The bespectacled human glanced down to check on and possibly comfort Whisper, whenever they caught sight of the cute little blep face that the tiny critter was making. They couldn't keep theirself from chuckling at that. "W-well, I d-didn't much like that either. Hopefully there i-isn't gonna be much more of that." They murmured. Perhaps it was not logical to speak to one's pets when they were not clever, but sometimes it seemed like their critters understood a word or two, and something about that tended to calm them down when they were stressed. They weren't feeling all that stressed (yet) but things at the mansion could easily change for the absolute worse without any indication that it was going to happen at all- and that always kept Morgan on their toes. Whisper's face evens out for the most part, though one of her eyes is still a little more squinty than the other.

Despite the horrid pollen attack from just earlier, the air was mostly devoid of the choking material now and was lightly scented with what Morgan could easily pick out as being something like coconut, jasmine, and sea-salt. It was an odd sort of smell, very perfumey- not as natural-smelling as Morgan would have expected from any real flowers. Not that things had to be 'real' to work out at the mansion. Perhaps if they were lucky, they could find the source of said smell and bring it home to distill something to scent their home with it. It was a really nice smell. Whisper watches all of the flowers with slightly squinted eyes, her little arms holding her up and out of the pocket so that she could see. Morgan had once tried to put her on their shoulder, but her little claws were quite painful! For now, she was the perfect size for a large and deep pocket.

Morgan moves forward, trying to find an opening in the outer hedges (covered in flowers and vines that didn't make any sense to them at all- as if they were the same plant instead of something that was using the structure of other plants, like ivy) for them to walk into the garden proper. The mansion always made things at least a little difficult on them, but they were determined to find a way to get to the mansion itself without being too harried. They reached down to pet Whisper on the head gently every now and again as they walked. Finally, they were able to find a small gap in the hedges, and though perhaps they felt a little bit like this was what the mansion 'wanted' them to do (even though that thought made no sense) they took that way anyway. It was only around the first 'bend' that they realized that this felt a lot like a hedge maze.

Whisper didn't seem as worried about the situation as Morgan was; and of course she wouldn't be. To her, the world was just full of color and warmth for once- instead of all of the terrible snow that she'd gotten used to over the last few months. This year had been a very snowy winter, to say the least! She was pleased with the change of scenery. As for Morgan, they already knew just in their gut that if they turned directly around- they wouldn't be able to come back the way that they had entered the hedge maze. "Darn." Morgan grumbles. "This place always does this..." They felt that way, anyway. Something about the situation reminded them of the time that they'd found a boat during one of the 'beach' months- a big giant ghost ship that was difficult to get out of despite being razed upon the rocky simulated beach.

Hopefully this month at the mansion would be as 'gentle' as it was rumored to be. Morgan always felt little to no apprehension about visiting the mansion outside of the area, but as soon as they entered the mansion this strange and illogical sinking sense of dread would begin to nest. It was an odd thing, and something that Morgan was not able to process up to this time. They decided to keep to the left in the little hedge maze they'd found theirself in; even though the mansion could probably keep that from being as viable a strategy as it would normally be elsewhere (in a more normal, physical law abiding area that is). Despite knowing that they were practically trapped and corralled in the hedge maze, Morgan felt... Well, much less trapped than they should have felt in the moment. The sun shone above, despite the maze being cast in shadow to a small degree.

Morgan was sure to walk on the side that was far away from the shadow. They were just enjoying the warmth of the sun too much to stand in the chill of the shadow cast by the hedge maze. The maze was completely covered near wall-to-wall in nicely scented flowers, none of which held the tell-tale scent that Morgan had liked (they could tell when they reached down to sniff them every now and again) earlier. After a few twists and turns, Morgan hears Whisper make the softest of little half squeak noises, and that tips Morgan off to look at her. She was gesturing somewhat at what Morgan had thought to be just another of the multicolored blooms that were all around them. Whenever the human looks at it with just a little more discernment, they are able to realize that it was some kind of... Egg? It was bright metallic gold, and it was cracked.

Sometimes, Whisper was fed eggs. Morgan always made sure to cook them and only feed her the whites- though Whisper mostly was fed a diet of fruits as her daily meals. Morgan wasn't sure if she was going to turn out to be a carnivore or herbivore or something else in the middle someday. It was pretty normal for critters to be accustomed to one sort of diet as a juvenile, and as an adult they might change to something that would be off-limits to them as a hatchling, so Morgan was always careful to offer her several different sorts of diets to watch to see what kind of food she would prefer as she grew. That was probably what had alerted Whisper to the egg; the smell of it. However, it was empty- just the glistening golden shell. Morgan had sort of toed it with the toe of their boot to check on it.

Morgan hadn't really thought about the other possibilities for Whisper's interest in the egg- in fact, Whisper really had most interest for the shiny color. Her little nest (Morgan had allowed her access to all sorts of things in which she could make a nest) was often found to be decorated with shiny little bits and bobs. Anything metallic or brightly colored interested her- and Morgan often thought she might be a little on the smart side due to it. Like birds, it reminded Morgan of birds, really. Anything that was found to be dangerous within the nest that Whisper had made was periodically cleaned out by Morgan, much to Whisper's chagrin. She never seemed to chew on any of it much, it was only ever arranged in strange ways that seemed to defy any logic that a humanoid might have. Sometimes, Morgan even caught her staring at her little hoard... Almost as if she simply liked to watch the sun beams shine on it.

Morgan goes to walk away from the little broken shell, and Whisper makes a higher pitched (in fact it was abnormally loud for her) wail. "What is it, w-Whisper? Y- y'ain't got any food there, see?" They say, nudging the little broken shell with their foot again. "Nothin' in there." Whisper makes another noise, and sort of manages (just barely) a 'grabby motion' and a snapping of her jaws. Morgan reaches down to pick up the shell, and since it appeared mostly clean and didn't have a stench, they turned it towards her to show her. "See? It ain't g-got anything in it." They murmured. "N-no food." However, that wasn't what Whisper wanted at all. She reaches out, and manages to grab the shell from Morgan, dragging the delicate but fairly rigid shell into Morgan's pocket.
"Oh." Morgan says, staring down at the little creature. "It's because it is shiny, h-huh?"

Of course it was because the shell was shiny. Morgan could have practically face-palmed, at that. They should have noticed that earlier. At least the thing didn't stink- and maybe it didn't even ever have any sort of yolk or whites in it at all. The mansion could be odd like that, sometimes. "Alrighty then." They murmured, righting theirself and continuing on the walk. They were keeping up with which direction they were in using the position of the sun ahead of them, knowing that they needed to keep their bearings if they wanted to keep going the vague direction of the mansion while stuck in the hedge maze. Their ultimate goal was to do some exploring in there this month- since they were sure that they had never managed to actually get in the mansion during the month of March before. Whisper continued to ride in their pocket- now looking at everything outside of the pocket again.

Morgan continued to travel in the hedge-maze. Every now and again Whisper would make that noise again- claiming to see something, and Morgan would have to try to find whatever object it was. Whisper was not nearly as good at finding stuff as Kaodie was, and it did leave Morgan feeling distinctly like they were missing out on finding some kind of super-awesome treasure just because they'd taken little Whisper out with them instead of Kaodie. However, Kaodie needed rest, and that was that. Plus, they'd been wanting to spend some time out with Whisper before it was time to take her to the Mansion for her check up, and they'd been meaning to do it for so long that if they didn't just go out and do it, they were never going to. At least the adventure seemed to be going fine? For now, at least. That didn't always wind up being the case when one explored the mansion's ever-ominous grounds.

Whisper may not have been as lucky as their beloved familiar; but Morgan did have to admit that she had an eye for shinies in her own right. After a couple of different twists and turns in the leafy maze, the tiny dark-colored fossil-beast screeches about as loud as Morgan had ever heard from her tiny little lungs and then she seems to gesture with her little nose towards a very specific direction. The creature 'points' towards the four-o-clock position from where Morgan was standing, and it forces them to have to turn slightly around to see what she was getting at. There was a break in the maze; one that was big enough that Morgan could theoretically crawl through it without too much difficulty. Beyond it, something strange seemed to shimmer. Morgan was wary of this; the mansion often seemed to have particularly dangerous 'tricks' to play on those that found theirselves exploring the grounds.

Morgan was not at all keen to get down on their hands and knees and crawl up in this hole in the labyrinth of leaves' wall, not to get shinies that little Whisper had seen or anything else for that matter, but the tiny fossil critter was absolutely screeching in want of whatever shiny thing she had seen. That was the most annoying noise Morgan had heard in a long time. "Sshhh, shh, calm d-down, W-whisper!" Morgan murmurs to the little critter, patting her head with a forefinger. It wasn't working at all to make the tiny fossil beast calm down, or stop her shrieking. At this point, if there was anything dangerous in the labyrinth (as tends to occur in different stories that Morgan had read) Whisper (who most certainly was NOT whispering!) was going to lead the danger right to them. "Hush n-now." Morgan says, a little more firmly now.

Despite Morgan trying to calm the little fossil beast and doing everything within their power to calm her down, they were not able to do anything to keep her quiet. "Fine, fine!" Morgan complains to the creature. "I'll go, I'll g-go, but if anything bad happens I'm blaming you." They decided. They looked around to make sure that there wasn't, in fact, a monster in this labyrinth that was at least near enough them to hurt them when they were distracted, and they sighed upon realizing that there wasn't. They didn't really have an excuse not to bend down and crawl through the hole now, and of course Whisper would not allow them to simply walk away without some particularly loud screeching. They bend down and get on their hands and knees, and then they moved forward to crawl beneath the hedge in the hole that was large enough for them to crawl through.
