They were headed toward the park from the kennel, the small creature bouncing along behind her as she stopped to snag each item of food that Runa dropped to encourage Vixen to continue following along. She was certain that Vixen's behavior was a mark of her youth - from her readings, she understood repointe were not necessarily laidback, easy going creatures...especially not the females. She was therefore quite glad that she had gotten the chance to work with a youngling rather than having to jump straight into ownership of one of the absolutely magnificent (and much larger) juvenile repointes. Their bond was growing by the day and she imagined that by the time Vixen grew into a juvenile capable of carrying a rider, training her to do so would be much easier.
Easier than it was going with Gallant, anyway. Runa's lips set in a tight line as she thought about the large Gallor that she had left in the kennels today, needing a break from trying to convince the large creature to let her sit on his back. She was a good rider, she was, but she had never worked with a creature who had 0 training at all. Even later when she had been trusted with working with the green broke animals, she hadn't worked with anything that was completely unfamiliar with the feeling of someone (or even something) on its back. She forced her thought to return to Vixen who had been trotting behind her and was now sniffing in the grass as she searched for more food. Runa snapped her fingers and Vixen picked her head up and looked at her.
Follow Runa signaled. Vixen, apparently uninterested in obedience (and perhaps not properly trained on follow) that day, continued to sniff around. Were Runa capable of doing so, she surely would have muttered under her breath in annoyance. Alas, she was forced to express her discontent different ways. She snapped again and when Vixen did not even respond, stormed over toward the creature and scooped her up. Annoyed, Vixen began to squirm in her arms as Runa carried her. The sun was high in the sky as Runa made her way to the training area, barely paying attention to her surroundings.

"Now, now, little one," Silver said with a coo in their voice. Peaches, a young Repointe with pastel fur, froze in place then turned to look at them with his large magenta eyes. Their truce was tense at its core. Sure, he would stay nearby for now, but who knows what he would do after that. That grass was just begging to be frolicked in. How dare they try to stop him? "Stick close, little one," they said, stepping forward and resting their hand on his head for a moment. "What if I give you a treat, would that convince you?" As promised, Silver retrieved a treat from their bag and offered it to the Repointe. He snapped it up eagerly, wrapping his jaws around their hand in the process. Thankfully he pulled back without taking a chunk of their skin with him. Silver sighed lightly, suddenly remembering how much work they would have to do to get him fully obedience trained. He was just a baby, but they knew they had to start now, since an untrained adult Repointe would be a nightmare indeed. Just as soon as it had been formed, the contract was broken. Peaches' nose twitched and he suddenly bolted off into the park. Silver started running after them before they even noticed what they were doing. "Peaches! No. Come back here!" they called to no avail. [159.9, 0.1]

Vixen's increasingly aggressive struggles forced Runa to pay attention - and good thing too, she had nearly stepped on a small repointe that was running. Taking advantage of her momentary distraction, Vixen launched herself out of Runa's arms, shaking herself when she hit the ground, not noticing Runa's horrified face and then immediately relief when Vixen appeared to be alright. The other, orange (and wasn't that an unusual color) repointe was moving quite quickly, but Vixen was not to be deterred and started to chase.
Runa snagged Vixen before she could tackle the other creature and looked around hastily for an owner of some kind. Surely there had to be one around? No one would allow such a small creature to -- ah no, Runa smiled as she laid her eyes on someone who was running from the same direction as the repointe had come from. Perhaps she could help catch it? She understood the frustration well of having to chase down a creature and even specifically, the frustration of chasing down a repointe because she often had to go chase down Vixen when she had made a break for it...again. She was an impressive escape artist.
She waved at the other owner, attempting to show that she was friendly, and then pointed in the direction their creature had gone before heading that way herself, still restraining Vixen who, surprisingly, had not opted to start biting (although Runa knew from experience that she was not above doing so) yet. She had brought some treats with her and, knowing that Vixen was quite food motivated, she pulled some out, perhaps the scent would entice the little one to make an appearance and allow either herself or the other humanoid to grab it.

Peaches gleefully bounded through the soft grass with his nose held high. There was a friend around here somewhere. He could smell her! He froze for just a second when he saw her trapped in a person's arms. He gave her a knowing glance before running off again, daring her to chase him. To his pleasant surprise, she freed herself from the stranglehold she was in and took him up on his offer.
Of course, the little one couldn't run forever. Soon enough his legs were tired and his enthusiasm for sprinting at full speed began to die out. Suddenly the large open field in front of him started to look like an impossibly huge obstacle to overcome. On top of it all, his person was charging after him shouting his name. All of this was a bit too much for him, so he froze in place, unable to force his legs to start running again.
Silver nodded at the girl as she pointed, assuming correctly that she had seen Peaches run past. They finally caught up to him, but by the time they noticed he had stopped running, it was too late. They nearly tripped over him, only managing to save themselves by tumbling out of the way at the last second. They gently scooped up Peaches, not even noticing the other Repointe during the whole ordeal.
"I'm sorry," they said, looking sheepishly at the ground. "He didn't ah, didn't hurt ... are you okay?"

The other had managed to capture their wayward Repointe in much the same way that Runa had captured Vixen. When they looked at the ground and their mouth began to move Runa felt a familiar panic. She hadn't brought her notebook today because she hadn't intended on encountering anyone. How many times had she walked the path with Gallant or Vixen at her side and not crossed paths with another soul? She eyed the other with trepidation and then, already having some misgivings, set Vixen on the ground, dropping some food in front of her to keep her from darting off and flashing the signal for stay at her (although it was not likely that Vixen would actually listen to the command).
Do you know sign language? she asked the other, her fingers dancing elegantly. Vixen, in between bites of food, was glancing at the other Repointe, perhaps hoping that this other humanoid would put their repointe down so that the two could play. Runa, hoping against hope, continued My name is Runa, this is Vixen she signed, gesturing at Vixen as she did so to make it clear she was referring to the small creature at her feet. Vixen had finished her meal but had not darted off, thankfully and was just staring at the other repointe intently.
I think Vixen would play with yours Runa added with a smile if you are ok with that. She didn't wish to overstep but she couldn't help but think that it would be very beneficial for Vixen to play with another Repointe and to learn how to interact with others of her species. Runa had found her trying to play with the other pets in her kennels despite how much larger many of them had been than her. It would be helpful if she could find something that was a little closer to Vixen's size.

Silver was liable to keep babbling on and on, but they noticed the girl make a familiar motion. She was signing! They nodded enthusiastically to answer her question and immediately noticed that their hands were full with Peaches. They were going to have to set him down if they wanted to use their hands. Could he be trusted? Well, no. But they didn't have too many choices.
Peaches wiggled enthusiastically when he saw that Vixen was getting food. He wanted food, too! This was all terribly unfair. "Shh, it's ok," Silver muttered under their breath. They placed him back on the ground and tossed some treats out for him as well. The two of them would just have to share, they thought.
"I am Silver," they signed. Their signing was a bit stiff like they lacked the confidence of practice, but they could probably be understood just fine.
"Mine is Peaches," they said, pointing at the (appropriately) peach colored Repointe. He was snuffling around on the ground to locate all of the treats, but he occasionally looked over his shoulder to make sure that Vixen didn't suddenly leave. "I am happy for them to play."
"Babies make friends easily," they added after a moment of thought.

Runa could have cried but managed to hold it together when the other responded to her in kind. Sign language was not so common here and writing was difficult for her so she rarely had conversations with others. The orange repointe (aptly named Peaches, Runa smiled at that, a very appropriate name) seemed as wiggly as Vixen was - a trait common amongst the babies, she imagined.
Silver's signing seemed perhaps out of practice? Understandable. A speaking humanoid was unlikely to be using it other than to converse with others such as herself and Runa had not met many who were completely deaf or mute as she was. But it was correct and Runa did not struggle to understand their signs in the slightest.
Peaches is beautiful Runa signed, taking a moment to admire Silver's little one Vixen will be happy to play with him. She bothers my other creatures all day long when we are home and we needed to get out so that she could burn off some energy. At that appropriate interval, Vixen made her move, having been watching Peaches with calculating eyes. She bounded close to him and crouched down. That was a move that Runa was familiar with, Gallant's tail having been the victim of many of Vixen's hunting moves. A moment later Vixen launched herself at the other, attempting to tackle him.
Do you have any others like him? Vixen is my first and I only know a little about them but I have seen the adult ones before and they are... Runa paused, seeking a word that properly conveyed how she had felt the first time she had seen a full grown Repointe majestic she decided although the word didn't quite suit. Once she grew into her ears, Runa reflected, Vixen would probably be more properly impressive. At that moment though, she was just adorable.
