Somehow, despite claiming to not be much interested in the creatures, she managed to accrue a handful of those long haired orbaru. Unlike almost any other creature she owed... the orbaru were an oddity she instantly adored. She hadn't really noticed that small furry things weren't a common thing in her life - but the smallest 'cute' thing she had were faeron. Everything else she owned was functional... or intended to be someday anyway. For her to be interested in orbaru went against the grain for a kennel full of 'working' creatures. Like pachee were though, this would be a nice distraction from those beasts. At least for a little while, she could put aside thoughts of equillion that need trained and sarane that would need breaking. That was nice; she still needed to learn how to read well enough to be able to bring a book along. She was beginning to see the appeal. Just like when the pachee became fertile again, orbaru were suddenly all the rage around the city. Shops now offering new specially bred orbaru, sudden flocking to the breeding center building, business like it hadn't been in years. Certainly the shops specializing in breedables were overjoyed! People were leaving such places of supply in droves. breeding| 1

Not a day had passed that Lethalia walked through the city without seeing the results of the orbaru 'madness'. Customers on their way out of Turner's Nature's Bounty with berries and potions - some by the armful, others by the entire basketload! Booping crates were all around the city, and more than likely the creatures could be hear citywide, if you stopped what you were doing and listened at any point in time. There were more of the creatures to be found at the trading post, and even those kind enough to offer out their stock for breeding. It was a fun way to get into the creatures, and once the first few months' crowds died down, Lethalia took the chance to take someone up on their generosity. There was an amazingly fun selection to choose from! Most of her selection came down to vanity, of course. The female was charming with her dark body, offset with a stark white underbelly and face, and creamy white striped tail. Everything about her was charming, right down to those bright pink eyes. It was too cute that her name is Cake, and her colors are easily evocative of a tuxedo cake with white frosting between the layers. breeding| 2

If Cake was as warned, the orbaru would promise to be as handful of a sugar rush as her namesake implied. Her pitiful booping rang out from the bars of her carrier, weight shuffling from one side to the other. It was effort enough to hold onto the carrier, but the satyr was pretty grateful for it just right now. This one would have been particularly harrying to have on a leash, as much of a struggle she could cause just being in a carrier! The orbaru really didn't ever stop moving. The male was similarly named - Mochi. Partially because of this she'd thought them a good pair, but he was /also/ really pretty. He's nearly the inverse of Cake's primary colors, with a long luxurious white coat with black-pointed toes and outer ear. Mostly, it was those great leopard spots on his back that she was charmed by - more spots were always a good thing! His baby blue eyes and orb stood out in lovely contrast with his neutral coat, and it's easy to see why he's considered something of a stud with the females. It was yet to be seen, however, how this aloof male would react to Cake's reported friendliness and energy. breeding| 3

Even with the warning of the personality quirks of each rabbit-like creature, Lethalia was fairly confident they could make it work eventually. That was what these little guys were... pretty good at just like rabbits (and pachee), right? Supposedly their means of coupling was as unusually unassuming as pachee, though a flashing of light sounds more easily dealt with than that of a pollen fallout. At the end of the day she might rather deal with cleaning up a fine dusting of pollen over trying to herd Cake back into a small space... The breeding center approaching in her line of sight, the satyr's mouth quirked a little - this was going to be something of a boring, predictable errand, anyway. It might be too soon to make comment on the process being simple, but it's not exactly a stretch of the imagination now that she's been interacting with the pachee. They were critters who were made by the labs with the sole reason of procreating, more or less. It was an odd goal to have in engineering creatures as much as it seemed like the orbaru were capable of drowning the city entirely in their offspring, but such was the purpose of this ugly white building she headed towards. breeding| 4

It was a lingering thought - what came first, the breeding center or the breedables? The idea of the sanitary building being built in quite a hurry brought even more of a smile to her face, entertained by the idea of sanctions and regulations being put in place in a hurry when they realized what these creatures were, ah, capable of. The concept being strange still lingered, in spite of her time here. After seeing just how capable the 'breedable' creatures were of taking over the city while unchecked, the requirements made a little more sense nowadays. She tried looking at it a little more like taking a critter somewhere for studding services or something, but it still lingered that she didn't /like/ being told what to do, even in such a meaningless capacity. Ah well, they were here anyway, weren't they? Taking pause off to the side of the doors, Lethalia took a moment to check in on how these two were doing from their short journey over. Some dealt with it better than others. "You guys ready?" she asked to the carriers. Cake's intimidate answer with a serenade, seeming to get the idea they were on the precipice of someplace where she could get /out/! breeding| 5

Cake's carrier still rocked from side to side, the flashes of the orbaru visible between the holes as she wound tight circles in what area she could. Mochi, on the other hand, remained so quiet she lifted him to eye-level to check on him, unsettled at the silence. It looked like the silky just had his black ear in-paw, gingerly ensuring his dense wavy curls were sitting just so. He didn't look all that enthused with her, pretty blue eyes narrowed as if to ask 'can I help you?' Some creatures didn't need any sort of ribbon for it to be known how they were feeling. "Sorry, then. I see that y' handlin' on y' own just fine," Lethalia backtracked, setting him down on the ground to open the door before picking his carrier up again, that much was enough to get an upset boop from his carrier though. "Okay, okay. 'Scuse me, princess."Setting hoof into the breeding center's waiting area, the satyr stopped short - there were /people/ here! Even when the pachee started breeding again, the waiting room had always been empty. She hadn't done a lot with the breeding creatures, but enough to have noticed she had the place close enough to herself in the previous trips! breeding| 6

Now though? The registrar actually had something of a line, and the rows of seats bordering the room were actually in use. Lethalia had hardly even witnessed someone sitting in them, unless it was a lone soul with a single carrier trying desperately to get in contact with the partner they thought was going to be here. Though she shuffled to the back of the line, she still got the strangest feeling like she might just be in the wrong building. Being surrounded by other booping carriers ought to soothe that fear, but it had never been anything like this before! Orbaru really were supposed to be a flagship pet for around here she supposed, it made /a little/ sense, but the sheer amount of people perhaps just made her retink just /how/ popular the critters were. At least there was something nice about not being the only one here, helped to not feel like the only person who did this as a hobby. She might've met others who keep them when borrowing breeding stock, but there was seldom another soul around the actual centre. Set off by her lack of movement, Cake picked her symphony back up, pitifully pawing at the gridded bars containing her. breeding| 7

"Y'okay, pretty girl," Lethalia crooned to the orbaru, though she knew it wouldn't be much help. "Break y' outta there soon. I hope." It wasn't the most reassuring thing she could think of to say, but luckily her specific words didn't really matter when she was talking to a critter. A glance at the line in front of her, and the satyr debated standing here with her carriers for as long as it took... but everybody else had been here long enough that there were rows of them upon the ground in front of her. So she may have unintentionally lied to Cake, just a little - now she's got absolutely no idea how long this is going to take. There wasn't much a choice to be had, when it appeared she was going to be stationary for quite some time now. Giving into following the crowd, Lethalia gingerly set both of her carriers down, kneeling to peer into each cage once again, just to make sure both were faring okay with all of the commotion in here. Miraculously, all of the activity about was enough to get Mochi to lift his head from his grooming to look up at the outside world! Cake was still losing her mind, of course. breeding| 8

Mochi actually met her glance this time, looking up at her with those jeweltone eyes however briefly. It almost made sense how a creature so diminutive could at the same time be as aloof as him - he is pretty! Especially now getting a chance to look at his eyes, a light sparkling blue with just a glint of purple shining within them; his tail orb was quite pretty to match as well! "Well, at least I don't haveta worry 'bout you much," she mused with a smirk, as he went right back to his previous activities - of cleaning himself up more, obviously. It was a never-ending task, apparently! "Cake, jus' work with me," she turned and requested, twitching her finger outside of the female's cage. It was a quick way to get a delicate dark paw reaching for her finger, and the woman gently petted the top of it before her little claws could catch her. "Getcha out as soon as I can, just... don' make people think I'm tryin'a kill ya' in there." Luckily, orbaru making noise and people talking to their pets weren't going to get her many odd looks here. breeding| 9

It didn't help that Cake was making her feel guilty about it! It's not even her pet, and shes trying her best to keep the orbaru safe for the meantime since it meant someone was trusting her with their beloved animal. It almost felt as though Cake was going to go back home and 'tell' on the satyr, she was sounding so upset. Sometimes their lack of speech could be a good thing... Poking her finger into the bars got a wet, twitching nose pressed into it, and when she took it away to preposition somewhere else for Cake to pursue, felt the faint scrape of teeth before she took the digit away from the tiny terror. At least it was giving them both something to do. Continuing to allow the orbaru to bat at her fingers through the bars, at some point Lethalia looked up to find the line had actually moved up a couple of paces! Scooting the carriers forward brought forth another flurry of complaints and requests to escape from her cage, no longer being entertained enough to keep quiet about it. Mochi was keeping up his aloof air, and as long as the movements didn't interrupt him or knock him over, he didn't really seem to care enough to acknowledge the outside world. breeding| 10

Nobody liked sitting and waiting, but Mochi seemed more 'suited' towards it than most. After all, what did an enclosed space matter when it came to being busy cleaning oneself? Apparently he was just as detached to other orbaru as he was to the rest of the world, or so she'd been informed. Hopefully that wasn't going to be a problem when trying to get him to communicate with a cute female! Lethalia carried on entertaining Cake best she could, but her back and thighs began to complain over her kneeling over the carriers. It was almost certain she was going to go mad while sitting here in line. It was bad enough waiting on the critters themselves to 'do their thing', it was going to be even more trying when more time was added on where she had to wait for other people, and that was pretty awful in comparison. The satyr didn't dislike people in the least, and tried glancing at faces nearby to see if there was someone nearby willing to pick up a conversation. It shouldn't be hard - everybody likes talking about their pets once you get them started! - but nobody here today seemed the most sociable type, or too busy with themselves to want to. breeding| 11

It was a shame, but that was life. The orbaru weren't the best conversationalists she could ask for, but they were the best she had available here. The line was moving forward, but it felt like it was at a glacial pace - move up, scoot the carriers, get Cake quiet again, make sure Mochi was still as present as he was ever going to be. Pattern becoming ingrained in her thought patterns, the satyr's head rose when she noticed the person in front of her turn away - and holy shit, she was next! Popping back up to stand up straight, she found a smile again as she approached the registrar's deadpan stare. "Busy day?" Lethalia asked conversationally, the orbaru's names out of the way and the registrar beginning to fill out her paperwork. The other woman looked over her glasses at her, contemplating for a few long, judge-y seconds. Without a word, the registrar turned back to the form to be filled out, as much acknowledgement as she seemed to find acceptable to offer to the satyr. Lethalia wouldn't normally find herself effected by such things, but fell quiet at the response; what was wrong with people today? breeding| 12

It offered some explanation why all of the other patrons here were in such a dour mood, with a bookkeeper who appeared to be entering everybody's information into their forms as slowly as she could manage to. Whether or not it was purposeful it was impressive that she could manage to write so slowly even with the withering stares of all those people who accrued in the line behind her. If she knew better how to write, the satyr would've just offered to do it herself, but remained uncharacteristically quiet in the meantime while she waited. Might as well not make it more difficult than she needed to, anyway. Finally with the form completed and fettered away, the registrar handed Lethalia something she'd never seen at the breeding center yet again. A tiny slip of paper, with a number on it. Dying on her lips was a question on what it was - even if she'd never encountered this before in her life, it was clear enough what it meant. Other people held tickets, and every so often a tinny voice over speakers overhead would come on, announcing the next lucky number to get a room. Instead of bothering to ask anything more, she whisked the orbaru away to at least sit and wait. breeding| 13

There wasn't going to be anywhere to sit without brushing elbows with other people, so the satyr settled in a free seat that she could find. Lacking any better ideas for them, she set Mochi's carrier down first, gingerly putting Cake's on top of his so that the stack could rest somewhat safely between her legs. It would be nice to be able to turn them to face one another at least, but she's not sure Mochi would care enough to interact right now anyway. There was hope he would actually be interested later though, make all of this suffering worth it, hopefully! If there's always going to be this much of crowd, it's kind of hard for Lethalia to imagine herself coming back all too soon. "How're you two doin'?" she asked to the cages in front of her, not needing much of a response from Cake who had her face pressed up against the bars, bright pink eyes pleading with the woman on the other side. Man, this one really knew how to lay it on thick! Mochi seemed the same as ever, even if the smell of an active female overhead did give him a bit of a pause it seemed. breeding| 14
