Current Quest
*Equipment currently in Possession* {placed within a bag, and held in the Mine Rover} From taking along an Equillion that sets itself on fire, to bringing with him a very small Vespa butterfly, though granted. A very beautiful one. He is starting to question his own sanity with taking along only her, and not something a little less delicate looking on this quest. He does plan on doing some mining, but figures it might be best to first search for this elusive nest while taking along his cart with equipment, and her on his shoulder. The warmth she exudes is pleasant to feel while the chill of the mining shafts becomes only stronger the deeper they go, her antennae only slightly tickling his neck. At least with one thing he is sure off when it comes to his aptly named Dysis, with having ordered the lab in creating a Vespa of his ideals and what he wanted her to be capable of. He knows she’d be able to handle a Sarane, the only trouble will be getting her to the point she’d be willing to fight for him. He can only hope that with her having seen his face the first time upon awakening, and going into possible danger together, will tie her loyalty more towards him. He did think he might have read somewhere that fighting for your life together with someone could create deeper bonds, he can only hope that is true. He passes more shafts that leads away from the main road then he cares to admit, but from the description the owner left behind in blue ink, and some vague information that was supplied to him when taking up the quest. He is going on the hunch that he might have first traveled the more known paths, before heading to a lesser known tunnel, and with the talk of items he is guessing that the passageway might be big enough for a mining cart to pass through. That didn’t mean he wasn’t checking the ground continuously either, he knows with having dropped off his Drake Sarene in the pits how their foot prints look like. The only thing that would make it difficult, is being able to judge whether it could have been from a tame Sarene or a wild one, as it is the latter they need to hunt down.

Pulling with one hand the cart, he uses the other to lightly stroke the fur on her back with two fingers, being careful not to touch the wings, for he wasn’t certain how delicate they actually were. He is glad that for now he doesn’t need to use a Flashlight when the place is still well lit, and the cart itself possesses a lamp to light the way as well. ‘We should be heading into a darker passage way soon.’ He comments to her, trying to distract her from the nibbling she does at the side of his throat suddenly. He dearly hopes she isn’t going to nip him there. He uses his fingers to lightly push her head away from his neck. “No, don’t do that.” He says out loud in a firm tone, when distracting her by talking inside her mind hadn’t worked from stopping her nibbling. He isn’t certain yet why she hasn’t said anything through the link they have, but he figures it must still be something she is going to have to learn on her own.

He stopped at one of the tunnel shafts, frowning. Something about this one feels like it might be the right shaft to enter in, whichever direction after wards he’d need to go in, he doesn’t know. But his hunch of this being the one feels strong inside of him. Letting go of the rope for the moment, he opens the cart to grab a flashlight from it, clicking it on, he closes the trunk and then grabs the rope and pulls it into the shaft, aiming the light in the darker tunnel. ‘You aright Dysis?’ He feels awkwardly asking it her, but she hadn’t said much in the beginning. Just staying on the spot at his shoulder the whole time, and if it wasn’t for the occasional antennae tickling his throat, or nibbling at it, he would have thought he was completely alone here. “Trr.” He twitched slightly at hearing the sudden noise, a soft trill coming from her. He wonders what it might have meant, but doesn’t bother asking, instead he keeps a look out for any signs of scratch markings on either the ground or sides of the cavern.

It is luckily still big enough for the cart to pass through, but it made for a more bumpy ride as the floor wasn’t smoothed out through years of constantly being walked upon. He wondered if this could be the right tunnel the further that they walked, but the hunch of feelings he got that this could be the one is strong enough to quell his thoughts of going back. He has to stop at one particular moment when he couldn’t pull the cart further along as stalagmites where starting to form here. He has to lift and wheel it almost to its side in order to get through with some. “Trr?” He hears Dysis say suddenly when he ducks down again to in order to lift the cart and move it further, but freezes for a moment when he hears her. He isn’t certain exactly what she meant with this one, but it felt odd to feel her wings move and lightly hit the back of his head. ‘Dys?’ He send to her, petting with two fingers her back with the hand not holding the Flashlight, no, he used the flashlight to make extra certain they where still alone, and no stray drake might be appearing suddenly. ‘What is it?’ He tries to make his voice sounds concerned in pitch, but he didn’t feel it. Instead, he was more tense by her suddenly making a noise. It made him wonder if she sensed something perhaps that he hadn’t. He certainly hadn’t seen any distinct scratch markings on the floor or walls yet.

“Trrrii..” He hears her trill in a lilting tone, making him uncertain what exactly she is asking as he isn’t familiar enough with the pitches and tones to just know what they mean. That she hasn’t used her ribbon yet either to communicate makes him wonder if she is even able to do it, but so far, all creatures he owns where able to perfectly use it. Petting her softly on the back for a moment again, he picked up right where he left of. Lifting the cart slightly and moving it away from the rocks growing under them. ‘If this goes on, I might have to leave it here temporarily.' He couldn’t help but grimace, hopefully he didn’t need to go to that extreme, but with the way things where going. It might certainly end up being the fastest method to find that nest. When he is finally able to pull the cart more easily again on the ground, he started focusing once more on the ground, noting just a slight indent here and there from boots of people who previously passed here, but the marks seemed old. So there really wasn’t much traveling going on around this part. “How far would it be till we might be passing a water source?” He says out loud, wondering if Dysis would respond more if he actually hears his voice physically then mentally. “Trrr?” His lips twitch only for a moment upwards as he hears her respond. So she can respond to things, even if he has no idea what she is saying. Bringing the rope in the hand holding the flashlight he then uses his hand to lightly scratch her back, the softer trill he gets makes him think of purring. But as this species wasn’t designed after a cat, he couldn’t say for certain that this is what she tried doing. After a minute of petting her, something he is starting to enjoy doing with her as her appearance is rather captivating. He takes the rope in his free hand and pulls again. Walking further inside the cavern, he uses the flashlight on one particular spot that seems to have small indents in them. Letting go of the rope for a moment he comes closer to that part of the ground. Kneeling down to examine it better. It are definitely scratch marks of claws that where done deliberately at this part, but not big enough yet for a Sarane, though perhaps.. Looking at it from a different angle, he wonders if these marks might have been done by a hatchling instead? Looking further at the ground he does notice boot prints that from what he can tell, seem to be of the same age. Almost making him disheartened at that fact. Yet.. Going back to the cart he compares the foot prints he has so far seen in the area. None of them contain the scratch marks here at all. Was it a wild hatchling then that got snatched up, and the owner of the boot prints just left the area after that? He hesitates to say yes for certain, but the scratch marks only appear to this point, and the foot prints of the others seem to have stopped, trampled more of this part of the area yes, but it didn’t go much further when the scratch marks started appearing. So perhaps he is coming closer to at least one of the Sarane nests that got the item? He didn’t have any information on how long ago the item was lost exactly, so this is his best bet then he supposes.

The mines seemed a little more sinister than usual; a howl could be heard coming from a strange new hallway that wasn't really there before? In addition, it seemed to spiral away, down it, as far as the eye could see.

His eyes narrow when he hears a howl coming from somewhere in front of them, he didn’t think it could have been coming from behind them as he doubts any owners would just let their creatures howl and announce their presence. He also hasn’t seen the tunnel split of into different directions yet. “ Shhh.” He hisses under his breath at Dysis when he felt like she was about to make a noise, tapping her on the back for a moment as he tried listening further for anymore sounds. Her antennae brushes his neck as she settles down again, her wings open and one part touching his neck, it felt just as pleasantly warm as the rest of her body is, heating his skin just enough on his shoulder, even through the layers of clothing he wears to keep some of the chill away. After a moment he slightly relaxes, there didn’t appear to be more forthcoming for now, and hopefully it will stay that way. But that noise.. Can a Sarane make such a noise? He hopes if that is the case, it will be long gone when they arrive at the nest if that could be the case. Picking up the rope again that he had let go of when the noise first started, he walked further again, keeping track of the claw marks that what he thinks might be a wild hatchling is leaving behind, and becomes only more the further they walk. Supporting his theory about it. Letting his flashlight shine against the walls more then the ground, he stops. The road seems to be split into two now, one path still big enough for the cart to go through, and the other would force him to leave behind the cart. He wanted to dismiss the tunnel that would force him to leave behind his possessions, but he hesitates. Letting go of the rope he examines the ground, checking to make certain where exactly the claw marks go. To his dismay, while it does appear that the preferred tunnel has some markings of claws, he can tell that while the hatchling strayed in that direction, the claw markings also went back to his least preferred tunnel. Showing more marks on it than he wished to have seen, as that can only mean one thing. “He came from this direction.” He states grimly as he uses the flashlight to see how far the tunnel goes. Too far for his liking when he didn’t see an end, and that it starts to spiral in some strange way. That will be a problem.

“Trr? Trr..” He hears Dysis say suddenly, and he turns his head to look her in the eyes somewhat, it was more looking at her in the corner of his eyes and with poor lighting as he still had his flashlight aimed at the tunnel, and the light of the mining cart isn’t all that bright to begin with. “What?” He snaps when she did little else then staring at him. Rolling his eyes, he decides that before they would go inside. It might be better to eat something first. Who knows how long it will be before they get the chance to be back at the mining cart? Walking to the side of the cart, he pops open the trunk, ignoring most of the equipment that lays there, he already got currently the most important ones on him, his helmet and the flashlight. No, instead he went for the plastic bag, opening it to expose three different packages. One packet of fruit slices, another with some mochi for himself, and a slab of meat. He wasn’t sure what Dysis would be in the mood for, so he had taken both a choice of fruit and meat to let Dysis decide on her own what she wants. Dropping the bag outside the cart for a moment, and closing the trunk, he used his free hand to carefully take Dysis of her shoulder, tensing when her claws continued to grip on his clothing, not wanting to move away from him. Only by being persistent in tugging her off his shoulder did he succeed, and the noise she makes back at him. A dark sort of trill made him eye her with caution, he knows exactly what she is capable of should she decide he’d be a tasty snack when well roasted. “Don’t be like that.” He grumbles back in annoyance after no flames where going to be spouted from her mouth, he did wince slightly when her body felt warmer then before for a moment as he sets her down on top of the cart. ‘Now, a choice of food.’ He says firmly inside his mind as he takes out the two packages meant for her, opening them both. ‘Fruit?’ He says while raising his right hand with the package after having set down the flashlight where it aims at the wall. ‘Or meat?’ He says while raising his left, the scents of both food types could clearly be smelt. He sees see her move slightly more to the meat, her eyes clearly looking at that, the smell is certainly stronger from that one. ‘Use your words Dysis.’ He says in his mind, hoping that this would make her be more willing to talk to him, or at least want to figure out how this link works. He waves both packages near her, and sees her constantly try to reach the meat packages with two of her front claws wide spread. Showing the sharp hooks on them that is meant for rending and tearing prey. He shivers slightly, glad she hasn’t used it on him yet. ‘C’mon Dysis, don’t you want some food? Say which you want. Meat or Fruit?’ He raises each packed slightly before lowering it when he mentioned what is inside of it. After a few seconds Dysis lowered her front claws, hiding them once more by folding them and showing only her usual paws. “Trrr!” She exclaims, making him wonder for a moment if she is cursing him out, but he waits as patiently as possible. Narrowing his eyes when he sees her flap her wings, heavily implying with his look that she shouldn’t even be thinking of doing that. ‘Meat or fruit?’ He repeats himself, doing the same action as before. ‘..MEAT!!’ He winces at the suddenly loud tone in his mind, it might have been one word, but if she decided to repeat it in that same pitch again and again, he is sure to get a headache from it. ‘Meat it is.’ While he wanted to scold her for being so loud, at least she did say something. Which means that the link is working. Dropping the meat package on top of the cart, he closes the other one. Only watching Dysis long enough to see she is eating the raw meat. He then went back to his own package of Mochi, opening it to grab one of them, and taking a small bite in it.

It tasted rather bland, a bit like a marshmallow at the dough, but not quite making it. He has to chew on just that piece multiple times in order to get some moisture back in his mouth when the chalky after taste comes up, and then swallows. Eyeing the rest of the Mochi, he decides to try the inside instead of the outside, perhaps that would leave a better taste? Peeling it open he carefully eats the bean paste, this at least tastes a lot better and is much sweeter and easier to eat. Finishing the first one, he drops it in the package and peels open the second one, taking care to only eat the inside of it, and not the dough. Next time he will be checking to make certain he actually likes the taste of what he brings, instead of going on a trip with food he never tried before. Dropping that one when finished back in the package, he looks back at Dysis. Her slab of meat had a quarter out of it already, and she didn’t seem interested in eating more of it. Which is enough reason for him to package that as well, and drop everything in the plastic bag once more. Opening the trunk only a quarter since Dysis is on it, he drops the bag inside it, then closes it securely once more. “C’mon Dysis, its best we search for this nest.” He says to her, carefully picking her up in a scooping motion and resting his hand on his shoulder. Slowly letting her climb back on him again, and feeling the pleasant warmth on his shoulder once more at that spot. “Ttrrr..” He doesn’t know what she is trying to say with that, so he ignores it for the moment, only picking up his flashlight and carefully making his way towards the tunnel, being sure to aim the light at it. He can still clearly see a Sarane hatchling having climbed its way up to this point, its sharp claws leaving indents when he comes to the part where it drops down in a spiral formation. From what he can tell it is big enough to go through without anything special needing to be done so long as he uses his arms and feet to push himself on all sides and use his arms to begin the progress of moving down first, then slowly letting go at the feet to drop some. That it is in a spiral formation might make it more difficult, but at the parts its slightly more vertical would perhaps allow him to rest some.

Nodding to himself as a confirmation of his decision, he takes the end of the flashlight in his mouth, and slowly lowers himself in the hole. Taking care to have his hands still grip the edge, while pushing his feet against both sides of the wall. Drool starts forming at the corner of mouth with keeping the flashlight in it, but he can’t exactly do anything about that. “Trrr?” He hears Envix say as he finally found with his hands some purchase to push at both sides, being infinitely glad that the hole isn’t so big that it will be difficult to do this, even if one has shorter arms or legs. Slowly, bit by bit, he went down the passageway. Resting on the parts where the spiral formation was slightly more vertical and only needing to use his legs to push against one side, while leaning his back against the tough wall. Sometimes rocks dig into his back when he does that, making him wince in pain and clutch the flashlight only tighter in his mouth, just to bite on something when that happens, but overall there didn’t appear to go anything wrong for now. Dysis stayed quiet while on his shoulder, occasionally moving a bit so that she wouldn’t be squashed against the wall when he rested. Her antennae occasionally tickling his throat when she moves. In all this time after that one word he was able to get out from her, she hadn’t said another word inside his mind. It troubled him only slightly that she didn’t feel the need for communication, but perhaps when she gets to know him more she’d be more willing for it. At least teasing her with the meat worked, so he could always try that again if all else failed.

When the unending spiraling downwards tunnel finally ended, it was almost ant-climatic that he dropped down onto the ground, or at least a vertical placement of the tunnel with about roughly fifty-five inches of space between the exit and the new ground. Not enough height for him to walk easily as he needs to bend his back, but easy enough to get back in the tunnel again when he is six feet and one inch tall. Taking out the flashlight from his mouth, he wipes it down from his drool, grimacing in disgust. At least it’s better then getting Hades snot or spit on his face, that one is a whole different conundrum. There is certainly a more chilled air around here compared to when they where at the cart, but the pleasant warmth Dysis emits makes him want to lean more into her as well, it doesn’t even matter she is only five inches tall and couldn’t possible cover his whole body, just the warmth he was able to feel made things less unpleasant to be here. Using the flashlight he looks around at the ground and walls, the claw markings of the hatchling continued here, and a few skeletons of rats were scattered around here. Most of them broken and ripped to pieces, probably it was the hatchlings food before it decided to go further up. looking for something better. Carefully he walks further, the signs that there might have been more then one hatchling at some point are there. Too many claw markings on the ground, rats and at one point a bigger creature’s skeleton of unknown species could be found the further he walks. Making him tense and anxious, should it not be a nest from which the Sarane mother left already, and Dysis decides to flee instead of attacking something that is wanting to take a piece out of them, he’ll be screwed. Pushing those thoughts away as best as possible, he kneels down curiously when he catches something with the flashlight on the ground that he hasn’t noticed before. Carefully picking it up, he rubs his fingers lightly against the material. It feels like clothing. A rustic red brown stain seems to cling in one of the corners. ‘Dried blood?’ He shivers at that thought, the piece of clothing was only about two hands big and looked like it had been chewed on if the rips are any indication. Small teeth though, so perhaps from the hatchling who wanted to chew on it like a toy? He sighs, ‘What a mess.’ at least this all pretty much indicates a nest is near. Hopefully a old one, but with his luck.. Well. He’ll just have to hope Dysis would be willing to aid him should one still be near and wanting to defend the nest. Petting her on the back with two fingers lightly, he hears her trill very softly, leaning into his hand. He does this for about a minute, as he knows he shouldn’t stall for what might happen when they continue on. So he aims his flashlight on the ground in order to make sure he isn’t stepping on more skeletons then the few rat one’s he accidently crushed already, as he moves further in the tunnel with the firm hope that he and Dysis will make it out alive.

The further he went through the passageway, the more he started to smell something rotten, like meat that has gone bad for days, maybe even longer. It made him hesitant to still continue on, but with how close he is now already in completing his goal. He will have to push through it, and hope that the beast is gone for a bit. The claw markings of a much larger Sarane are visible here now, the ground is scattered with it, but it didn’t give the feeling of fresh marks. Together with the marks of a hatchling, only more. So either it lived here for a long time, or the nest contains more than one hatchling. He coughed when the smell started to become particular bad, and hopes the Sarane is far, far away in order to not have heard the noise. Aiming his flashlight further then just the ground, he thought he might be seeing something shiny with the rock formation that was there. Frowning, he started to notice something odd that he hadn’t actually looked at properly. Some of the rock formation is black, not grey, and white seems to stick out of it? ‘Meat! He hears Dysis shout suddenly in his mind, wings fluttering in a way that indicated she wants to fly, but as she herself is still something of a newborn in a way, she didn’t dare quite yet to actually try flying.

“Oh..” He exhales, as when he finally comes close enough to the nest, he starts to understand Dysis reaction just a little bit better. He sees a black Hen Sarane lying there, death. Its flesh thorn apart and left to rot. While when he investigates further, slightly more relaxed now that he knows there isn’t coming a live one after him, the beam of light from his torch also hits a smaller form. “Interesting..” He murmurs, not sure if he is supposed to feel anything for the sight of a death mother and its hatchling. From what he can gather with the clues now laid out before him either the mother or one of its hatchlings grabbed something from the person who requested it back, and within that time frame the mother must have died for some reason, one or two of the hatchlings must have fed on her while she is death, or the marks of the hatchling he had noticed before, left the nest before all this happened. The other hatchling might have died from eating too much rotten meat perhaps? Or caught whatever sickness the mother had by eating on her flesh? It didn’t look like the body of that one was in any way ripped apart. ‘Meat!’ “No-t now Dy-sis!” He snaps while coughing, whatever the cause is, he needs to go quickly. Grab whatever the item of the owner was, and leave before either of them could get sick as well. “Trr..” Now that noise compared to the others before it sounded almost sullen in a way.

He pets her back carefully with two fingers in the hope it will calm her down some and he uses his torch to light every part of the nest. He is certain he saw something shiny here. Most of what else could have been classified as shiny was just rubbish, pretty cheap looking as well for those just a few grades above the rubbish rating in his eyes. No, he is searching for that one particular glint he noticed before anything else. Walking around the nest, he smirks as the light lands on a medallion with a gold alloy and flower pattern on it with rubies from what he can tell socketed inside it to form the petals. This, this is the one. Stopping the petting motion for now as she has calmed down at least with fluttering her wings against the back of his neck, he almost wanted to reach out and pick up the medallion before remembering it might have the sickness clinging on it. Frowning, he starts searching his pockets for something that could be of use. A handkerchief offered the solution to him for now. Carefully picking up the medallion he can see its been chewed on, the back carrying indents of tiny teeth, while the gold chain is broken at some parts and falls to the ground. He sighs, well, this will be troublesome. Laying the medallion on the ground right next to the chains, he uses the handkerchief to move the parts closer to each other, and when that finally happened, he grabbed all the parts, making sure to never come into actual contact with it, and wrapping it up tightly before pocketing it.
