One after one, firework after another began to give a promising sizzle to join the first. "Ookay -" A waver caught in her voice and Foggy's tail ceased, both giving a jolt at the uncomfortably close pop and high-pitched scream of a firework taking off. "Lay down, lay down!" the satyr blurted, folding herself over the houluh as their time ran short. Not long after the first went off, it's marginally later companions began to make their own noises in indication they were about to pop. ( Now Foggy had gotten the inking something may be wrong.) Some let out the same pitched wail as the first while others began to spit and whistle, their cacophony filling the room. "Settl'dn, settl' - s'okay, girlie," she muttered some variation of on repeat, grateful it was Foggy she was hunched over. Not that she wanted to be in a potentially distressed dog's face, but this one was more trustworthy than most. June|18 accept loud noises|4

Foggy struggled as the din grew, less distressed and more worried about seeing what was going on past her owner's bulk. It was hard to believe her owner's assurances to settle down, but Foggy couldn't help but try her best to obey the directions given. Still, she settled down and gave a long whine, giving a long wet lick to the easily accessible face there with her. The satyr sputtered and wiped her face with an arm - and well, at least it wasn't a bite, and it meant Foggy didn't seem too bad off. Leth even snuck a glance up when the room grew a little quieter, half a thought that the fireworks had fizzled out. Nope. It was just as if the room had been holding it's breath just for a moment before chaos lit. A golden streamer of sparkles screamed over her head, twin tails of glitter twining around themselves as the plume of fire raced across the room and ricocheted off the far wall. Leth ducked and reminded Foggy to stay calm (at least one of them had to) as the entirety of the room lit up. All around their hunkered forms the fireworks screeched and twirled, flashes of light leaking beneath her protective arms flung over them both. It might've been a spectacular show, if she felt like she could look up or unplug her ears, let alone give up being a protection for the houluh. This really wasn't good. Execution via fireworks in a room wasn't exactly what she'd had planned for the day. The room quieted and the last few peals of light died out, the air leaden with heavy smoke and the smell of burning sulphur. Huh. Lethalia looked dazed as she did get that chance to look up, seeing only smouldering pellets of material shotgunned over the floor and burning into it. Hell, the houluh looked less worried than she did. Foggy lv|22 ly|44 June|20 accept loud noises|5

They stood and were met with another flick- fsh- hiss- as that floating match reappeared, and miraculously found another fuse to light. Leth swore. "S'gonna keep goin', long as we're in here t'set it off," she realized, her voice weary enough to cause a whine in Foggy. "C'mon Foggy, we gotta' get a move on," Leth beckoned. Spare thought was given to the fact that neither of them had been kissed by fire, but a room full of fireworks was generally something better avoided no matter their previous luck. Either it was stupidly good luck or the mansion intentionally not tying to hit them, but she wasn't willing to leave it up to the same chance again. Front door wasn't an option - disappeared like it typically does, thanks mansion - but it usually had some other way out. The pair hurried past burning fuses for what little light they provided, looking for more distinguishing features to the room other than it's impressive stockpile of gunpowder. Sizzling and hissing at their heels was incentive enough to get a move on. The one upside was that with every additional voice adding to the din, it meant another flicker of light to navigate with? That, and Foggy didn't seem like she'd have much issue with loud noises any longer, the way she twitched a wary ear at what she knew was coming. She wasn't scared of it, which was perfect! (It was an awfully hopeful way of looking at it.) Task with Foggy done, now there was hope they could be done with the fireworks she'd mistakenly thought she wanted. It caught differently than the rest of the room - a veil of beads along one of the walls! It's merry depiction of a beating sun courting a blushing moon swayed with the promise of escape. Lethalia had to doubt it's protection from fireworks, but this was the one chance they were presented with! June|22 accept loud noises|7

Lethalia couldn't help but pause just to look over her shoulder from where they came, wondering at what point the mansion's illusions faded behind her tail. They hadn't dissipated yet; the glow of many short fuses stared back at her. From this angle she could see the heads of all of the fireworks, mere jagged shadows with more potential than they gave away. "Yeah, y'right, c'mon," she agreed when the dog whined and nudged her hand at the pause. Where would she be if she didn't have her pets to keep her in the present? Head more in the clouds than normal, that was for sure. Lethalia gave up her gawking at the spectacle the mansion made for them, dividing the bead curtain and passing through before the exit disappeared before their very eyes. She wasn't a very big fan of the tricks this place liked to use on the regular - fading doors got old fast. June|23 accept loud noises|8 end

Though this newest room was nearly as dark as the last, Lethalia let herself breathe a sigh of relief when this room didn't crackle and pop quite so promisingly as the last one. Even still, some of the noise escaped through the veil, faraway screams of the fireworks and illumination past the hanging beads. They both skittered aside as an additional banger had to tail them out, whizzing past them to explode in an eye-searing blue when it breached the new space. Once the ringing in her ears dissipated, she was pleased only to find the song of crickets rather than the crackle of faraway fuses being relit. If ever there was a door that needed to dissapear, she would welcome fewer 'guest' fireworks making their way to the adjacent room. Well, it was a lot more pleasant than the last room, and that was really all she could ask for. June|24

Like that 'seaside' canyon last month, they were still indoors for certain. Her hooves still rested on normal expensive looking floorboards, but grass sprouted between the boards in uneven springs like nature trying to take the house back. Leth didn't suppose it would be very successful in wake of the mansion's power, but she could commend the wilds for trying to encroach. Any attempt was commendable, kind of like how she kept coming back here for some odd reason. The emptiness of the room had been such a relief, she gave a start when a light flickered nearby her face and swatted the offending ember away. Sure felt pretty solid for an ember. Her eyes were still recovering from all the bright spots the fireworks burned into them. Foggy yipped at her side and the satyr looked over in time to see her jaws snap shut on a large firefly. A power struggle right off the bat about it wasn't great, but generally she wouldn't want her critters eating insects big as a fist. Especially dubiously glowing ones like a firefly; she'd a worry their glow could be problematic to the houluh, but she'd already gone and gotten herself well acquainted with it. That cyan glow already coating the inside of Foggy's mouth, little trouble maker. They'd deal with that part later. For the time being Lethalia managed to flick the rest of the bug's remains out of the dog's mouth, wiping glowing dog spittle off on her pants. "Good drop!" she praised, even though it really wasn't, and passed Foggy a hastily grabbed treat. It should help get the concept taking seed, though the flying glowing snack was a little more interesting than the treats. Too late this time, the exchange was made and her half-chewed bug was gone. Before they went on, Leth figured they could practice on this particular manner. It wasn't ideal in the dark when not even her critter could see, but they wouldn't always be hunting out in ideal conditions either. The practice wouldn't do them any harm, in the mottled darkness with an ever-annoying firefly to become a distraction. Because the room was a bit staged to look like outside, Leth just bent over to find a sizeable stick on the ground. There had to be sticks - what was outdoors to a houluh without sticks to chase, second only to new smells? "Foggy-girl! Fetch!" she gatehred the pup's attention and crowed as she threw it, getting her attention away from the fireflies handily. She went flying after the stick, and would have no matter what words her owner had been cawing. Also wholly expectedly - she did not want to hand her new toy over when she loped back with it. Her owner took away the last one anyway, this one wouldn't be wrestled from her so easily! June|27 drop|3 fetch|1

"Foggy, drop it," Lethalia tried asking nicely at first, testing to see if maybe the pup picked up the word fast. Nope. She chewed on the stick a little more, lunging away as her owner looked like she was getting closer. Fine then - they could struggle a little until she got the idea. "Aight - siddown, stay," she followed up with, walking up to the houluh even as she wouldn't look her owner in the eye. She'd sit, but she didn't want to give up her stick! (Even if it was her owner who goaded her into playing with it in the first place. Apparently that didn't mean she got to take them back after.) Instead of trying another wrestling match to get her stick back, Leth held a treat in front of Foggy's nose. "Is this'un better, y'little shit?" she prompted as the pup's nose twitched with interest. Still, was it a better deal? June|28 drop|4 fetch|2

"Drop it, then," she said, grabbing and wiggling the stick. Foggy whined and refused to relinquish her hold on the prize, her head following the stick as her owner pulled at it. So much for not wanting to struggle for it, this time. "Sorry, no choice. Drop it," Leth repeated, twisting the stick out of the houluh's grip. Foggy lunged for it, cringing back when she was told off for it. Once she'd sat for a moment, even if it wasn't relaxed, Leth praised her for dropping it with a slight click of her tongue, handing the treat her the treat instead of her newly beloved stick. It was good practice - there were going to be days Leth was asking her to hand over things that she would want to hang onto a lot more than this stick. "Least 'ya a g'girl 'bout it," she commented, to a faintly wagging tail. June|29 drop|5 fetch|3

Of course, the pup ran back through the firefly field the moment her stick was thrown again. It wasn't the hardest thing to teach any canine with enough prey drive and willingness to please, to run after something their owner threw. Come to think of it, it was fun teaching the dogs when so many things came so naturally to them. It was a nice change from the struggle with monsters. Because she always would, Foggy came back but her eyes were big and sad, if not contemplative this time when Leth reached for her stick. Foggy really would rather have the stick, those were fun toys that she had to go out and find on her own! Nevermind the satyr found this one. Still, it felt like too special of a toy to let go of so easily. She might not have been the brightest dog, but Foggy was catching on - hell, she almost managed to look crestfallen. This was going to happen anyway, wasn't it? Whether she wanted to drop it or not, she was going to have to. Foggy lv|24 ly|48 June|30 drop|6 fetch|4

No more thrilled at the concept than earlier, the stick was dropped with little fuss when her owner asked this time around. "Thanks, Foggy." Hey, nobody said the houluh needed to be an enthusiastic participant as long as the houluh was playing along. Foggy seemed to tolerate their training sessions decently enough - it hadn't ever occurred to her to 'opt out' of them like Gold did, so she didn't decide she was bored nearly as often. That was proving to be useful. Besides - she seemed engaged enough with their budding game of fetch that she could forget the 'pain' of letting go of her treasure in fairly short order. Nothing like making Foggy forget all about handing her treasure in the time it took to throw the stick again. "Fetch, Foggy!" she hollered, even if the dog would run after her stick no matter hell or high water. June|31 drop|7 fetch|5
