She wasn't happy about it, and swum in tight, agitated circles, looking for a way out. Nerius didn't like seeing her stressed out like that, but was mostly just revealed that he had finally rounded up all the garden critters. Sort of. He did still have to find Tye Die, but for now his main concern was getting the crated lotine back to the front gate.
The filled crate was going to be much harder to remove from the water than the empty one had been to push in, and he wasn't looking forward to it. He'd already tied a rope to the non-opening end, thinking it might come in useful, and looking at it now, that seemed like a good call. Trying to push it while it was underwater like this would have been nearly impossible, it would be at least somewhat easier to move by pulling the ropes from dry ground.

Nerius picked up the rope from the bottom of the pond, and slogged his way back to the shore. That still didn't have the best footing, with muddy ground, and lots of half crushed reeds, so he kept going back. He stopped next to a large tree, hoping he could brace himself against the tree, and use that as extra leverage.
He needed all the help he could get, too, the crate was miserably heavy, and he wasn't terribly strong. Even pulling as hard as he could, it was a slow, miserable process to drag the crate out of the water. Eventually he succeeded, though was exhausted, and leaned heavily against the tree, trying to catch his breath. His arms were shaking, and he was sure he'd be feeling that tomorrow. At least he didn't have to actually load up the carriers and crates into the transport, which would be arriving shortly.

At least he had somewhat of a break, not doing much else until he heard the transport arrive. At that, he headed over to the front gate, he may not have been the one who was actually going to load it, but he wanted to keep an eye on things. Everything went smoothly though, and all the critters were loaded up without any incidents.
Well, at least not with the crated pets. Nerius had been keeping an eye on things, when he noticed something perched in on the branch of a tree, not too far off from all the activity. It was Tye Die! Relieved, Nerius picked up an empty carrier, and approached the tree. With any luck, he'd be able to lure the pachee down with a garden pellet or two, which he set out on a lower branch. The pachee was at least interested, and was peering down over his branch.

Tie Dye had bee just looking like he was about to glide down, when a commotion from the crates startled him. Judging by the angry hissing and thrashing, it was Jumanji's turn to be moved, and like with most things, the whiptail was not happy about it. The sound frightened the small pachee, and he took flight. Not down to Nerius or the lower branch, but away and over the fence, disappearing into the underbrush.
Well shit. That was going to make finding him much, much harder, and Nerius wasn't entirely sure what he should do. He wanted to go after the pachee before he could get too far, but it was starting to get dark, and a mostly black pachee in undergrowth at night would be just about impossible to see. Not to mention, he had all his other garden pets loaded up into crates, and he didn't want to keep them there any longer than necessary.

Moving them would be stressful enough, and the sooner he could get them moved and unloaded into their new home, the better. He didn't want to leave them unattended while being transported and unloaded either. It wasn't that he expected something to go wrong, he just wanted to make sure they were fine, just in case.
They were just about all loaded too, he'd even stuck the carrier he'd used for produce to the stack. Everything looked fine for now, and Nerius decided to take a quick look to see if he could spot Tie Dye. He wasn't too hopeful, but it was worth a shot, and if he didn't find the pachee tonight, he'd have to come back tomorrow. With dry cloths as well, there were only a few small dry patches on his shirt, everything else was still soaked from his trip in the pond, and he was reminded of that every step he took in soaking cloths.

It wasn't the most comfortable walk in soaked cloths, but soon enough Nerius exited the front gate, looking around for the missing pachee. Nothing. Not near the main road, and not in any of the more open patches either. He made sure to check the trees, as all the other times he'd spotted Tie Dye the pachee hadn't been on the grounds. They were empty of critters as well, and Nerius had to accept that he wasn't going to find the pachee tonight.
He'd have to come back tomorrow, hopefully the missing pachee wouldn't get too far. They were a mostly diurnal species, from what he'd observed, and it was very possible Tie Dye would just find somewhere to curl up for the night. But for now though, everything else had been loaded up successfully, and after double checking himself to make sure everyone was secured, it was time to head out.
-- End garden trip --

Russet [116] It really was nice to have his garden on his property, rather than way off in the community plots. Nerius could pop out to visit whenever he felt like, instead of it being a whole trip. Which was what he was doing this morning, he'd grabbed a snack, some candied nuts, and headed out for a walk around the garden. It was more to check on the critters, rather than any heavy duty maintenance, though this time of year most of the were still 'hibernating', and he didn't expect to see a whole lot of activity. The pachee were awake, all cozy in their greenhouses, he kept the males and females separate to prevent any accidental breeding.
But there were a couple of critters wandering about this time of year, especially with spring on the approach. Russet was one of them, and Nerius hadn't gotten too far in his walk before the leafscatter, hearing his footsteps, peered out to see who was in the garden.

Russet wasn't as aggressive or bold as some of the other garden critters, but he did recognize Nerius, and scampered out onto a branch to watch him. Nerius wasn't specifically looking for a critter, and currently was more focused on looking over the inanimate plants. Spring was just around the corner, and some green shoots were just starting to sprout up through the ground. Tulips, or maybe daffodils, he'd planted a few different varieties of bulbs last fall, and couldn't remember exactly where each was planted.
He hadn't gotten a lot of time to enjoy his 'new' garden before the weather turned cool, everything had been set up and moved over just before the season turned. That was probably for the best, the old mess of a plot that had come along with the creatures he'd purchased wasn't the best place for them to winter over. It wasn't the best place for them to live at all, really.

That old garden had been an overgrown mess, filled with dead patches, with a shed and fence that was falling apart. Not to mention, anyone could just walk through there if they wanted, potentially harming or even stealing a garden critter. This new garden though, was safely fenced off as part of his property, and everything was new, and with no old rusted tools laying around for a pachee to get hurt on or something.
Or a leafscatter. Nerius had looked up from the sprouts to look at the buds on a shrub, and spotted Russet perched on a nearby branch. "Good morning," he greeting the plant critter. He'd spent enough time with the leafscatter that Russet was comfortable with him, though the little critter didn't have any training. Russet was a friendly little critter though, and even if Nerius couldn't have called him over, there was no need, as the leafscatter scampered closer.

Russet made a friendly sound in greeting, he may not have understood the words, but he liked having company. There was something else he liked too, Nerius knew from past experience that the leafscatter had a fondness for sweets, which he just so happened to have. He held out a candied nut, and Russet spotted it immediately, scurrying up onto Nerius' arm for a closer look, and sniff, before delicately nibbling away at the treat.
He could actually train the little critter, he supposed, even if this had just meant to be a casual walk. Something simple, like his name, perhaps? By the looks of things, the candied nuts would be an effective treat. Not a surprise, really, nuts and seeds were one of their usual foods, and Russet specifically had a taste for sweet snacks. He'd wasted no time eating the piece he'd been given, and was now looking at Nerius, hoping for more.

Nerius gave him another, which the leafscatter ate just as eagerly as before, though he'd have to not give Russet too many if he really was going to use them for training. For the moment though, he still wanted to look over his garden, and continued his walk, leafscatter perched on his arm. Nothing looked out of place so far, plants mostly still dormant, with a few hints of new growth just starting to poke through here and there.
Russet himself still seemed to be in his winter stage, though it wasn't as obvious as it was for some plant creatures. Though, now that he thought about it, Nerius realized most of his garden creatures didn't change with the seasons. Other than Russet, it was just Jumanji, his whiptail, who did have a much more dramatic change over the seasons. She grew petals, of all things, and he had to admit the bright pink flower look did not suit her irritable personality.

Perhaps he should visit the shops once spring was in full swing, and add a few more plant critters to his garden. It was mostly pachee and lola at the moment, and while they were cute, it wasn't much variety. Many of them had been the results of breedings he'd done, but the previous owner, who'd sold him the lot as a set, clearly hadn't been much for gardening, which explained the lack of variety.
Nerius was drawn from that train of thought by Russet, who made a sound to get his attention; there were some spiny nuts growing just off the path. They wouldn't be the easiest thing for the leafscatter to eat, but Nerius appreciated him pointing it out, and gave him another candied nut, collecting the spiny one for himself. Not to eat though, at least, he didn't think they were much good for people to eat, he'd never seen them sold as snacks.

Nerius hadn't really been expecting to find much produce at all this time of year, but clearly there were still a few things harvestable. He shouldn't really have been surprised, winters here were much milder than they were where he was from, snow continued well into spring, and things still managed to grow. Going forward, he'd have to keep more of an eye out for it. Russet had been paying more attention, but he was probably used to searching for anything he could eat this time of year.
Or, would be if the instincts were still kicking, Nerius did feed his garden critters over the winter, no point in risking their health on being able to forage successfully, especially in a limited space. Russet, like many of his plant creatures, tended to sleep a lot this time of year, Nerius was a little surprised to encounter one so quickly, but then spring was right around the corner.
