount.
It was during this part of the show that Silver realized they could have trained a more rigorous agility routine. Though Gen tended to struggle with that sort of thing compared to a more agile mount like an Equillion. Perhaps this next part would make up for their lack of poise. After all, why bring a Vulticus if not to show off a few teeth?

“Woah!” Silver said in an exaggerated manner. Gen skidded to a stop. His stance became rigid and his eyes narrowed. He was a fierce predator, and he was ready to tackle any danger that may threaten them. At least, that’s what he was pretending to do at Silver’s behest.
“There’s a monster in our path,” Silver said, loud enough for the crowd to hear. They pointed to a huge stuffed animal that was flopped out on the path. “Not to worry! Gen is never afraid, and he wouldn’t let our journey be cut short here.”
“Gen, roar! Scare the monster away!” Silver commanded. Gen looked back at Silver for a brief moment, as if he was asking permission to do what he was instructed. He was not meant to do this indoors, but this was a special occasion. Silver nodded to confirm and Gen did not hold back, letting out a terrifying roar.

The toy on the ground pathetically flopped over, seemingly due to the force of the roar itself. Silver cheered aloud and said, “Good job defeating the monster, Gen! But now we’re behind! Better hurry up.”
As soon as they said the words, they urged Gen into a full run. He moved quickly across the ground without missing a single step. The slowed down around a tight corner, then sprinted again in a straight section of the track. They went around and around again at a high speed before finally slowing back down to a comfortable pace when Silver was in front of the crowd once more.
“As you can see, Gen is a tireless steed, ready to tackle even the longest and most dangerous adventures I can throw at him.”
Silver slid down off Gen’s side and landed on the ground in front of the judges. “Thank you, Gen,” Silver said, pressing their face into his exposed neck fur.
“And thank you for having us,” Silver said with a small bow before exiting the stage.

Having taken the time to carefully bathe Royale at home with a sponge bath ensures that her Dash-Claw looks clean at least when she brings her to the contest building doesn’t mean she is actually done spiffing up her appearance as she has come here for the third time for this specific contest, though, the second one was merely used to drop off the bigger equipment she wants to use for her performance with Royale that would be harder to bring both along at the same time.
Using the collar and leash she leads Royale to an empty spot away from most of the other contestants, and tying the leash against a sturdy pole, she drops her backpack to rummage through it while Royale looks curiously at her and the bag, chuffing in a way that makes her think she is asking if she gets food. “Later Royale.” She mutters distractedly as she starts taking out several bottles and a few small cloths, she busies herself with applying Armor wax at the metal parts of Royale’s body, rubbing it evenly on the plates till she is done, petting her at the scaled flank as she didn’t move too much away from her when she did. Only at her face was Royale pulling away more from her.
Switching the Armor wax for the Scale-shine bottle, and a new cloth she dots the liquid on, then rubs it more gently against the body. As she knows Royale’s hide is more sensitive at those parts compared to the plates. Within fifteen minutes her companion is shining brightly in the light, each part of her looking smooth and shiny, but missing just one more thing. Picking up the bottle of green dye, she takes a few steps away from her companion, eyeing the Dash-claw’s body to see how she could decorate Royale with it. “Splatters, stripes or maybe tiny dots?” She muses softly as Royale looks at her, tail twitching in a gesture that would usually indicate a creature is slightly nervous.
“Maybe I should have waited with the Armor wax… Still, the blue could look great at the legs and arms when its less white.” Certainly, a darker blue at those parts. Rummaging through her bag for something that could serve as a mixing bowl, she sees a food bowl she had brought along. Shrugging, she grabs that from the bag, dumped a bit of the blue dye in it, added a bit of Armor wax, and starts mixing it with her fingers till its more evenly as a blue paste, grabbing a new cloth, she dips it into the bowl and applies it carefully to the plated parts of Royale’s legs and arms, avoiding the yellow button cap as she does.
“Okay, maybe everything but the saddle would be even better.” She says towards Royale when stepping back and looking at the result. Already Royale looks nicer, the white and grey metal parts being painted blue, makes it like Royale looks more natural. More like a living being than part robot. She even had turned some of her natural black stripes a darker green, and any of the red wires at the neck a dark blue as well to make it less obvious its there.
It looks good, exotic and interesting while the part she will be sitting at, is left as is. Making it appear more like a saddle has been placed on Royale. Cleaning her hands to get rid of the blue dye on her fingers feels like a lost cause when it stays there, not even the bit of water she brought along for herself and Royale after the show seems to be unable to get rid of it. So she improvises and makes a couple of war painted stripes of dark blue on her own cheeks, makes her own hands have it more purposeful then accidentally there at first glance and just rubs off the excess dye so she won’t stain anything else… A curious chirrup from Royale makes her grin as she cleans up the bowl, and packs everything away. “Almost done Royale!”
She says as grabs two objects from her bag to act as jewellery. “Stay Royale.” She says in a firm tone as she comes closer to her companion, she had seen Royale back off and tug at the leash the moment she heard soft chiming bell sounds being emitted from one of them. “Don’t be scared Royale, almost done.” She murmurs as she attached a necklace with a blueish green stone around Royale’s neck, then heads to the flank as she needs this one to be done at the tail. “Stay..” She murmurs again when she wanted to gently grab the middle of the tail. “Grrrr…” Grumbling, Royale eyes her in what she thinks might be a predatory manner, one that is focused on the tail when she manages to get it tied up around a quarter before the end of the tail tip. The robotic parts that end about a quarter at the end tip are actually helping with keeping the thread in one place.
