Morgan had not been planning on returning until it was time to bring Nico back; mostly because they vastly preferred to have Nico with them when they went to dangerous situations like the mansion was turning out to be this month, but they had a bit of a curiosity that needed to be sated, and they figured it wouldn't hurt to have Millicent ride along with them. They were hoping that Millicent's rather good attitude at times and naivety would cause the mansion to take pity on them and not sick the hounds on them like it had last time. Morgan had been exhausted by that, last time, and of course it really made more sense than they had even thought originally, since they had after all technically been here with another humanoid, and that meant that they'd be able to take on more danger, right? Hopefully Millicent would be a boon on this trip.

Morgan really needed to become closer friends with Millicent, anyway. She was so young, but probably wouldn't be young forever, at least not mentally. Morgan wanted to make sure that the youngling was well-prepared and would eventually be able to communicate with them, but it was slow going as is. Millicent didn't seem to have interest in much of anything, possible because Morgan had moved her from where she had began before, and that was annoying to her. It made sense, most kids didn't like to be moved from their schools and homes away from their friends. However, Millicent at the very least was eating, and sleeping, and doing her own thing, slowly gaining confidence the longer that Morgan worked with her. So she wasn't entirely angry (just pretending to be) when Morgan asked her if she wanted to go somewhere (not that she knew what was being said) and then scooped her up. Now she was sitting in Morgan's pocket in front of the mansion's inner gates.

Morgan was convinced that they needed to take as much care of sentient beings as they could; it was important to them to make sure that these disenfranchised individuals were able to navigate society in a way that made their lives happy ones. There were so many ways of actually being hurt in this society as a non-humanoid individual, and even those that were humanoid, like the harachiu, were completely in danger in the Labs. So it fell on the shoulders of people that lived in the labs to take care of these individuals, as one would their children, until they could choose for themselves. Millicent was like that, for Morgan. They were quite happy to have received the chance to be able to care for her! They were also glad that she seemed to have been well taken care of before coming under Morgan's tutelage, for certain. Now, Morgan hoped to have a nice day of learning about one another out here at the mansion.

Millicent already had her arms crossed over her body, as she rode in Morgan's breast pocket. She was so small, and Morgan distinctively remembered thinking of her as a Thumbelina, or Tom Thumb, and that made Morgan chuckle even now. Millicent looked up at their face, squinting her bright eyes at Morgan and frowning in protest. Morgan shook their head. "What is it, Millicent?" They asked, verbally in common and using LSL. They hoped to teach her to communicate over time, by continuing to use this around them like one would a human child. They did the same thing with the tat-lungs that were now part of their family. It was important that everyone learn to communicate at least using LSL; so that they could all communicate their own wishes. It would perhaps be even more important for Millicent, being as small as she was. She'd have to find other ways to protect herself.

Morgan had brought with them, during the day today, a nice picnic basket, hoping that they would be able to have a picnic in the yard, if nothing else. The inside of the mansion was kind of scary this month, Morgan had to admit. Morgan didn't want Millicent to possibly get hurt or anything, so it was picnic in the yard day. However, Morgan didn't need to go into the building today, not really. They did plan to do that, maybe with Nico later on in the month, but for now they wanted to have a picnic, and a picnic they shall have as far as they were concerned. Their curiosity was indeed about the outside of the building, anyway. Morgan was able to get the gate open quite easily, of course because the mansion grounds were particularly well-cared-for looking this month during the year. It was almost disturbing, in Morgan's eyes, actually.

Morgan was just mentally avoiding the fact that this time of year in the mansion seemed to be at least somewhat Labs Related. What did that mean, anyway? The implications made Morgan's head spin. So far, each month was themed to celebrate some dumb mythological deity or something. However, this month... This month didn't really align with chaos, and not really with order; not with harvest of course, or any of those other weird deities. So what was it? The Labs was something else entirely, and shouldn't have anything to do with mythology. It made Morgan uncomfortable to even consider the entire thing. The human pushed it from their mind as they opened the gate, went into the inner grounds, and then closed it behind them carefully. Millicent tried to pretend like she wasn't interested in the world around her, but she really was curious about this new change of scenery.

Morgan's first instinct was always to teach, and of course try to teach those with them about the area. However, they didn't really know much about this to give a completely positive enforcement on the area, so they stayed quiet, and instead found them a nice hillock to sit on where they could do a bit of a picnic. Morgan had once taken a grill out here and grilled some bratwursts with the beloved Nico, but today they didn't want to take a chance that Millicent could stubbornly hurt herself on the heat. Nico was pretty clever, and of course Millicent was more clever than that; and that was where the problem laid. She might be too interested in seeing about the grill, and might actually hurt herself trying to figure it out. She just didn't mind Morgan, which was understandable, but it made situations like that more dangerous than Morgan wanted to accidentally deal with.

Morgan may be really bad about making some rather unorthodox decisions and sometimes doing things with too much or too little forethought (depends on the day, they thought) however, they were not going to put those under their care in danger, no kind of danger if they could help it. Especially not while they were as young as Millicent is, they thought. Millicent was so small, her little wings bigger than her body lengthwise, and Morgan couldn't even imagine her being hurt. It would bother them a ton, so no grill it was. Instead, Morgan had brought fresh fruit to cut up for Millicent, a small dessert for her as well, and had brought thin steaks that they had just cooked that morning in order to make sandwiches out of them with some bread and butter they had brought. Well, it was garlic butter, anyway. Morgan was very sure that they would have a good lunch.

The hillock was nice, and the grass was perfectly manicured and soft. The grass here was of a completely different breed than that outside of the inner gate, it was a darker green almost bluish. Morgan had seen it before; but it wasn't the breed of grass Morgan used in their own yard, but it was certainly higher end. Morgan didn't really want to overthink things, but it was beginning to feel a bit like everything meant something, with the mansion. Who even knew what kind of horrible things happened in this place really? Morgan tried not to think too much into it as they unfolded a thin blanket and placed it against the grass, and then sat down the picnic basket so that they could start getting everything together. The harachiu was too busy staring at the... Well, everything, in even strokes. Millicent was obviously very curious and very confused at what they were doing.

"We are going to have a picnic." Morgan said and signed, as they began to put everything together. "That is where we have a meal outdoors. I figure it will be good for your constitution, youngun." Morgan completed, as they finally got everything all sat in face. They sat down, and then gently spread out everything on the blanket. Hopefully, they wouldn't be too in danger out here on the first hillock, of course. That was what Morgan was really worried about, was them being in danger. However, they were already pretty hungry, so they hoped to be able to at least have a bit of a bite to eat before anything too scary happened. Morgan gently put their hand out, and already Millicent was climbing out of their breast pocket and down into their palm of her own accord. It would seem that she was also hungry!

Well, that was very good, Morgan decided. The youngster being hungry would make for a simple meal time, hopefully. Morgan had felt recently like they had quite the bad luck, but perhaps if they were lucky they'd get a little bit of grub into them before something bad happened. Actually, Morgan was hoping that the mansion would take pity on Millicent and not send anything too dangerous their way, but who even knew what was to come? Morgan shuddered, just thinking of it. What if Morgan was putting her in danger, just bringing Millicent here? She was so small, and she would never be able to truly protect herself like a typical humanoid would be able to do thanks to her size. Morgan caught theirself frowning, and Millicent staring up at Morgan's face perhaps trying to figure out why they were being so sour. "Sorry." Morgan said, plastering a grin on their face.

Morgan did not want to frighten the youngster, of course, that would be a terrible idea. However, they always had a hard time controlling their emotions when there weren't other folks around. Around their family, it was hard not to be a transparent book. However, they knew that they needed to be confident and strong for Millicent so that she didn't grow up being anxious. That would be the worst idea, Morgan was sure, since Millicent was so small that a bit of confidence would actually help her out quite a bit. Morgan got everything together and then began getting Millicent's food chopped up for her. They needed to be in super small pieces, but of course Morgan also wanted to give her the most varied diet possible. She seemed to prefer fruit; Morgan had no idea if harachiu could tolerate meat or not but she didn't seem to mind at all.

That was a big issue; Morgan needed to do more research to properly manage Millicent's needs while she was non-communicative. Hopefully that wouldn't last for very long, with any luck, the pair would work on her verbage soon. However, Morgan was not too sure why she hadn't at least tried to speak so far. She hadn't tried to be communicative at all thus far, and Morgan was having to do a heck of a lot of guesswork about her needs. So far, it was touch and go, but that couldn't be that way forever. Morgan got the fruits cubed up into tiny bits for her in a huge variety of choices. They helped her get onto the plate so that she could get at the food, and only then did Morgan worry about their own food. Morgan began to work on the sandwiches for theirself, two of them, but each one with only one piece of bread.

The mansion grounds around them made Morgan nervous enough for once to be on their complete guard. It wasn't common for them to be this way; not since the swallowing of the chaos node. However, the presence of a much smaller and weaker being made Morgan pause. Of course, with Nico, Morgan didn't quite completely trust him by himself but he was strong enough to make up for the fact that he was much smaller and younger than Morgan. That and their close bond and Nico's absolutely ridiculously strong loyalty and willingness to do everything Morgan said exactly when they said it made Nico a huge boon. But Millicent was of course different. It wasn't that Morgan was wishing that sentient beings were more like dogs of course, it was more like Morgan wished that Millicent was at that point where she was more knowledgeable and more willing to work with Morgan. Morgan was, after all, the older sibling.

That was probably the long and short of it. Morgan was the older sibling, to everyone in their household now. Practically Morgan had to realize that they were a sort of head of the family regardless of their own personal inclination to not be much of a leader. Just thinking of it made Morgan's head hurt a bit. Everyone's older sibling, and they were protective of everyone else. That was what it was; well, and perhaps the fact that the mansion was quite a bit lab-like. Yeah, it was absolutely terrifying in all honesty. The clipped grass was soft, but it was soft in a sinister manner. All of the perfectly groomed gardens that seemed to crawl out of the corner of Morgan's eyes made them feel more than a little anxious. That was why they had chosen an area for their picnic that was indeed high enough to see everything before it got to them.
