For the amount of area needed to dig up inside the fairgrounds, Skye thought about then got about asking the ungulate in charge about if the work could go faster with a creature in tow. He didn't seem keen on the idea on having something as large as a full grown sarane coming in and digging out his turf. Nothing too big, and it had to LISTEN. To be able to either search the area for objects or similar without making a mess. Honestly, with how many large animals she'd handled and kept, Skye didn't offhand think of any specific creature who could do that, besides Draco or C.G. But, it was when she decided to turn in that night from digging, her hands aching from holding a shovel all day (digging isn't a profession), Skye performed the evening routine of feeding and interaction. It was Banana shuffling out of his scrubby domain with his jaws clamped about a slightly drooled on glass pendant that she'd lost several years ago after doing some 'spring dirtying'. Could sarane learn to find shiny objects as babies? The little brown Banana snaps at the shiny in her hand as she sought to feed him and take the thing. [Shiny] she indicates the object. [Shiny]. The drakeling's eyes are more glued on the meat in her other hand. He takes the meat, having to sacrifice his shiny for it. No, she wasn't a crab to start singing. Search [shiny] 1

The problem with dealing with young of any sort is their tendency to wander. Without any proper restraint gear geared towards young 6-limbed animals, (4 legs and 2 wings if one MUST count them), keeping hold of the young takes priority. The little sarane enjoyed exploring items with his mouth, but not enough to warrant a muzzle. As long as he didn't eat it. Once the meat vanished down his gullet, Banana sniffs at the ground, seeking more. The shiny object drops before his nose, surprising him. It has the smell of his dinner on it. He looks at it, bumping it with his snout. [Shiny] came the repeated sound. The little drake takes the object in his mouth briefly, nomming the silvery. [Good. This is a game. We're going to look for shiny things.] Banana squinted upwards at the fire-headed theron. What...is a game? She let him taste the shiny then takes it away. Dragging it slowly on the ground before placing her hand over it. [Find shiny.] she tells him, showing a piece of meat. She also taps her foot twice. [Find the shiny.] Repeating the gesture of tapping her foot twice.

No creature, no matter how much they physically look alike, are specifically alike in personality. The little dragon's behavior from the time he hatched reinforced this idea to her. Caiman wasn't quick as a whip, and notably she had done little research for the hatchling's henmother besides being gold, a hen, and in season. Talk about a bad attempt at researching, but that was here nor there now.
Skye's attention focused solely on the drake as he searches for the shiny object. She believed the young drake had seen her hide the pendant under her hand... hadn't he? [Find the shiny] she repeated the words and the motion of tapping her foot twice. For he hadn't charged forth on all fours to investigate her hand, or the meat that she still taunted him with. Instead, his snout put to the floor, sniffing around for residue scrap from his meal. Scraping here and there for finding the shiny object? [Banana, the shiny is here.] She tries to indicate under her hand by dropping the meat slightly. His blocky head turns slowly to look at her, to look at the meat.
What was he looking for?

Dune being an exception, sarane weren't hoarding creatures. But even a young dragon like Banana has to have SOME interest in finding shiny things. Right?
Or he already forgot what the game to find the shiny entailed. That could be it. Short attention span? His pale yellow eyes linger on her as he watches. Waits. [This shiny.] she finally uncovered the shiny pendant from under her hand. The head and gaze followed the movement down. [We're searching for 'this' shiny.]
Banana didn't seem to hear her, just staring down at the pendant. To shuffle-waddle forward with his belly scraping the floor, to come right up to her, and examine the pendant again. Nosing it with his snout, giving the shimmery colors a long lick.
He barked. Just once. Good enough. She offered the little one his meat. It disappeared down that endless gullet.
[Look for the shiny now?] Bark. Means yes? His voice wasn't reacting initially to her ring?

A different tactic then talking to the little dragon. She'd done nothing else but talk to EVERYTHING else. The young drake watched the object in her hand with something resembling interest. His posture shifted as she watched, lowering his front half to the ground, wiggling his butt in the air. Aha, he started feeling playful now? The idea had simple steps: to cover the object with her hand, and crouch down. Dragging the hidden object under her hand back towards one foot. Then tap that foot twice. If all went well, it could be a signal for 'search'.
Baby dragons didn't have 'ears' per say, but he seems to perk up with the motion. Sniffing the air. Putting his snout to the ground, the drake started sniffing about. Wandering this way and that as he wove lines closer and closer.
Until he finally paused at her, drawing a deep sniff from her hand. The drake looked up at her. He barked.
A nod. Good. He got a piece of meat, showing him his prize.
What she didn't expect was the drake to snag his prize and go away from her with it.

The kennel witnessed the game of chase that their feeder had started with the small animal. Her making noises and him barking and yipping in sheer glee of being chased about. What on this green Pethia...
Later that evening, once she fed the little brat drake and put him to nest, Skye took a seat at her rudimentary desk. Her chase game of trying to retrieve the pendant left the item with a broken chain. It was fixable, she figured, holding both ends of the snapped metal chain. The links for jewelry were not designed to play tug of war. The way Skye found herself going about this to teach the young drake wasn't working out. Would she go back to the norm? NO.
One of the empty pens had a dirt floor, so she converted it into a 'search ground'. Various shiny items buried beneath the ground, the soil mixed with a bit of murp blood to hide their scent.
Banana craned his neck back to glance at her as she placed him into the pen. A whine, his little ear fins perked and forward. She tapped her foot twice, nodding out to the pen.

Over the next day or so, Ridelys worked out on finding other small, less likely to be swallowed shinies for Banana to start searching for. With the pendant broken, she could hide both the glass disc and the shiny chain, so that made two. A shiny rock of lesser importance, a coin..., a piece of pottery, even a metal fork. After all, not all valuables were shiny. Heck, marble isn't shiny, and its considered valuable. With her array of items spread before her, and a steak of murp in the other, Ridelys swiped the fresh meat across half the items, and not across the other half. Not every piece of shiny had a fun smell to it. This particular theory came from just finding the shinies rather then bring them to her. Granted, he liked to show off a find, or so she would hope. Leading the little drake up to his playground of goods was the easy part. Letting him get a taste of each item before him, not so much. She had to hold the chain in order to keep Banana from eating it. Had to remember, search shiny was two taps of her foot. [search-shiny 7]

For Banana, he found interest in putting the strange items given to him into his mouth, or at least portions of them. She wouldn't let him swallow them. Each item tasted kind of cold. Then she took his new toys away, going over the fence he could not climb and started to dig around. He tried to waddle up to them, but the fence kept him from going forward. Looking down, throughly distracted, the little drake growls at the fencepost restricting him. Putting his jaws about it. Its a stick, and much bigger then his maw, but that doesn't stop him from trying to nom on the wood. Chew chew chew. Glancing out of the corner of her eye, Ridelys sees this happening. Crap, those teeth could chew through bones if he wanted, much more wood. No beaver, but his jaw appeared to be built differently to the croc jaws of her other drakes. Must be a cross-breed thing. Carefully, she pats down the last of her hidden gems, marking them for her own convenience, and retreats out of the little playground. This would be a hard thing for the drake to learn. To get his attention again required unhinging his jaws from the abused fence beam. "Find the shinies." she tells him, tapping her foot twice. The beam removes itself (it must be magical!) and allows the baby into his playground of dirt and sand. [Search-shiny 8]
