Slowly but surely, the light falling on the plant seemed to get stronger and stronger, until it was almost a haze around the plant. After a few seconds, Fiera couldn’t even see it anymore, as it was trapped in a faintly glowing ball of moonlight. Then, Lunara seemed to lose control of it, stumbling back onto all four paws and shaking her head. Almost immediately, the hazy light flickered out and disappated. Fiera looked at the plant carefully- it was no different from before. But what a fantastic effort she had made! Fiera cheered wildly. “Amazing, Lunara! Fantastic Moonlight!” She said before popping open the cooler and getting a mochi. “We can keep working on getting it just right. Here, you’ve earned this.” She said, tossing the yumenokei one of the little balls of ice cream. If Lunara seemed disappointed before, she certainly wasn’t now, and fell upon the treat with vigor.

When she finished eating, Fiera encouraged her to get back up again. “Come on Lunara, one more time!” She said, before holding out the leaf again. Lunara sniffed it, getting an idea of what it was like. Then, Fiera pointed at the plant again. “Moonlight, Lunara!” She said. Lunara gave the leaf one last glance, and then sat up again. She seemed to focus harder this time, holding even more still than before. The effect was quicker as a result too, with the milky light returning in full force. It was a ball this time, floating in front of Lunara before it flew forward, hitting the plant. It shone even brighter this time, and Fiera had to close her eyes against it. Unfortunately, it soon faded- though not as quickly as before. Instead it pulsed away in stages, slowly falling back down to the natural levels of the light around them.

When the light faded, Fiera removed the hand blocking her eyes and approached the plant, still trying to get used to the darkness around her that was so much more intense now that her eyes had adjusted to the light. When she was finally able to see the plant though, it looked... worse. Not terrible mind you, but the plant's leaves had definitely drooped some, making the whole thing look... well, sad. It had worked! Not entirely, but Lunara had done what she asked. "Fantastic job, Lunara! Excellent Moonlight!" She said, and the yumenokei puffed out her chest with pride. Fiera was quick to toss her another mochi after opening the cooler, and Lunara didn't hesitate to eat it up. She was really getting the hang of this! Fiera figured that it wouldn't take much more to send this plant to the dumpster, and to figure this move out in its entirety.

Fiera knew that they were getting close. She doubted that Lunara would need many more repetitions of this- they had already practically gotten it down pat. Once she was done with the mochi, Fiera decided to give it one last go. “Ok Lunara…” She said, pointing at the plant. The yumenokei hopped over, already knowing what she was going to say. “Moonlight!” Lunara sat up, her ears and tendrils rippling with focus, and an airy, hazy ball of light appeared in front of her. It was… really pretty, Fiera thought. REALLY pretty. Without even realizing, the humanish took a few stumbling steps toward it, wanting to see it up close. Then she shook her head and blinked heavily as she figured out what she was doing. Wow. This move sure was potent. She didn’t want to think about what would have happened if she put her hand in the glow.

Before her mind could go to too many dark places however, Fiera watched as Lunara released the ball of light, letting it float upwards and above the plant. It looked almost like tendrils of light were coming off of it- or perhaps reaching up? From the plant below, as if it was trapped in several, strong beams of light leading to the miniature moon above, as if its health was being abducted. Before her very eyes, Fiera watched as the ball of moonlight grew stronger, and the plant grew weaker. The leaves shrivelled and became discolored, and the whole plant slumped over all at once. When it finally looked as if the ball of moonlight could take no more, it faded away, leaving Lunara panting with effort but successful. Fiera immedaitely fell upon her to give her praise. It was a fantastically done move- albeit somewhat horrifying to think about for too long.

Fiera’s next move was… interesting to say the least. She knew that yumenokei had a sort of… magical touch to them. They weren’t quite the same as other regular lab born creatures. They were more heavily connected to the heavens and their environment, and could do some odd tricks as a result. She had even heard of some learning weak magic. They could only learn the smaller, less impressive spells, but it was still amazing that a pet could pick up any of that stuff at all, without the need for a spellbook or node. Fiera personally attributed it to their impressive intelligence, which was much greater than other pets. Lunara seemed to be a model example of that. Sometimes Fiera was sure that she was only obeying her orders out of a sense of amusement as opposed to loyalty. As long as she didn’t cause her owner too much trouble though, Fiera didn’t really mind.

Fiera had pored over the list of known spells in the labs, digging through eclectic and obscure sources, looking for one that Lunara might have an easy time learning. There were some interesting ones, but none that really looked like something that Lunara could learn, until she saw the page for fire spells. She found one that was… well, a fire aligned spell, of course, but was also right in Lunara’s wheelhouse. It was called “Will O’ Wisp” and involved summoning floating balls of fire to distract and entrance the enemy. It was perfect. Lunara already knew how to summon balls of light, how different could balls of flame possibly be? Not to mention she already knew ‘Moonlight’, which involved summoning a ball of light that was so pretty that her opponents wouldn’t realize it was sappinng their strength. In comparison to that, Will O’ Wisp would be a piece of cake!

For this, Fiera knew that it would be another case of getting Lunara to mimic her or an object and relying on her instincts for the rest. It wasn’t her favorite method of teaching, but for something so beyond Fiera’s abilities to imitate, it was the best she could do. At least this time she had brought… a test subject. She didn’t want to subject any living creatures to ‘Moonlight’ due to its harmful effects, but just being distracted by a series of pretty lights? That was harmless, and having a (non-Fiera) living thing around would help test the spell to make sure it was functioning properly. So Fiera brought a gemmorn with her. It was a cute little creature, one that she had found crawling around in the depths of the mines. She figured it would be better at seeing in the dark than most, hence why she brought it. She set it in a little bucket and let Lunara play with it while Fiera got the candles ready.

A set of candles, two per candlestick, were the best that Fiera could do in terms of mimicking a will o wisp. Still, at least the gemmorn seemed ample distraction while she got them lit, with Lunara sniffing at it happily as it hissed at her. Even if it got some nips in, Lunara was ethereal- it wouldn’t hurt her. So she lifted the candles, and called to Lunara as she approached the bucket the gemmorn was in. “Ok Lunara… Wisp!” She said, setting the command word. Then, she gently moved her arms around, hopefully making it look as if the candle flames were floating around the critter in the bucket. Lunara looked at her curiously, then began rippling her ears. Soon, several bright lights started floating around both of them, suspended in midair. They were beautiful, but… not entrancing. Still, Fiera decided to give her a piece of mochi for good effort, and set the candles down.

As she retrieved it, Lunara hopped over to a candle and looked directly into the flame- not that Fiera could tell, as she was turned around. All around her, the glowing lights slowly warped, growing warmer in color and flickering like the candle flames. She was getting better at this. They all disappeared when Fiera got her attention though, showering her in praise and treats. When Fiera picked up the candle sticks, Lunara was ready. “Ok Lunara… wisp!” She said again, and this time, the lights appeared immediately, flashing to life in midair, looking just like a candle flame if yellower and paler. Fiera felt drawn to them, and immediately looked straight down to avoid getting caught in their thrall. Looking down though, she saw the gemmorn, gaping vacantly at the wisps above. As she watched, it slowly relaxed before falling over all together, snapping itself out of it. Fiera laughed and set the candles down. Yeah… that would do.

Travel by moonlight, moonlight, and will o wisp were Fiera’s three biggest goals for tonight. But now that they were out of the way, the pair of them had some free time. Maybe she could teach Lunara something else in the meantime? The gengetsu yumenokei seemed to have plenty of energy still, and Fiera still had plenty of training supplies and mochi left. Why not learn something else? That being said though, Fiera had to come up with something to teach… While what she had taught Lunara could be useful in battle, it was primarily meant for contests. Lunara was a beautiful creature, and Fiera loved to let her show that off through beautiful moves and fancy footwork. Another addition to that repetoire would be welcome, as far as she knew. “What do you think, Lunara? Ready to pick up another trick?” She asked, and the yumenokei gave her ears an enthusiastic ripple in response.

Well, what about… a dramatic entrance? Or exit move, Fiera thought. Just a massive flash of light. Yeah, that would probably work! It fit in perfectly with Lunara’s light themed capabilities as well. She lifted the lid of the cooler… yeah, she definitely had enough mochi left. They could do this. From there, Fiera went to her training bag and got out her high powered flashlight again, cranking it right up to the highest setting this time.”Ready, Lunara?” She said cheekily, holding it up under her face. “Do this! And… flash!” She said, switching on the flashlight and closing her eyes. It didn’t do much, admittedly- the high powered light burned right through her eyelids, making her see nothing but a blood orange glow. After a few seconds, she turned it off and opened her eyes again. Lunara seemed to find that quite entertaining, holding her ears and tendrils perked up.

Fiera pointed at her pet this time. “Ok Lunara, flash!” She said, giving the command again. Lunara stopped a moment… and her coat began to shimmer with light, mimicking the flashlight. She seemed to focus heavily, but it didn’t get very bright, and after a few moments she seemed to give up, losing focus and relaxing again before looking at Fiera, as if guilty. Still, it was a start! Fiera was happy that she tried at all. They could work with this. “Good job Lunara, good flash!” She said, and opened the cooler. Lunara was on her in a second, pushing up under her elbow, demanding treats. Fiera patted her reassuringly and offered a nice fresh mochi to her inquisitive snout. It was gone in an instant, carried away to where Lunara could safely eat it as Fiera closed the cooler again. Once she was done, Fiera got out the flashlight to try again.

Once more, Fiera demonstrated, holding the flashlight under her own chin and illuminating her own face with a light she was sure would be blinding if she dared to open her eyes while the flashlight was on. When she turned it off again, she gave Lunara the command to try again. The yumenokei hunkered down, as if tightening every ethereal muscle in her body, her ears trembling. The same shimmering light as before appeared, but this time pulsed brighter and brighter until she was practically a lantern in the dark. As before though, it flickered out and Lunara stumbled as if it took her effort to get there. Still, practice made perfect and Fiera praised her just as much as before, making it clear that she was on the right track with her performance. Lunara was more than happy to accept the treats, and seemed eager to try again once she finished.

She danced around Fiera’s feet this time, and the humanish wondered if she even needed the flashlight demonstration this time. She wouldn’t always have a flashlight on hand, after all. To test this theory, Fiera gently tossed the light onto her backpack again, ready to retrieve it later if needed. Then, she turned to Lunara and put her hands on her hips. “Ok Lunara, flash!” She said The yumenokei seemed more ready for it than ever before this time, and the shimmering started up right away. Fiera went to close her eyes as it got brighter, but it increased in luminosity faster than before, letting out a bright flash of light that illuminated the whole clearing. When it cleared, Fiera couldn’t tell, as she was left seeing stars by the bright light. She could hear Lunara dancing in circles around her though as she tried to rub her eyelids better. “Good job, Lunara!” She said chuckling as her sight slowly returned. “But ah, perhaps we should call it a night before I go blind, eh?”
