Waar | Male Sarane Whelp | 4/4 Stamina: 1 Strength: 1 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 2 Mentality: 0 Special Abilities: Flutter, Cave Crawler, Electrical Resistance, Acid Resistance, Acid Fang Moves: Climb, Nip, Bio Pulse, Thunder Ball
Morgan had only just completed the first quest that they had found on the questing board whenever they noticed another one; this one was much more interesting. Morgan had never been mining; never attempted to mine, didn't know how to mine, and honestly should not at all be mining. However, they were quite sure that they could sneak into a sarane's nest quite easily (sarane had to go eat at some point, right?) and find whatever it was that whoever the dummy that was hanging around something like that had lost. Morgan had never really thought that they would ever go down into the mines (that was for people with decidedly less money) but Morgan was suddenly quite curious. They had not seen a sarane in the 'wild', and was perhaps a bit more confident due to the knowledge that they had some kind of power from this chaos node, and these things made the bespectacled human quite a bit interested in this particular quest. Morgan carried a sarane welp in a backpack, hoping to follow it's nose to the sarane nest.

The sarane whelp had been a long story. This one apparently had a really nice lineage on both the dam and sire's side... Oh, and it was also acidic, which was dangerous. As of right now, the tiny thing was not exactly very dangerous, but it was hyper aggressive. As of such, it had a small leather strap holding it's mouth from opening too wide, so that it could still breathe but so that it could not bite the bespectacled human. It absolutely refused to go to sleep in the backpack, instead opting to climb around with it's larger than overage claws. It was apparently quite young, but already growing a pair of nubs from it's horn buds, and it still had the bit on the tip of it's nose that was left after the egg tooth fell off! Morgan would never have considered getting one of these as a child, but as an adult, a large creature was certainly acceptable, especially one that looked so much like a dragon.

The blond human had hope that the creature didn't know how to use it's inborn powers, the ones that Morgan had been told it had before it even hatched. Apparently sarane did not hatch unless they felt like it, and could pretty much stay in the egg for as long as they want. They had to be helped in some cases, and sometimes they just randomly hatched. Waar, as Morgan named him, had just hatched this morning, after basically being a rock for all anyone could have told, and a possible dud according to the seller. Whenever Morgan had leaned over the table that the individual was selling at to touch the supposed sarane egg (from one Vidarr son of Barrel and one Bali, daughter of Ghidorah son of Fafnir), the egg had ruptured, spilling the tiny hissing creature out. A goodly sum of credits later, and the (totally not enamored- it's really just a scientific curiosity and that was all!) human with the sarane whelp was on it's way to the mines. Now the two were standing at the opening that Morgan had been directed to by the quest-offerer.

The quest offerer, in Morgan's humblest opinions, was an idiot. Who in their right mind would not only go to the mines, but then find a sarane's nest, a WILD sarane's nest, and then not only get in it, but leave something there after leaving. Just what was this person looking for whenever this happened? They also seemed reluctant to actually tell them what the item was too. Morgan cringed for a moment as they felt the sarane climb out of the backpack and onto their shoulder, clawing at the fabric of their thick labcoat. Morgan twisted, holding the backpack down for a moment, and then maneuvered the sarane back into the backpack. It snapped at the bespectacled human, and Morgan simply closed the backpack most of the way, zipping it up to the point to where the creature would just barely be able to get its head out through the gap. "Oi, I know you hate me and all, but don't do that."

Morgan was a bit surprised that the psycho-somatic effect worked as normally for sarane, even though the drakes were little monsters. Morgan knew that this creature would need to be broken, and that would take an extreme amount of work to deal with; Morgan hadn't even figured out how that was going to work yet. Ah, well. Morgan entered the cave, quietly creeping into the opening, which widened up on the inside. It was dark, and damp, and a bit spooky. Morgan frowned slightly, pushing their glasses back up on their face. Hopefully, at the very least, this entire thing was going to work decently enough. Even if Morgan didn't wind up finding the 'thing' that they were looking for, Morgan knew that they would at least have spent time with this little ticking time-bomb, and maybe it wouldn't really try hard to kill them when the time came. Morgan wasn't really even sure how that was going to work out.

As expected, Waar was snapping and chewing in the backpack, thankfully on one of the thick rubber chew toys that Morgan had put in there for the purpose. The idea was to keep the tiny demon pacified until the effect began kicking in. Morgan knew very little about these creatures, but after it hatched for them, the bespectacled human was quite curious about the species, despite the danger. It would seem that after the swallowing of the chaos node, danger was less frightening to the human than it had been previously. Still, this creature was a bit gross, all poisonous and such. Who had the idea to inject creatures with this kind of thing? Morgan climbed over a rock, thankfully they seemed to still be able to see a little bit, but it was still getting so dark, almost too dark to see. Oh, well. That would only get worse as time went on; and Morgan hoped that something would let up. Perhaps this hadn't been the best idea?

The blond human planned, in the future, to actually look up some information about sarane to really get the idea panned out. That was the plan, anyway. Morgan continued forward, having to resort to actually touching the wall to know where they were going. Inside the backpack, the chewing stopped, and the human could hear the tiny creature snapping it's jaws and practically snarling at the zipper. Well, this kind of sucked so far. Morgan was typically quite methodical with this. Ah, well, Morgan knew that it had to be done at some point. Morgan had wanted to be able to test their eyesight to see if the glowing eyes helped with seeing, but they really did not. Well, that was one experiment that wound up quite inconclusive, at best. Morgan gave in and reached down into their pocket, pulling out a really poor quality flashlight. It did not help much at all, and certainly wasn't mining quality, but it would help for this purpose, Morgan was sure.

There were several different things that Morgan could see now that the flashlight was on, as it was lighting up the front two feet in front of the human. The first was that the shaft was slowly but surely narrowing, and the second was that it was both cold and wet further on down. Great, surely a black sarane wouldn't make a nest in a wet area? Was this even the correct hole in the ground? Morgan knew that this would not be a job for them, the dust on the ground was absolutely horrendous. Morgan could not believe that this was going to be the job that a lot of people used to give them the credits they required to live. Morgan would never work at a job that required long hours in the mine. This should be a rather quick in and out, right? The sarane was causing a ruckus in the backpack at least, so this was already not good.

Morgan continued forward still, until they got to the wetness that was in the area. What Morgan had thought was water was actually stinking and dark, and not quite wet, more coagulated. Blood, absolutely disgusting. Morgan immediately recognized that this was dangerous, and swung around, using the crappy flashlight to be able to see; but not far enough to see any danger. So this was why the tiny creature had been trying to get out of the backpack... Huh. That was not good, at least! The creature had probably smelled the blood and got aggressive feeling, since they were predators. Morgan hadn't brought it any food or anything yet either; perhaps the idea should have been to have grabbed things at home before coming here? The possibility of getting lost was quite high, of course, and that wouldn't be good. Morgan had thought that this was going to be a straight shot from the front of the cave to the nest. Morgan never claimed that they weren't naive.

The bespectacled human was quiet for a moment, staring down at the blood and trying to think of how long it took to make most creatures' blood coagulate like that. There wasn't any fur or anything around, so it was probably not going to be a good thing to stay here. Something was here before, not long ago but also not super close to now either. It did take time for blood to coagulate, like that. Morgan chose a direction, namely the one where the blood seemed to have smudged toward, as if something had dragged it towards that area. Morgan figured that following that would be a good way to find a creature's nest, since things typically killed a food item and went to their nest, right? So whoever had been asking for this had been telling the truth, right? Something like that was down here... Had the person been raiding a black sarane nest?

Waar was absolutely panicking at this point, scraping at the material to get out, until the tiny black and mottled creature seemed to figure out that they could stick their head out, at least, through the backpack. It's tiny golden eyes seemed to glow in the dark, as if it could actually see down here. So the assumption had been correct; Waar had black sarane in his background. Sure, one could guess that by the colors, but sometimes people dyed the skin or fur of creatures that they were going to sell, to try to get a higher price out of them. Morgan knew that this was the case, and that there was probably some way to get a creature dyed while it is still in the egg, and was a bit surprised as they looked over the shoulder and right into the golden shining eyes of the tiny creature. "Well, it looks like you are at home, at least."

Morgan was hoping that, as they walked down the shaft towards where the blood seemed to have been dragged off to, that if they were lucky, they would not run into any actual sarane. All things were pointing to there being actual sarane around here though, and that was a bit terrifying. Morgan couldn't feel worried about it, however, and instead began feeling tiny buzzing sensations in their fingertips. Yes, anything that made Morgan feel in danger caused an almost involuntary feeling magical reaction, and Morgan had not yet began testing it to figure out how to use it at will instead of feeling it blindly rearing it's head. Morgan had been a bit afraid of it at first, which had worsened the reaction, but was feeling quite a bit more at ease with it now. Morgan could keep it from blindly releasing, at least most of the time. The sarane didn't seem to notice, so it must not be outwardly visible, Morgan thought as they kept their eyes on the lookout for danger.

It was so hard to see, especially considering the rather useless flashlight that the blond human was using, so it really was a bit of a rush to do this. Finally, Morgan heard a noise; and knew almost immediately what it was. The scraping rhythmic against the floor, and the low rumbling not far behind Morgan. The tiny whelp in Morgan's backpack made a slight rustling noise as soon as this was noticed, dodging down quickly into the backpack. Morgan knew that turning around would be the best bet; and then turned around. The stench was terrible as Morgan looked straight into the open jaw of a black mother hen. This thing was huge; perhaps the offspring of some ancient drake that had been around here; and she was definitely more interested in Morgan's tiny sarane whelp than she was of eating at the moment. Morgan knew that if she attacked; that they had no chance whatsoever.

Morgan stood still, and then realized something a bit odd.
The bespectacled human wasn't scared. No sweating, no trembling, no mouth dryness or otherwise. The heart beat stayed strong and steady, not speeding up or slowing down. Huh. That was certainly not what Morgan had expected. It was perhaps an odd thing to notice, more so than the fact that there was, for all intents and purposes, a man-eating sarane hen standing right in front of him, half clinging to a wall and all, drooling all over the ground and snapping it's mouth. Morgan just wasn't feeling fear; wasn't feeling anything. Fear was an important response, scientifically, to prepare someone's body for the inevitable fleeing or fighting that needed to occur when someone was going to be attacked and all. However, Morgan felt something else rise up instead; a bit of a tickly, excited feeling from deep in their gut. It floated up to their chest and past their heart into their throat.
As the tiny whelp made fearful noises trembling in the backpack; Morgan laughed.
