Renathan was the kind of person to run around and do errands for people, so when he heard about the Quest Board for the first time; he had not quite been able to do the first one, even though he had heard about it. He had been far too busy, doing all sorts of other things! He was still a little too busy to go on pleasure trips, but he was sure that the poor individual that needed something done this time would certainly need his help; and his alone. Renathan had went up against a sarane in the mines before, and he had found a hatchling before. There were not many people out there that could do what he had done, there were a few...
But not many. Renathan just knew that he had to do it. He steps up to the board and removes the quest note, trying to figure out as much about the situation as possible. The individual had left some nebulous item in the caverns in the mines, somehow in a sarane nest that the person had found? The person was a fellow jewel-smith it seemed, and Renathan was sure that he needed to come help with this sort of thing. As soon as Renathan went to the quest counter, he was able to obtain something that appeared to be a kind of map. Well, that should at least help a bit, right? Wrong. It turned out that it looked like it was drawn by a child.
It wasn't a child that had lost something down there, right? Renathan asked the counter individual, and was told that it was a grown person. Ah, well. Not everyone could draw well, correct? Renathan chuckled at the odd thing, and pocketed it anyway. It may help, right? Renathan scooted along quietly, moving to the mines. He brought some of his things, but was sure that he wasn't going to be in the mines for any longer than it was going to take to hopefully find this nebulous thing-a-thing. Renathan wondered vaguely what it was. It must be something special if they individual didn't want it disclosed, even to the people that would be finding it, right? Renathan shook his head as he found the mineshaft that was indicated by name on the list, and then he entered the mines at that point.
Renathan was incredibly used to going into the mines, so this was not surprising or scary for him at all. He simply entered the giant pit and moved down into the darkness, and then turned on his flashlight. Renathan was not frightened really at all; not even when a somewhat strange dripping noise began getting louder as he went down the hallway. Yes, that was a strange noise; he hadn't seen water in the mines before, but he had heard about it. It was a good thing to assume that the mines were at least partially carved out, he was sure, by water flowing through softer rock from the water table. That would make a lot of sense! However, the large amount of gems that could be found here was simply baffling to him. It wasn't this way back in his homeland, at least, so he wasn't sure if it was his homeland that was lacking, or if it was Pethia that was just weird. Or maybe that was the reason why the Labs were made here, and thus the City? Renathan was not completely sure.
Renathan had always found mining very calming, a good place to think a lot. However, Renathan was always on his guard when it came to the mines now since he and Lisle had been attacked that time in the mines by the sarane. He hadn't really even seen the sarane all that clearly, it had been quite scary, however, and had left Lisle permanently crippled. In order to get better at walking again, Lisle went through so much physical therapy, and finally Renathan found a couple of potions to help him turn into a species that was large enough and four-legged, so that he could walk without having to use the faulty hind left leg. Renathan was still incredibly guilty about the entire thing. Even now, as he tried to follow the poorly drawn map, Renathan was keeping a lot of attention on the area. He finally ran into what he was sure was a pit where water was running beneath. The mammalian leaned down, and put the light down towards the cavern. Yup; just below, there was a stream of water, practically a rushing river at this point. Renathan shook his head, and made a mental note to go around the hole.
The mammalian stood up and carefully avoided the hole where the water was rushing beneath, and kept on walking. He knew that this would be fine, but he kept his eyes out for any other holes. He hoped that he would come across the nest soon, but he knew that it wouldn't always occur just the way he wanted it to. Finally, Renathan was standing at a strange landmark; a strange hole that made a whistling noise. That was a good sign; supposedly this was quite close to the area! However, he could see that there was a split in the path, a split that was not marked on the paper. Renathan looked incredibly puzzled, glancing between the two walkways and the poorly drawn map in his hand. Well, which one was it?
Renathan picked...
